I actually play on slow anyway. The general strategy is to secure a tech lead and then use it to win. I secure a tech lead by saving money everywhere that I can plough into research. I like to be cautious, and only fight one civ at once, and then only when I'm certain I will win.
Ok so can someone tell me where to draw the line beteween being "militaristic" and having a small military? I mean eithway it'll cause someone or everyone to not like you.
I always thought that the militaristic tag on the report screen was what they thought of you. However, I played a game will only Good Civs, I played Terran and made them good early, and never built a single warship. I did everything, trade, tribu

*sorry was supposed to be a quick question, it got long, ignore the second part if you like* Newbo question, but one that bugs the hell out of me every game. Sometimes on a planet screen I can merrily repeatedly click 'build' and the same building will be laid down. The game will helpfully select the next tile and keep the same building selected so I can lay down about 10 of the same building in about a 2 seconds. Sometimes it decides to de-select the building after ev
Cool thread. One thing I HATE so far... is that JUST because I'm playing with an Evil race... it seems to me that the other AIs (doesn't matter what race they are) will hate me NO matter what I DO!! And this really, really, really pisses me off.
It makes perfect sense to me. Evil races eat people and use slave labour. Even if you act nice on the diplomatic front you still cannot be tolerated. Its a

Again out of my league here, but how can Photons not have mass. As I understand it the total sum of energy and matter in the universe is fixed although the universe can vary the proportion of each as Einstein proved with E=MC2. Energy is Mass in another form. So if Photons (the shiney things that let me see where I'm going) are energy they by default have a mass, albeit a tiny tiny one. I think i read somewhere once that assuming E=MC2 holds then every second the earth is hit by 3Kg of sunlight.

Is there anyone that knows just how much alien civs take in to account when deciding how much they like you? For example if you vote in the favour or against them in the UP votes do they take that into account? What about if you cut corners through their space, does that annoy them? And what about your choice of who to fight or align yourself with. If they are warm with X race and then I invade X race do they suddenly take a dim view of me?

Anyhow, back to the whole FTL debate. Naturally we are all way out of our depth on this one. But I did reading a really interesting article in New Scientist recent about how the fundamental laws of physics don't work (on a math level) unless you start adding extra dimensions. The article was suggesting that there may be another time dimension and possible several other space dimensions. It was suggested that what we perceive as our universe. i.e. 3 space dimensions and 1 time dimension

Does it matter about the metaverse? I don't use it myself and do edit the XML where ever I fancy. I'm having great fun creating powerful custom races then playing as a standard race. like the 'Membari' a very power, Saintly race, but extremely warlike, they are on a mission to purge the galaxy of all evil, or indeed anything mildly evil. Those feckers like to try and wipe out everything in the name of goodness. Crusading nutters. I have another evil race based on a na

Not answering your question but as a side note, if your up against 4 empires spamming you you really need to bite the bullet and put a counter espionage on every planet effected. you loose a tile on each but better loose a tile of your choice then theirs.

If I play a preset game such as battle of the gods etc. I am free to change my government type from Imperial to whatever I please. However, I seem to have no option to select my ethical alignment or indeed to access the special techs on offer to any of the 3 paths. Can this be done?

On my last game on crippling the Torians were on the verge of getting overrun by the Dregni. They WERE going to loose, so I thought there is no harm in giving them advanced technology to make life more painful for the Drengi and weaken them somewhat. So I offer them a whole load of advanced weapon and defensive techs gear, also a load of economy stuff like star democracy, I also offer them economy treaty to pay for these new ships they could build themselves. The value of what I was giv

Bravery would give you a 25% bonus to battles on your planets. It would cost you more then double that to get the same bonus on all battles. So if your playing games where you don't do much attacking, perhaps preferring to flip planets with influence, but you do get attacked then this is a very cheap way to get a big bonus while defending. If I were playing a defensive game with a good/neutral race in a hostile galaxy I would want this.

My tech tree approach has always been to get mainly in this order. Stellar Cartography Translators Planetary improvments Diplomacy 1 The +15 Moral tech Any advanced colonisation needed Basic weapons Then all the rest of the diplomacy techs to Total Majesty The reason being if I'm colonising as hard as I can I can't afford to upgrade everything early on, and I can't afford a military. This leaves me with a large number of planets but very we

Ok, trading with another Civ. You can trade star systems, but normally only low population planets far away from their sphere of influence. You can trade techs and trade goods, and they seem weird about how they value stuff, but hey, I get the gist here. But! There are two other factors straight money and IP Points. I can not figure what is going on with IP Points. The AI seem adamant not to give away even the smallest amount for the highest price. Likewise If you offer them yo

Can I buy one copy of Dark Avatar and not only play it on my desktop machine, but also on my laptop while I'm travelling? So one user, simply two machines. And if so: I got the message that the copy did not match the machine ID when I attempted this on my laptop, so if this is OK, how do I bypass this stage?
