I just have to wonder... The release notes of the beta, as well as several dev posts on that matter clearly stated that there would be no Terror Stars in this version yet. Why does everybody still try to build them?
Maybe......Just Maybe......Because they did not read those notes. We cant all pay slavic attention to these details.

The ethical system in GC is an abstraction that does not chime with reality but is a necessary simplification. Everyone always thinks of themselves as Good, and their enemies as Evil. Iran thinks the US is Evil and vice versa. Criminals think the police are evil and vice versa. But you could hardly have an ethics screen that listed good, good and good. Yet given the way the game works you could not have it any other way. Furthermore context is key in all historical analysis. <br/

I've started my first meta game, a large maso game that is taking quite a while, I keep going back to earlier saves and swapping the the machine I'm playing on as I move around. Will the game be eligible for upload after all this mucking around?

I love the pirate event if it occurs early enough. Just bundle all your ships up and keep them out the way, then design Transpors with maxed speed and good sensors and you can take out a civ by just letting the pirates do the hard work.
RANDOM side question: how do you get the neat icons at the bottom of your posts?
Do the metaverse and get good scores I believe.

Actually, despite saying DL on the main screen my race appears to have its super ability. So I am in DA, its just old graphics on the first screen, so ignore me.

I wanted to give this metaverse lark a try. But If i open DA and choose a metaverse game it only gives me the option for a DL game. How can I switch?

Last night I took what I learned from some intensive forum reading to a new game, I tried Maso for the first time, large abundant all, in TA. I absolutely massacred the AI. It was in fact pretty obviously over in my favour quite early. So either I have got much better from what I've been reading, or TA is a hell of a lot easier. I hope its the former. However, this new play style involves knowing the technicalities better, and I'm hazy on a few things i would like to get figured before
If you haven't been playing this game for a very long time and come to one of these threads it is easy to be misled. When I talk about a map size being easier or a tech speed being easier, I'm discussing incremental differences that only become apparent after playing a lot.
I see what your saying, but I'm sure changing my strategy from colony rush to invasion rush as you describe on a large map with very slow tech wil

Give a minor race a bunch of planets. Sometimes this is the kick start needed to get them starting to act more like a major race and begin their expansion. It not impossible to enhance a minor to the point where they start conquering major races.
dantubb, that focused research isn't coming from your labs, it's coming from your factories. If you save your game (so you can reload), and destroy your labs, you should see the same research numbers.
So the all X approach is to literally build only factories and focus some planets to research? That actually works?

A more suitable example then our modern world might be (to make it easy by citing something that was in a film recently) when the Greek states banded togther to resist the Persians in 490BC Sparta and Athens executed*1 Perisan ambassadors sent to demand earth and water from them, and in doing so declared war. The Persians were far more powerful, but the Greek states had to commit to fight an impossible fight now or an utterly impossible one years later (or become slaves). Back
Personally I don't always use an "all x" approach because I like variety and inventing new challenges for myself. That being said, even when I build a mix of buildings my sliders are almost always x/x/0 or 0/0/x... its just when I use a mix of buildings I "turn off" a lot of the tiles in my empire at any one time. I do indeed play this way as a function of the way the CURRENT economy works.
I'm not sure I follow h

Its a new game not just a patch. And besides you can't carry on games after a patch anyway. So a definite no. Nor, would I imagine a metaverse will be available for beat anyway, I could be wrong though.

Sometimes if you have an important couple of planets close to the corner of a sector you can get some extreme stacking. Each sector can have 4 starbases, so if a few planets are in a corner you can put them within the sphere of 16 (4 in each sector near the corner) fully upgraded econ starbases. This results in a huge output increase. Research in the thousands or planets that can churn out battleships in a couple of turns. Your pay for this output though, so make sure your ec
3. Why do the high-ranking players play gigantic suicidal abundant everything with fast tech? Aren't scores normalized? Do you get higher scores for playing the (easier) bigger maps?
Big maps are easier? I always found on small maps it was very easy to take out a civ really early and then you start the game essentially with two homeworlds against everyone else's one. Bigger maps with
1) About 400+ turns in, I start seeing problems with my turn button. A turn will start processing, then it stops (about half-way thru I'd say), and the turn button doesn't come back. I can still do things in-game (i.e., open planet views, domestic stats, etc.) but to progress any further I have to keep shutting down the game, and reloading recent saves. Am I "over-working" the game with my mods? Or is there something else wrong?

The agony that will be experienced of seeing the beta and not being able to download it because I won't have received my email with the key yet.
Oh dear......... I had (naively) assumed that I would just be able to log into stardock and download the beta to try as if it where a demo. Evidently I need to be on a list somewhere to get an email with a key.
The The highest you can get including a mega event, assuming you don't find yourself with a Dread Lord's homeworld to invade, is theoretically PQ 54 [(Base 34) + (60% PQ Mega Event Bonus) = 54].
No, because mega events stack, and can happen more then once. Like I described I saw Kora double twice in one of my games to get it up to 41. There was no cheating going on. So if the planet was a 20+ to begin with and it doubled twice yo
Now if i am not mistaken then the unusable tiles are still actually part of the planets surface, still sitting there with the sun shining down and yet nothing can be built there?? Now basically the only thing preventing building there is economic viability which translates to developers being too lazy to develop the land or sea - and that is the basis of planet quality!
Well I think more relevant considerations are game balance, and sat
