I don't know how the stats work out in TA, but in DA you should build 2 farms and no moral buildings. The reason being that the opportunity cost of missing that extra stock exchange is not compensated by the extra population you gain with the moral building. The population level off as moral comes down anyway. This way you do maximise income, and you get a high population (which is good for score) however, you do run at a fairly low moral. No problem though, just keep an eye on electio

Simple answer is if they are more powerful and likely to crush you soon. Send them gifts, money + Techs, these help *short term*. Gift them a treaty, this will give a + on the diplomacy screen (expensive, as you could get more for this elsewhere, but less expensive than war) Trade with as many of their planets as possible, gives a ++ on the diplomacy screen. All this is to just keep them of your back as long as possible, in the end it still won't matter, you
IMO having more than 15 'decent' planets begins to ruin the game.
Your be needing the map editor that comes with the retail version then.

SD have said that they are limiting the planets in Immense at the moment while they work on memory issues. The retail version will be immenser. Good point from Crazy Karl, Nebulas would be nice. Perhaps even ones that slowed your travel down or destroyed ships etc.

While I have had no problems with the Thalans on smaller maps where I have been playing at Obsence and relatively few stars. I very much doubt they would survive on a much larger map with many more stars. I just don't see how they could expand without being gimped by the much smaller number of planets they can colonise in the first year. No matter what their advantages mid to late game, if your opponents have 100+ planets and you have 30ish you will not be able to leverage that later advantage.

Great discussion, nothing really I can add apart from my support. Ideally if space stations were alot more powerful and alot more expensive I would be happy. Even if you were limited to a single one of each type in a sector. Always seems rather odd that you would have 2 of the same site from a RP point of view. It would also be interesting to revamp influence starbases, perhaps requiring that beyond modules you channel money into them that they spend promoting your culture to

I get the sense with the Altarians that they are due a good tech tree tweak. For example they use Drath Templates. Other bits like those you mention makes it look like the Devs got 90% there then decided to release them so we could play them but still intend to finish up later. Would be very interesting if a Dev could comment.

Reminds me of a great great game Ascendancy. You could build ships with no engines, and if you ever accidentally launched them into space you would have to scrap them as you could no go anywhere or make it back to a starbase to upgrade. There was also plant build devices such as planet shields and weapons. Moduals for ships that teleported you back to the homeworld etc.

While he Op may not like this particular event, I think I have seen at least 5 or more mega events get flamed, people saying I like the others but not 'pirates' 'jagged knife' 'extra planets' 'godlike artefact'. In fact NO, know I think about it I could list all the mega events and at least one person has whined about them. What are the devs supposed to do? Chop a mega event every time someone complains? There would be none left by now. If you like the idea of mega events and can handl
if you have a fixed number of planets all doing this no-lab strategy, and I have a mix of factory, econ, lab planets...Will I not out tech you? I can see how you could overwhelm me with ships. I also see how much harder that gets the bigger the galaxy gets.
Your have a edge on research but not a huge one. I will have a massive edge on production. Plus I will need less tiles to get my output than yourself. Leaving more room for econ buildings. <b
I would just like to add as an ex scientist I do not like the fact that factorys can produce research! This also does not seem to be a necessary game mechanic. I would like research only to occur with labs.
R&D departments? Seems perfectly logical to me. After all these days top graduates go to big firms to do Research, not dedicated universities like thye might have 40 years ago.

For me it has made the Drath move from my least favourite race to my most. As the Drath you have the potential to set the relationship patterns of all other races masterfully. I can play them with say 4 opponents 2 good ethics and two evil, get them all fighting their own ethic-mate. You can screw up what should normally be good relations, and leave yourself as one of the only remaining races in the game that they will be happy trading with.
i'm not completely understanding 'all-X'. %100 nothing but factories on all planets? if so where does you research come from? do you mean 1 or 2 factories and the reset research buildings on research planets? or literally all research. I'm not grasping how you maintain your economy with all factory planets *and* a fleet of ships. I'm not grasping how you're not completely out-teched by going 'all factory' and setting a factory pla

Also, playing a massive game with 100+ planets. You finish your tech tree and want to replace 300+ research buildings with Economy building! Hellish. A simple building manager would allow you to upgrade all 'X' -> 'Y' Yes we can think of a few niggles, and it would be up to you to double check it worked out as intended, but that would be so much faster then the alternative we have now.
...but we'll be trying our best to get this Beta into your hands.
Good, Stop reading this thread and go fiddle with code or whatever game developers do. Btw, sympathy on the bug thing, here in the UK we have a mass norovirus outbreak, its claiming 100,000 a week. Glad I watched 'I am Ledgend' to prepare me for the worst. P.S Great film, not as good as the book.

My two favourite races are the Altrians and the Thlans, so I'm on the edge of my seat. That said, it is important its right, so I understand the wait is necessary. I just hope its there for the weekend. Good work SD

What your describing is almost certainly as a result of the UP vote on how many unique technologies should each race share. If you had 4 races and each shared 3 unique technologies you would get 12 in rapid succession. However, it is odd you did not remember seeing the vote. Either a new bug or you the type of person to just skim through UP votes.

Great work. If only more in the digital media business faced reality they would do themselves a huge favour, rather then standing there like King Canute trying to stop the tide coming in. Number 6 I did'nt get, nor number 7, so I wiki'd them below. I would add make a new Elite game (but this time don't release it teaming with bugs) and a new (proper) Sim City Game and most of all stop dumbing down everything! 6. I suspect you fine people may be exaggerating slightly. The thing with the creative procs is you don't tend to notice them until they do something wonderful. I often play with creative on, since I'm normally playing all factories and need every hint of extra research I can get my grubby little hands on. I also play +20% research and technologist normally too. I never gave much thought to creativity until one game with the iconians where it proc'd all over the place, loads of
