on a personal note, I would somehow like to see the shift move away from a solar system focus to a intersolar focus with the single solar system being more the equivalent of a city with surrounding tiles in civ games. that is, one, maybe two colonisable planets in a system, a bunch of stuff for mining operations, thats mostly it. think of freespace a bit, that game just "felt" awesome. to borrow more from said game, entrance into systems could be via jump points, different ones dependin
Does anyone not feel that a better tradeing and treaty interface would make this game alot more fun?Somthing similar to Galactic Civilization?
interface alone, no, not really, I'm fine with it. might be interesting to have the "i like you" % directly next to the faction name so you can see at a glance your relation to all other factions, but that would be the only issue. that said, when we're at it, it did kinda expect some stuff on diplomacy, like the much said
* culture: some consider it too weak, I'd say its maybe a bit too simplified. my problem with it is that there is essentially only one way of getting it - construct media structures - and not so many ways to boost it. research, build more hubs and population? planetary bonuses you cannot really influence so I dont count them here. also, the ways to counter culture are limited. you can build hubs yourself, you can research, you can station capships. to be sure, I do like the diversity of
I found a review at 4players - a german online mag that do generally very good reviews. they give the game 84% (which is pretty considering their averages) and mainly critise tacical combat, race similarity and multiplayer techncal stability. here is the link: [link="http://www.4players.de/4players.php/dispbericht/PC-CDROM/Test/8290/7793/0/Sins_of_a_Solar_Empire.html"]WWW Link[/link]
It's not true, you just need to discover one end of the wormhole. However, stars don't have phase lane connections to add/remove, it's done automatically and can't be changed.
dont forget that in earlier betas there were star phase lanes, so it must be technically possible. question is how deeply coded this is.
tbh my excitement for sc 2 is waning a bit. I am not too impressed from what I saw of the zerg so far. but then what do I expect, a totally different game? meh, I'll just wait and see, read some reviews and hope the story update will be good. it doesnt look bad though, just not as cool as the original. that said, blizz still have tons of money, so the undoubtely have the resources to spend as much time and care on it to deliver a polished and good product, thats for sure. probably you j
1) do you even play it at max settings? I have trouble imagining someone seriously claiming hw ships were better than those here. besides, in larger games you get thousands of ships and that limits the detail ship models can be created. 2) actually, the UI is one of the games greatest strenghs, might take a game or two to get into it and figure out how to effectively use it, but dont worry, its very effective. btw you dont have to "find" any frigate building, you just have to select the
just two things that I have not particularly seen mentioned: one: you can now research up to three techs in parallel (military, civic and fleet). this has quite an impact and should be pointed more to in the patch notes. two: is it just me or do the fleet research tool tips not adequately reflect the fleet size customization option? what I mean is that even when I have low fleet sizes and a starting fleet of 75 points, the tip still displays it as going from 100 to 250 and so o
I worried about that from the very beginning. this is duty, the tax of importing stuff. it usually varies across product cateogories, some have low or no duties, others have very high ones, its really a matter of negotiation (thats what they do at those world trade summits). in theory, the EU is a customs union, so duties should be universal across all countries, but over here its never quite as it seems. I should also add that its not some european thingy, but duties have been
ah, good to know I'm not the only one who hasnt got it yet. if any of those carriers reads this: GET TO WORK! :)
First off, congrats to the Space Pony clan for bringing it together. I am pleased that your clan is shapping up. Funny how ditching the 'Pink' in Pink Space Ponies made things easier for you guys. lolAnyway, once LordMike sets up things to his satisfaction, we will be able to have some awesome clan vs clan battles. As far as my 'lore' concerning the GE and the Pink Space Ponies goes, I found the truth to be much more inflammatory. Both clans formed from the same group, but then seperat
Hehe, the Galactic Empire was victorious against RaY....as was expected. Still, you have to admire RaY's courage for jumping right into a clan versus clan challenge so soon after their formation. In spite of their being a new clan, they were pretty good players.
yeah, it was a good game and a nice challenge, congrats RAY for the effort, especially considering the young nature of their clan. was this the first clan vs clan battle in sins?
soo ... have the european retailers slowly started to win your favour? considering the game got so many excellent reviews and apparently does quite well in retailing overseas, at least someone must be interesting in selling this game to the old world people. hope to get my boxed copy soon. god, this download system is brilliant, otherwise I would be angry as hell, waiting for my package to arrive.
wow, some nice pictures already. keep up the good work, I'll be looking forward to this.
as mentioned, tinkering over a new design takes time, which is an essential resource in any rts game. and dont forget you just dont design a single ship, you will design various ships and continue to upgrade them as new technology comes available. relic's second game after homeworld was called incredible creatures and employed something like it. you could splice genes of different animals and create your own choice of units, complete with an advisor pointing out strenghs and weaknesses
yeah, gamespot took a lot of hits in the last weeks, so its by far not my first check for reviews anymore. that said, I think the review was informative, accurate and well written, so in spite of the source, I still give it some weight. but they should REALLY start to repair their tattered image. so far I have heard of little that would suggest a true commitment to independent, neutral reviews to calm the unrests. I agree with the campaign thing though. I absolutely love games with a go
I dunno, I dont think the 1up review gave a clear description how the game works, what choices you have and how the two genres are linked. I also didnt see much justification for the score, basically everything was positive in there. but then, when gamespot lost my faith, I searched for more good online mags and had ruled 1up out, because some other reviews of games I knew were similarily short and uninformative in my opinion.
Take away shoot on sight diplomacy in games, also I understand why this may not be possible but I want buildings to be self-destructible I have run into many occasions where all planets are locked down I have only 3 left and I cant build anything useful because all of my building slots are full, In those situations I would rather have weapon jamming instead of a trade port or something of that sort that is of no use to you.
1Spartan told me to bring it, so here it is. [RaY] challenges you to a match; you can either hide under your beds or come out to meet your maker 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, or 5v5
do you have enough players for such a big challenge? sounds interesting though, if time allows, I'd love to fight you.
what about overseas, as in europe? any educated guess?
hmm, sounds similar to what I proposed (at least I think I did) a while ago. what I would like to see is an option, possibly accessible through research, that allows normal ships to power down their phase drives and reroute the power to other systems. this would make them a good deal more efficient, but if you want to jump them it takes a few minutes to power the drive down and up again, during which time you will have neither the increased stats, nor the drive. shouldnt create a stalem
I know, it's almost like they want the game to have only 1 strategy and for those of us who prefer to defend ourselves to get kicked out of the game. Turtling, Booming, and Rushing are all legitimate strategies and should all be encouraged, for a good example of a game that does that just look at Age of Empires. Their guide lists the 3 tactics and gives you examples of how to best play them. I
C:\docuements and settings\username\local settings\application data\ironclad games\sins of a solar empire\... well in that folder you have basically everything. go to the appropriate folder auto or custom replay, single or multi. if you want to insert a replay but dont have the right folder just make a dummy replay of the same type and it should create the right folder.
no, superweapons are not (the only) reason why pji are nerfed. if you just have to fortify two or three key systems with tons of defenses and a pji or two, attacking becomes effectively impossible. trust me, its not fun. While I agree that there would definitely need to be some sort of balance in this scenario, I think that stardock is intelligent enough to come up with methods of
