Science works. God doesn't. God is not needed in our universe. Religious people would say "God works. Science doesn't.". Your argument ends up being circular. IMHO, science simply a way to explore our current physical world. It cannot and should not interfere with religious beliefs. I do not believe it conflicts with religion. Hmmm ... interestingk. Then this thought I keep having this thought (from where?

possible one of the thousands of religions that have existed on earth is true You are one smart cookie, Becephalus. IMHO (in my humble opinion) they are all true, in one way or another. I respect that tremendously, especially when I think of all the agony and suffering each society went through to make advancements. Too bad we can't just take all the good discoveries from each one and combine them into something realistic and constructive, in spite of bigotry or

Everything in this universe are made of energy or make use of energy. Energy cannot be created nor destroy but it can be converted. It can represent data. Your body is just a vessel converting energies from one form to another. Several energies changes, get converted and forms the soul as they get meshed together over time containing your memories and experiences as data. When you die, this energy won't be destroy and will be simply returned to the realm where all ener

TheGreatEmperor - and company! Once again thanks for mentioning me as a possible candidate! Gratifying to say the least. I looked over the requirements etc. and came up with a pretty good idea of how things might work out if I decided to "run for it" how to make it a truly representative body of the GalCiv2 community If an cranky old geezer with a bad back, a

I am almost certain that the original poster is using sarcasm... heavily. I think he is making fun of people who take wikipedia as facts. If "original poster" referred to me as the insta-gator, I wasn't being sarcastic, although now that you mention it, I can see how it might have been taken that way, by several readers. Actually (and I have hesitated to say anything to point any fingers at anyone, so don't take this as if I am) ... I got really tired of

With everyone posting about "Starship Troopers" I'm suprised no one added "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress". Another one that I had forgotten about. I'm gonna re-read that one. It's a near classic by itself. Thanks! For galactic-level science fiction, it doesn't get better than Asimov's Foundation series. Yup. After reading it 4 times ... I agree! no one has mentioned E. E. "Doc" Smith. Hey

Here's a question ... I just finished a Metaverse game, but there was no option to post it at the end. It's always been automatic before, when I won one ... how to post a finished game to the Metaverse when it seems to have decided it wasn't a Metaverse game? I have the endgamesave.sav to re-load. (20k points I was hoping to add to our score). Thanks for any assist

I'm personally a Human and proud of it. I don't care to be controlled or made to serve anyone or anything, and I advocate behavior as the litmus test of validity for anyone, or anything, or any religion, or any society ... etc. Mythology opened my eyes to other Human's similar struggles across the globe and across time, when I took time to read some works by Joseph Campbell [http://en.wikipedia

Ah. Well, my objection stands if you or anyone else proposed collecting the information. Yes, again. Also, if you're trying to bait me, it's starting to work. I would appreciate it if you would simply not even mention my namu (name) in connection with your original specious assumption I would ever do such a thing? OK? The idea that bases attract ships would be hard to enforce on human players. Yes, but not if no-one was allowed to attack a planet (or anything in orbit around it) until the military presence (the military starbase) was eliminated first. Also, further along this line of thought ... should transports or other civvie ships like constructors be denied entry to a enemy military starbase zone of control? Should they be made to wait outside the enemy

No matter how well intentioned anyone here may be, including myself, you should not ask people for their serial #s. Never give out your serial #s either. Right! I assumed of course, and maybe I should have expressed this ... that the serial numbers and email addresses of the actual game owners, not just any possible multi-email-account/multi-GCII-website-forum-readers-account ... but actual game owners, is probably in a secure, encrypted database somewhe

Also I think that ElWhopo should also consider running seeing as he does have a forum presence and is interested in the election itself. I'll consider it, of course! I will take time to re-read about duties and responsibilities etc. and see if I think I fit the bill, and think about it. Thanks.

It might not be a popular idea, but there should be a way to track votes by user ID among registered Metaverse users. That way, in theory, everyone who votes would have a valid serial number. Actually, after thinking about it, if there were some way to tie into the actual purchase of the game (serial number or email address related to serial number), I think that would be about as secure as might be reasonably expected. Who would go out and buy an additi

Got it, no problemo. Already seeing a big jumpstart on the 'challenging' level game I'm working on thanks to your assistance. I've only done a few turns but man, I have at least twice as many colonies, and several treaties ... [clicking heels] I was hoping to report a victory, Herr Emperor, but alas, fate has thwarted me yet again ... temporarily! My next report will be Victory, or death! One thing that has been suggested is to set up some kind of secure email voting address. I'm not quite sure how these work but I have been assured that they do work. That could possibly allow the assumedly large amount of folks that merely lurk these forums to vote as well. Of course that opens the issue of determining the validity of the electorate which we already have had words about. Ummm ... I suspected from reading along here that there might be s

I once saw a screenshot of 16 of these military bases, took hundreds of constructors to build them, but with each ship costing 100bc production wise, they had like 750 attack and 140 defence per ship, which meant when they had 100 of these tiny hull fighters with 1 attack and 1 defence, they became monsters with ship assist and military rating went flying. Thats very similar to what I was trying to do early-on in a recent 'challenging' game ... but the Y

Wanted to get 2cents in for defining military starbases "zone of control" as more military-oriented. There has been a little gaming-out of what looks like a good basic idea in this thread WWW Link - After playing with this idea in my head (gaming out possible scenarios while actually playing the game), I think making some small changes (relatively small but maybe big to the programmers, I dunno) would add even more depth and ch

Wanted to get 2cents in for defining military starbases "zone of control" as more military-oriented. There has been a little gaming-out of what looks like a good basic idea in this thread WWW Link - I assume there are alot of people that play GCIIDA who, like me, have military experience combined with a flair for sci-fi, and personally I think it would be a mistake to ignore the perception some may have that military starb

Yes and thats a shame, Starbases should have a ZONE OF CONTROL and be able to fire at passing enemy ships 1 hex out, I also think they should have upgrades that can increase the firing range, esp. for missles, AI bases with long-range missles would force you to build up missle defense before incursions, though each armed missle should have an expensive cost and a (reload downtime). I would only let the military starbases have the longer-range s

would love to pick up mass effect the somewhat prequel to the game. Looks like the mass effect will be another series of novels more-or-less related to the upcoming game, kind of like Star Wars. I didn't see any mention of it being in print, though. {http://www.bioware.com/bioware_info/press_releases/2007_02_23_MassEffect_Novel/)

I had to read up on fallacies and argumentation theory to get an idea what you were getting at, ghostwes. I'm not sure yet, but I'm trying. I never said I was an expert in anything, or claimed to be completely trustworthy. Maybe Mumblefratz actually condensed my outlook into something understandable better than I can - The point I think ElWhopO is making is that this is still far better than coming into a discussion with a completely uninformed opinion.
