and another question, could someone xplain me how this metaverse thingy works? them empires and such.... Metaverse lets you track your score online. It provides a fixed, secured set of datafiles (no mods allowed), so the scores actually mean something. Simply use the 'Metaverse' button in the main menu, create a character (you can have up to three at the same time) and play. You don't have to play the whole game in one session, saving a

Elite was without doubt one of the games the revolutionised the genre of space trading / fighting sims. Or rather, invented it. Unlike most arcade space sims, it also had a Newtonian propulsion system, meaning your spaceship didn't handle like a WW-2 fighterplane (or X-Wing). Of contemporary games, I think Wing Commander Privateer did a good job to capture part of the spirit, while X, X2 and now X3 try to recreate the whole thing.

I seem to get rather slow downloads with DSL6000 as well, but only during US daytime. So basically, if you're EU based like me, try downloading in the morning, not in the evening. DA without SDCentral: There is an option to get a CD with DA on it, but that costs more compared to the download-only version.

SP2 helps with everything, along with all Windows Updates. Of course, you probably need a legit copy of Windows for that as well. Other than that, I wouldn't expect much help here if you don't have a CD key.

I see AI use econ bases a lot. In my current game, the Drath build three or four bases around their homeplanet, with another planet and several asteroids in range as well. Influence bases also get build sometimes, but not as often. What difficulty do you play on? So far, most mining bases I encountered were upgraded, and after a certain point upgraded with weapons. A more important question IMO is: Does the AI use the new 'starbase repair modules'?

Shared defenses, like in WW-2 bomber formations, that would be one argument that would work as a justification for changing the current system. Another point is as follow: In one-on-one situations, you can assume that each ship always manoeuvres so that the 'strongest' side faces the enemy. Superior numbers mean that one fleet can place its ships in a way that they exploit weak spots in the opposing ships. Since GalCiv doesn't feature an elaborate combat system with internal da

The problem in my opinion is this: - A large / huge ship with lots of weapons should be able to engage multiple targets per round. This 'feels' right and was introduced with the 1.6 combat system IIRC. - A fleet of ships should be more effective at engaging opposing forces than a single ship. This also 'feels' right. However, as of now, these two points seem somewhat exclusive. Either a ship can only target a single enemy (making fleets more effective) OR a ship is abl

My problem with the serial just got solved. Try SD-Central, "Tools" -> "Register Products" and enter you serials for GC2 and DA. I don't know why, but it seems to me that a complete reinstall via SDC somehow messes up the connection between your local games and the numbers registered on Metaverse. Also, I don't know why I didn't check that option sooner, but then again, it installed everything so I just assumed it knew the serials. Oh well... <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_D

This isn't a bug report exactly, as rather an observation of an odd behaviour of GalCiv. It may or may not point to an underlying bug in the graphics engine. I routinely monitor my GPU temperature. In idle, it is about 55°. Quite nice and cool. During gameplay, it peaks at 72°, usual level is 70°. Now, what is odd? The temperature STAYS at 70° after quitting GalCiv. It looks as if nobody told the GPU that it can stop processing. What is odder? If I start a different game (Neverwinter Ni

I have the exact same problem. So far two reinstalls (automatic via SDC, so I didn't even have to enter the serial myself) did not solve the problem. Let me know if you find a way. See this thread for my specifics, which are even weirder than it seemed at first glance.

Since I had to swap out my hard-drives, I did another complete reinstall. Still can't post to Metaverse, and so far I have received no response from support, except for the automatic reply with the ticket number.

I would rate them exactly the opposite, Thalans first, Torian second. Suprehive with the extra range and the faster social production help in early development while saving money to buy ships.
