Because I tried to make clear in my original post that if you're doing things right you shouldn't even need to support Opera, it will just happen naturally. Regardless net-wide browser stats are amazingly unreliable. If I can be assured it will be built from the ground up on standards (i.e. build for Firefox/Safari/Chrome/Opera first, hack for IE last,) designed with graceful degradation in mind, and scripting only used for progressive enhancement then I will subscribe. If you could promise that Opera was a tested browser I'd be even happier but if you do the above it shouldn't matter. The current mess of a site is the only reason I let my last subscription lapse.

Understand here, I'm not trying to say piracy is not wrong; just that it is not theft, and as such punishments should not be decided as if it was automatically equivalent. This has nothing to do with my dislike of these proposals. I have no problem with there being reasonable and workable laws against online copyright infringement. These proposals do not qualify. But I only entered this thread to try and clear up what I view as an important misunderstanding, I'd have an even harder time

I feel it will be a big mistake for me to wade into this thread, but I would like to try and clear up one misunderstanding regardless. Piracy (of the software/music/film downloading variety) is not theft. It's copyright infringement, which while still being a crime is a different one. Theft, or stealing is the act of taking something such that the previous owner is deprived of its use. And the only way Internet piracy could fall into this definition is if you consider the money

I use Opera rather than Firefox because the browser is about more than how it renders pages, though that's not to say Opera's rending engine is inferior. To get Firefox anywhere near the functionality of Opera that I use requires a small army of extensions — slowing Firefox considerably (it's still a good browser, but Opera is far better for me). The hacks I have in place are as follows: Three commands that make the scripts here think my browser is Firefox. If I can get some kind of guarantee that the next version of WinCusto will not be the horrible mess of HTML hacked to work in a few select browsers — instead relying on a stable code base with decent amount of respect paid to well documented standards and having a bare minimum of hacks to work around browser *cough*IE*cough* bugs — then we'll talk about me resubscribing; I'm not going to do so if my money will be wasted on a site that I have to write my own hacks for to have working in my browse

Regarding the occasional comments about things not working properly in Opera. If Opera is set to mask itself as Firefox (that is, send a user-agent to the server that looks like a Firefox user-agent, with no mention of Opera) most of the obvious flaws disappear. I refuse to do this personally, as it would lead to Opera making less of an impact on your server statistics. Opera for the truely great win! Thankfully Jafo it has far more useful features than simply tabbed browsing (and even that is a better implementation than any other browser I've seen when used in full MDI mode.) IE7 strikes me as far too little too late. Now it's only 2 years out of date instead of 5.

Like I say.. the difference is a *very* minor one that does not detract from the site in anyway. And firefox and mozilla (and netscape) may have different GUIs.. but they are all running the Gecko rendering engine underneath.. any differences are only due to different versions of Gecko.. and also to the reference.. There is currently a minor graphical glitch when viewing the site in Opera (www.opera.com) I get the feeling it may be more Opera's fault but since yours is the only site I've seen it on, I may be wrong (or it may even be 50/50 for fault).
