Thanks for the info guys. I find the "amazingly high relative diplomacy" rating that you see when you talk to your enemies is worthless. Super Diplomacy and the diplomacy techs in general seem to be ineffective in games above "normal" difficulty. Everyone, even my Allies want too much for what I offer. Nobody will trade straight across, for example, Barren World <> Aquatic World colonization techs, no matter how much of a diplomacy advantage I have.

First question... how do I steal techs other than taking over enemy planets? Second question... I keep getting this event where a minor race steals all of the technology of another race. The event says that this minor race wants one of my planets in exchange for that stolen technology. So I pull the diplomacy window and select one of my planets and one of his obviously stolen techs, to which he replies "HELL NO!". What's the deal here, is there some other mechanism to make this event pl

But I -have- saved these ships as templates; I've been checking the "Templates" box when I save them. Conditions: Ships and Shiptemplates folders each have 16 files corresponding to the 8 custom ships I've made. Results: Custom ships appear in new game. Conditions: Ships folder empty, Shiptemplates has 16 files in it corresponding to the 8 ships I've saved as templates. Results: Custom ships do not appear in new game. Conditions: Ships folder contains 16 ship f

Great info guys, but I'm having a problem. I emptied my ships folder at: C:\Documents and Settings\ME\My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar\ships And I verified that my custom ship templates are in: C:\Documents and Settings\ME\My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar\shiptemplates Then I fired up GC2DA, started a new game, and my custom ships don't show up. So I emptied my shiptemplates folder and put the ship files back in the ships folder. I relaunched GC2DA, start

Thanks for the info! I guess I don't really understand the difference between saving a custom ship normally and checking the "Template" box. Looks to me like pretty much every ship I've customized for a race shows up in every game even if I don't mark it as a template. Maybe I'm just saving too many as templates and I'm losing track What I'd like to have is a set of ship designs that sh

Hi guys. I'm looking to clean up my dozens of custom ship files but there are a few I really want to keep. I started looking through my Ships and Shiptemplates folders and found a lot of duplicate names and such, it's a real maze. Do you have any tips for how a guy can clean this stuff up without losing his favorites? Also, what's the purpose of these two folders, they both seem to have a random set of ships and template files in each. Thanks!

I've been working on variations of ships from the MMOG "EVE Online" which I played at one time. Here are a couple of the small sized "Frigates": Kestrel - Heavy and not well shielded, the Kestrel packs a sizable number of missile launchers. Merlin - Well shielded but only moderately armed with rail guns.

Obviously weapon strength numbers and defense numbers play a part, but is there any other ship component that aids in combat? Such as... does a higher sensor rating give you "the drop" on your enemies so your shots hit first? Do faster ships avoid more damage? Does size matter? Thanks!

Last night I assaulted the Yor home planet and found out to my surprise that it sported the orbital fleet improvement structure. His 3 battleships, 3 frigates, and defender swatted my first good-sized invasion fleet like so many flies. I guess the one-by-one defense works in its own way if you surround your planet with throw-away ships, but there's a lot to be said for massed defense and I think the AI should do it more often.

I had a similar thing happen to me and it had me scratching my head. Then I realized that my remaining opponents hadn't researched Plague Cure and had like 3 people left on every planet. Normal Diff game, but geez, that's really pretty dumb AI play.

Well I've never seen the AI save its own bacon that way, but I do see the AI's planets falling left and right because they send individual ships up to stop me. And it's a very rare occasion when I can't just break my fleet in half or save one ship out so as to essentially double my movement points and easily take out any planet's defenders in one turn. The kung-fu movie planet defense (i.e. send the combatants one at a time) is weak sauce.

I used spying substantially last night for the first time, and for the first time I actually stole some techs from my opponents. I'm not sure how I got those techs though, was it because I put spies on their research tiles or was it simply because I had multiple spies on a planet and got my infiltration up to Medium then High?

I like GC2 but I'm rather disappointed in the fleet battles. There is simply no room for creativity or "leading" your fleets and there should be. Something as simple as setting fleets to fire on certain ships first, or to run away if a specified amount of ships are lost, etc, wouldn't be difficult to build AI for and it would add a lot to combat. I'd also like to see more randomness in combat. It looks to me like fleet composition A vs fleet composition B will always result in fleet com

I've seen minor races routinely build transports but of course they never use them. I've also noticed that they often have 8 or 10 freighters and constructors filling their orbits with zero defensive ships. Seems like they could use an AI adjustment to make them a bit more difficult to defeat. As it is right now I just farm them for technology and their worlds. When the new minor race appears I gobble up that world as quickly as possible. Delicious, but it feels like cheating because they're so

I'm a new GC player and an old star trek fan. This is my first shot at a classic star trek ship of the Transport/Tug class. Here is a link to the picture from which I drew my inspiration: WWW Link And here are some shots of my attempt. It can't hold a candle to the efforts of 95% of the ships here, but it was fun to come up with something close to the original. At some point I'll try to add the big cargo can underneath...<br
