Has this, by any twist of fate, been implemented in the year and a half since this thread started? I have a couple of designs in GC2 that I'd really like to manipulate outside of the GC2 shipyard.

Not bad ideas, but I'd also like to see ships sitting off planets gathering intel also work as spies in your scenario. I'm not sure about tech trading though. As it stands, even allies won't trade a significant tech for several of yours of equal or higher value. If they actually offered techs of similar value to yours, then your idea might be ok.

Latest diplomacy aggravation: So the Korath declare war on my ally the Krynn. Both the Altarians (another ally) and I honor our pact and declare on the Korath. 30 odd turns later the Krynn get peace, next turn the Altarians. But can -I- get peace? No. Now I'm stuck fighting the strongest race solo. This is really poor behavior on the part of the "allies" and makes me wonder, yet again, why I even bother fostering close relations with other races.

Specifically what I don't like is one ship pasting 3 others of similar size because it is all guns no defense. My ships that are half defense half offense don't stand up to the all-offense setups. The AI seems to prefer this type of ship setup in my games. Perhaps doubling HP would do the trick, but I was hoping there was a mod where defense had more effect vs offense and was used by the AI more.

1. Players who play alone do not request tactical combat. Since playing alone resumes to playing against an AI, tactical combat is never really exhilarating because AI's are crappy at playing. Sorry to break your theory, but I don't play multi-player yet I would really love a tactical combat layer. Nothing too complex, but more than Firepower of Ship1 + Ship2 + Ship3 vs Defense and HP of target. The simpler the tactical combat system, the b

yeah that's helpful. I do typically keep my diplomacy techs researched fairly high (generally higher than my opponent), but I don't typically use it to start the others to warring. This does kind of stick you to early game warfare though. If you wait until mid-to-late game everyone ends up allied and nobody will war on their allies. Being able to break an alliance by paying one member off should be an option.

Hmmkay so I just quit a game where I was outclassed and being warred upon by the two largest races in the game. What frustrated me about this particular game is the lack of diplomatic options. I was allied to the Terrans, but they were allied to both the Yor and the Drengin. When I was attacked by the Yor and Drengin the Terrans did not help me, presumably because they are allied to the aggressors. Now what bugs me the most about this is that I have no way of asking them to help me out.

Odd, they were in there but it wouldn't give me a speak-to option. So I invaded and removed them. Of course now I have the Drengin and Yor both attacking me while the Terrans blow off our alliance and watch me die horribly.

Well, since they're bypassing/flying through the entire Yor empire to come attack mine which is half the size of the Yor, I'm glad they're no more potent than they are. The Drengin are even larger than the Yor and still closer to the DL but not at war with them. Something odd... I've seen news stories that a couple of races have fought and made peace with the DL, but I don't see any way to begin peace talks with them.

I've played a couple dozen games now and this is my first one where the dreads make an appearance. They are sending their ships at me by ones and twos, nothing too hard to handle right now, but I haven't been able to locate their home world. Do they have one or are they some sort of event that just goes away after a while?

I'd like to see weaponry designed to take out specific hull sizes. Weapon effectiveness would change depending on the size of the target and the size-rating of the weapon. 10% for Size +/- 3 25% for Size +/- 2 50% for Size +/- 1 100% for Same Size So if you put a Size Large Fruit Salad Shooter on a ship it would hit Large hulled ships for 100% damage but Medium and Huge for only 50%, small for 25% and tiny for 10%. This would prompt you to arm ships specifically for

If a carefully balanced economy with factories, research centers, and stock markets is outpaced by an all-factory or all-research economy, then I say that's an unintended result and thus should be fixed. I don't see a reason to prevent a one-trick economy, but it should not be more effective than one that follows a more logical course. Lol really? And by "logical" you mean cookie cutter strategy ? - in all

I'll refine my point since you missed it. "if going all-factory or all-research is more effective than carefully balancing the two types of structures then something is wrong". I'm not upset or judging you or saying the all-xxx strategy is unfairly superior. I'm just making general statement that the game should play as expected. One would expect a mixed-structure setup would be superior.

I'd like to see something between "war" and "peace" ... such as convoy raiding and starbase attacks that don't actually start a hot war. Perhaps ships and bases outside of a race's territorial boundaries could be attacked without the prereq of being at war. Of course your enemy may declare war on you, a risk you'd have to be willing to take.
