Yes I know but even so you don't get a lot as you start with a frigate factory anyway. Building a capital ship factory takes another bunch of slots and you would probably want one of those. Expanding the empire seems rreally hard as well since you just don't get that much money to build and research a decent fleet quickly. the strategy i used is based on my experience with other rts style games as that's how the tech trees are set up. You focus on bulding up to one uber unit as fast as possible, which means focusing on your chosen path and going for it hopefully quciker than the enemy. I am new at this game and so i wasn't sure what else to do. Plus you don't have that many logistics slots per planet for things like labs - 3 at most (2 usually if you include a ship buliding base).

Thanks for the replies, but what I mean is how do you use them? As I said in another thread, I like the game - I even like the idea of pirates - but I don't really know what to do. What do envoy cruisers actually do? Is there any point trying to play diplomatically with the ai when it just doesn't listen to you anyway. Every offer of peace is rejected, so is there much point? I must say I'm struggling with this game. It's easy to use the controls and the interface is simple, but trying to figure out what and how much to build is really hard. I have no idea how many ships to build or how to really expand. I build a few scouts to start and try and tech up, but everywhere seems to be filled with enemy ships. ANd yet it still doesn't explain the large oversight that is not putting this information on the packaging. That just shows contempt for retailers and customers as it is NOT illegal to sell games second hand. If you take that argument then the single mother struggling to make ends meet whouses hand me downs, maybe even from her own, older, children, instead of buying new clothes is just as 'guilty'. IT's quite simple: if you want to do business this way, make it clear at the point of sale. I am well aware that used games make no money for the manufacturers, but taking it out on the customer is a very poor way of encouraging sales and is nothing short of hostile. Do you think I want to do business with you knowing this is how you treat me for the simple crime of buying a game second hand? Get a life!

Frogboy's point was that if you bought the game 2nd hand, ie from your neighbor, dog walker, teacher, whoever, then you did not buy the game off Stardock. Are you accusing me of dealing in pirate software, I would hope for you sake you are not. It is perfectly legal to buy and sell video games in the UK. If you wish people to buy only brand nw vesions then i suggest you sell those version in shops and that you make it perfectly clear on the packaging what the terms of purchase actually are.
