Haha -- after I posted that file I read it over out of curiosity and realized the drivers were wicked old. Anyways, I updated them, and still had the problem. But I think Tertullian's on to something -- in my very un-scientific study (aka, I did this once) I closed all of my background programs except for what was necessary (I don't own virus software, incidentally). Hiya! I recently bought the game, and am having the same problem (though I know this thread is ages old). The crackling is intermittent -- it doesn't happen every time, but once it starts it's hard to make it go away short of restarting and hoping for the best.
