Schod you do realise im on yourside when it comes to the whole issue of "steamrolling". Im just trying to make having multiple fleets better encouraged so its accessible to more players of a range of skill levels. It shouldnt be exclusive. What should happen in an RTS game with proper design is to encourage multiple fleets and backdoor assaults to all skill levels. In homeworld 2 , there wasnt as much steamrolling because you could raid resources meaning a split between defensi
but i do see it steering towards that direction. So i am saying something about it now. how??? its not like you can turn the ships backwards and forwards to ahve them dodge artillery... micro could use a bit more in Sins. you're right that it shouldnt be a clickfest, but if I'm focusing down in on a battle where its 3:4, if I'm microing the 3 side I should still have a decent chance of victory against someone who is not microing the 4 side. othe
I dont think anybody wants to be a steamroller , but sadly the game design just doesnt encourage anything else. to major, you say its not the micro-fest you dread. I honestly think that theres nothing to dread even if it there is micro. The fact that you say "its not" atm , demonstrates how game elements that enhance "expertism" have a minimal effect on Casual Players because there IS too much undesirable micro that can only be detected if you enter the realms of expertism. <br
The micro addicts are the reason sins leans toward the RTS. Just once i would like a game to where i tell a fleet to go do something then go off, and read a paper knowing the AI will handle the rest.
I really dont understand then , why your not complaining about the game as it currently is because atm ,the better steamroll fleet is the one where people are much better at microing the special abilities with constant assignment manually. Autocast cannot match it.
I think Sins has what it takes to be both a successful RTS and 4x. The most important aspect ofcourse is the 4x element but I think prooven RTS micro elements can work. I see the "RTS" as the technical aspects of micro and how people use their mouse clicks. What needs to be microed and just as important what doesnt need to be microed. Ive gone of on a a few tangents about raiding , and ways to improve micro and I think it can be achieved in Sins so that it doesnt burden the casual playe
As long as nobody continues to confuse me with Avatar, I'm looking forward to it..
ha lol seriouly tho...
You want Star Trek Races to fight the original races.... why? Funnily enough I can see this working lol, their are so many races encountered in Star Trek that this is plausable enough..... gamma quadrant anyone?
2 reasons Making a seperate game with separate races makes it a game which might be played by a few mod-fans but ignored by the majority who want to make sure they practice getting good at the original races. A compatible mod that adds races that are
most important ones are guass , trade ports , refineries and repair stations. Maybe rather then tactical structures it would just be those..and maybe others. for everything else im not too fussed
If games are designed to work with multi-cores then do single core users suffer?
So while winning the game despite battles is possible, its not the majority or major factor in most games.
Sadly this is the underlying problem to the game. Imba is inevitable in games that dont introduce the player skill-dependant wildcard - movement tactics. RTS Game perfection = - 50% reliance on the statistical number crunching of clashing units - 50% reliance on the use of movement tactics to hit more resources of the opponent the
Just another bug The non-ice planet one - can include asteroids planets And the 4 colour one also can include asteroids. IF you want something like kronocs crosses middle planets you will need to use the Green weight flag icon.
My only concern is that the game usually forces you to have opposing players in the same starting system -- did that happen here, when you tested your map?
Put the map on Unlocked teams. When you meet the player in your system , ally with him. Have a gentlemans agreement with all parties not to screw around with alliances thereafter. no clue for sp tho...
with a story and movie clips,
Thats all I'm really hoping for!

Me too . I remember Homeworld 2. The missions werent much of a challenge but it was always something special to actually complete the missions because you unlock the next bit of FMV footage that progresses the storyline. I really hope Sins has a fmv driven storyline , even if the actual missions themselves are mickey-mouse compared to the skill of online play..
We dont know if other factions can be modded in or not. My trek mod will have the Feds, Klingons, and Romulans
Major , I know this is asking alot , but could you make the races compatible with the original races 1e balanced and stuff, to make a grand total of 6 races? or you could make a dedicated startrek mod , then make anothe
Theres chaos and theres too much chaos. Try editing the galaxy file and increasing the galaxypixels and the galaxysize per sumit
sins is a WIP so lets all stop playing that too!
touche
It says its a WIP should we wait till you have done more on this?
CUTE!!!
I always prefer order to maps. If you want chaos , just choose random maps. However im starting to see a pattern in the design of random maps which makes it just an ordered map that gives unfair start positions so I prefer ordered maps with fair start positions.
Flag True = Flagship True or False. i.e do you have a starting flagship Pyramid = number of artifacts. You can edit this in the .galaxy file if you want more then 20 The planet with yellow thing is Planet Bonus Count. Just to list the catogeries... Type 1 yellow is desert , bluishwhite is artic , red is volcanic , bluegreen is terran Type 2 the 4 asteroid one is planet asteroid , the single asteroid = dead asteroid , the ring = asteroid belt , the Questionm
i just want to add my 2 cents on vasari. Vasari is diverse in gameplay from the tec but its not diverse in roleplay from the tec
Okay, I can now confirm that when you go to generate your own maps you can now choose how the players will be distributed.
Are you refering to the forged tool set , or is it a new bit for .galaxy files coming in the next build of the beta?
LOL , ill fix it. My new version includes one mouse button phase assigning , full delete functions and more options for planet type. plus Gridlines!!
Ok Ive done a new version for the Editor. This will probably be the last I do. It now includes being able to reset or delete any phaselane or planet and you can set Labels to show which planet is Planet0 , Planet1 , and the order of phaselanes. Ive changed the phasemaking slighty too. Uploaded in OT
