Ships could have a very high max speed, but a low acceleration, which would remove much of the time unnecessary to travel between planets. I'll probably end up just using very big gravity wells, with few planets. Now, I would be able to test this theory out if I could FIND the file that decides the distance between planets :/

Yes, you get the full game (once released) and you can download the Beta instantly after ordering it with stardock tokens. And yes, you'll need to spend $70 It's business strategy :o Not everyone will use their leftover tokens, so they don't lose as much. Take a look at some of the other stardock games, you might be interested in them.

In a sense it is. Don't do anything until someone who actually has a good understanding of how to do this, but; Pre-ordering with actual money won't get you into the open beta. Using Stardock Tokens (something like that) to pre-order the game WILL let you into the open beta. http://totalgaming.stardock.com/store/index.aspx?page=purchasetokens $70 for 10 tokens, alot of money up-front but it leaves you some extra tokens after buying the game.
