Each player can pick whatever race he wants. As for the beta, I considered buying Soulstorm ($7.50 for a limited time off Steam) or pre-ordering DoW2 to get in now, but I've been reading the RelicNews forums and seeing a very mixed reaction to the game. I'd advise anyone still on the fence like me to just wait until the 28th when everyone can join the beta for free.

I'm beginning to wonder if folks were this cranky during the original beta days. If phase jump or a ship ability didn't work, did you guys get a spawn of posts about how they ought to just scrap them?

I haven't played seriously in months, but are you really saying that if you have 10 flak you won't be frequently vaporizing strikecraft? That would run counter to what I've read elsewhere. I'm open to the suggestion that they're not as effective as you would like, but this comment that they're so ineffective as to never be built seems a little hysterical.
It's never going to happen
That's where you could have stopped writing. Mines will be in Entrenchment and IC has said nothing to the contrary indicating about how they've just given up, woe is them, they can't figure out any way to make them better than they are now.

If mines stay as broken as they are, it'd be the height of stupidity to spend time coding a toggle to use them at all. For all the toggle advocates, let me just restate that it's never going to happen. IC is working on revamping the mines system. Make coherent suggestions on how to improve them and you improve your chances of enjoying them in the final version.

Hmm. It'd be interesting to see what the total resource cost turned out to be on a fleet built on the concept of carrier spam if say each strikecraft cost maybe 5 metal and crystal. Additionally, this might also add a good reason to keep strikecraft docked in a system with strong anti-strikecraft defenses, such as flak on hangars and other fighters, if its other ship defenses were weaker. Run in your combat ships and wait until you've disabled much of the anti-strikecraft
also, how easy can patching become?
Easy on Relic's end, I meant. They had a very convoluted QA system in place that caused months of delays to put out very minimal fixes. They're promising that things that are easy to fix will actually get pushed out the door and fixed. I'm hoping they won't drop the ball this time. As for things that need to be fixed, if you visit their forums, I'm pretty sure there are still balance and bug threads that had
Dawn of War II is nothing like Dawn of War
To each his own, but DoW2 is shaping up to be quite a lot like DoW to me with a great deal of improvements and changes. As for DoW's expansions, all up to and including Dark Crusade are worth playing if you can get them cheap. Soulstorm was crap and it's either pretty indicative of why Iron Lore shuttered its doors or evidence that they were in a rush to finish it before they closed down. Those that bought i

If you're loading the game and all you get is a blank screen, your mod was probably set to auto-load and it's crashing Entrenchment. Delete the mod from its folder and remove the line in your user settings file that tries to call it and you'll be okay again.

Pirates are on a complex system consisting of bounties and can change gameplay drastically depending on map size and other variations. Mines always work the same. IC should read these suggestions and improve their mechanic and they're doing so. Good. The notion of simply putting everything on a game setup toggle that's controversial is pretty dumb. Back when siege frigates led to game-breaking moments, should the developers have simply left them as is and let p

SP sounds a little meh from mixed-in RPG elements and frequent boss battles plus general repetitiveness, but I'm still very interested. Plus, with the heavy focus on 3v3 multiplayer, I'm a lot more excited about the online scene as I've always enjoyed team combat over 1v1.

I certainly wouldn't intepret the article as Ebbert stating flatly that there will be no DRM of any kind. If it turns out that way, great, but I think it's far more likely that there will be some minimal and noninvasive DRM methods employed which I have no problem with. The best news from this article when I read it over at the forums is the notion that they want to model the game's release after Valve's recent games and keep giving us frequent and free new additions on top of p

I hear from some that X3:TC is very playable with keyboard/mouse and from others that you're insane if you buy it and don't own a joystick. What's your take Annatar? I'm kinda regretting not getting it for $27 during the Steam Holiday sale now.

You've got a few options I believe: 1. Run Impulse. Click the blue circle with a question mark in the top right. Select 'Look up serial number...' to have your serial e-mailed to you. 2. Go to https://www.stardock.com/support/ and follow the directions there to retrieve your serial. 3. Contact [email protected] and follow their instructions. Hope this resolves your issue.
