Problems with the turn button vanishing is one the the things noted in the release notes for the current beta.
The game is in a very early state and crashes will be common. Please install SmartException from Link And send the resultant CRA file and the debug.err file from your GalCiv2 root directory to [email protected] along with as much description regarding what was happening, in game, as possible when the crash occured.

SmartExeception is a great tool. When it works. SE stopped working for me midway through the GC1 beta process and never worked again.
