I had no problem connecting via SDC and the download and reinstallation of GC2 Beta 4 proceeds flawlessly. I've installed the multimedia successfully on two other computers but on this computer the multimedia fails to install with the above error. Chicago server, California server, doesn't matter. Same result.

Same problem here. Even an uninstall / reinstall didn't help.
Was this an upgrade install of Beta 4 over top of Beta 3? I had similar crashes that went away after I uninstalled GC2 and then reinstalled Beta 4 from scratch.
Your mileage may vary but I performed upgrade installs from Beta 3 to Beta 4 on two different computers and encounted all sorts of misbehavior. Everything from crashes to the desktop during game startup to Lucky Jacks many instances of "string not found" errors. All went away when I completely uninstalled GC2 and reinstalled Beta 4 from scratch.
Hence the question.
From Brad's original post: "Subscriber-Only Skins. When a user who has Master access or higher submits a skin, a checkbox will appear that will indicate whether it is only available for subscribers or not. If checked, the skin is only available for subscribers for 30 days after its original create date" Seems clear enough to me. The creator of the skin, if the have "Master Apprentice" level access or higher can, at their discret
For Beta 4: What's the dev team preference? Little bitty posts with one issue per post or a single mult-point post with several issues in the same post?
Brad was referring to the gamma or release candidate versions. Probably around the beginning of the year.
You don't need Star Wars/Trek tech to lob rocks at a world. We can do that now. It just takes dropping a rocket engine on an asteriod or comet, and patience. The faster you want that bit of rock to hit another target, the bigger the engine. You don't need it to do the lobbing but you do need something close to it for complete protection aga
What is the point of planetary defenses then if the enemy can just bomb the crap out of them? In the real world this is a hard question to answer without "Star Trek" or "Star Wars" levels of technology. When someone in orbit can literally destroy all life on a planet by, essentially, throwing rocks it's very hard to defend a world. It's much
Pascal...the probable reason why no one has commented is because the diplomatic portion of the game hasn't been functional yet. According to Stardock it will be in Beta 4.
While ProudCanadian has a good point I think we might want to table this topic until after Beta 4 comes out next week. We really have no idea what the current state of the game is.
I don't see a 1.02.006 in SDC either.
It's a "thank you" from Stardock for providing valuable feedback. So far the only announced benefit, with respect to GC2, is access to the private beta releases after beta 4. I assume the Galactic Council forum will work the same way as the GC1 forum did.
The GC1 site had a similar forum "Galactic Council". It was only visible if you were of a certain access level or higher, Veteran on the GC1 site. The idea was that the restricted forum would be used to post beta comments where both the Dev Team and the people chasing the bugs didn't have to dig through the main forum. Less chance of something being lost due to the sheer volume of posts on the main forum. It'll probably be "activated" closer to the release of Beta 4.
Thanks for the update Brad. Two more weeks.
I've encountered similar glitches when starting a new game without exiting GC2. If I exit to the desktop first the problems vanish.
I doubt it. The concept of ship's crew isn't even in the game. It's the ship as an entity that's composed of both ship and crew that's getting the experience levels. I am curious to see how upgrading of ships is handled though. If I have a battleship with 5 levels of experience and I've had major tech increases since it was designed then I'd like to incorporate that tech without having to scrap the ship. The MOO2 mechanism for this worked rather well.
Nope. Factories = cheaper and less output. Mines = More expensive and more output.
I noticed that same thing and I think part of the problem is that the tech tree isn't finished and that the tech interface is still to be fleshed out. At present it's very hard to get a feel for what tech is required for a specific goal.
There are all sorts of strange things that happen if you start a new game without completely exiting the game. Case in point: 1. In the new game I just started the fog of war around my homeworld is uncleared. 2. My homeworld approval rating is 1%. 3. I start with no starport on my homeworld. 4. The "stats" screen has a series of "string not found" in the "Overall Ranking" section 5. My ships don't clear the fog of war when they move. The list
While it could make the display a bit messy at times if there were a large number of ships on auto-pilot the old mechanism of some sort of line between current ship position and destination point would be helpful. Especially nice would be if the lines could be toggled on and off.
Rather than delete how about a filter on the display where only the most advanced of each component type is visible?
You will also have to set Stardock Central to show pre-release software. To do this go to the Tools menu item in Stardock Central -> Settings. Once there select "General" under the "Settings" section on the right side of the screen. Then make sure there is a check mark in the first item of the "Applications" section: "Show pre-release (alpha / beta) versions. Then hit the "Okay" button. After that you may have to refresh the view in Stardock Central. T
I had a CTD after about an hour of play. SE dump and debug.err files sent to the gc2bugs address. Wasn't doing anything special at the time just whacking the turn button waiting for tech research to complete. Initial thoughts: The game is much more playable. The new tech navigator provides a much nicer way to deal with the tech tree. The ship-to-ship combat is nice but is only really visible at high zoom. I tend
