Heh. Some people like quick games, some people like slow games. Personally I like to turn off influence victory and then win a conquest victory by flipping all my opponents. I had the missing turn bug once last night, and it was a pathfinding error. (I've gotten to the point I don't need to reload the game when it happens. Just go into the ship list and space off any ship with movement. Once you clear the ship with the problem, the turn advances.) Hmm...if it happens again, I'll try to
Or, OK - if you are building constructors for 159 instead of 176... it will still take you at least 3 years to recoup the cost of adding a trade module to a starbase. And on average, much much longer to recoup that cost. ~ Wyndstar
Wyndstar, you are still assuming you have 1 trade route going through that starbase's area. When I am trading for profit rather than political reason (improving relations) I make all my freighters from the same planet, and send them o
It's not 'crippling'. My first game as the Thalans, I didn't notice the +8 ag on the Hyperion Matrix, and built it on a 300% research tile on my homeworld. By the time the population maxxed itself (double sized colony ships coming from there helped slow that process down) , I had ~ 40 planets...Despite the 37% morale on my homeworld, the overall morale was 97%.....Granted I had 10 of the morale buildings on Thala, the morale starting building, harmony crystals,.... You know...this was t
Isn't the political capital +50% Influence?
Try it with 920 planets on a DA, Gig, Abundant, All with hundreds or thousands of ships. Trust me, you will be reloading the game to before the event if you ever want to actually finish the game. But then, I'm OK with reloading since I save out multiple copies of the game as I play.
Actually, that raises a point I was thinking I was seeing. In DA I remember playing galaxies where I had 800+ planets. Is it just me, or does the new immense setting seem to be smaller than th
Heh. I got this last night, playing as the Thalans. I immediately sold Alliance tech to the Drengin, and Torians, and made alliances with them, and the Terrans. Diplo victory. Then I reloaded the auto-save and saved it with a new name. I'll play it out later. It really does suck on an immense map, but I would have played it to the quickest conclusion either way. (I was only 2 techs from a tech victory as well, and I always disable influence victory)
Well, I didn't even see the new screen, but anyway, rather than a new screen I would have liked to have a better/richer invasion combat game design... I mean, invasion is still "I put X million pop on transport ships and drop them fight your pop" ! No planetary defense, no soldiers, no planes/tanks/robots/whatever, it's an insect invasion game !! Since GC1 this feature is for me the poorest of the game and seriously ruin immersion... When you compare to say... MoO2 8 years ago, it
Some of you fail to take into account that some forms of immobile defenses required specialized equipment, or specialized tactics to deal with them. Seige weapons like the catapults and bastilas were effective against stone structures like castles. The Great wall of China didn't do so well when the Mongols decided to walk around it until they found the beach where it ended. Treanches were dealt with by using gas warefare, and latter tanks. Japan might of been conqoured by an invasion, but
Playing with tech trading off is no longer an option with some races having no access to starbase mining modules, good econ techs, morale techs (Hello, Thalans!), etc.
I've heard this from other people before. I don't know how they miss it, but the Thalans have a pretty nice Morale building in their tree.
static defenses should always be weaker than mobile forces. No purely static defense has held since the industiral revolution (and probably since long before that!) Why should we expect the future to hold anything different?
This isn't QUITE accurate. Short examples of static defenses holding against mobile forces. The English Channel. Germany never was able to successfully invade England in WWII. The Great Wall of China. It didn't stop EVERY invasion, but it sto
I'm not sure what the images are supposed to tell us. They look like start-up images from 2 different games. (The minimap shows me they are different, the races have different starting locations.) I suspect that if you raised that tax bar to 45%, you wouldn't be losing money anymore. The economy is harder, and it maybe needs some balancing, although I am personally not being bothered by it, because I am throttling back my expectations of what I can do. That may be yo
I hadn't associated it with the Eyes on the Universe tech, but I have seen these sensor ghosts. I don't typically go for the Eyes on the Universe, so I know the bug goes beyond it. I don't mind the other issue mentioned. As long as the bonus shows up the next turn I'm good. I wouldn't go to the trouble of clicking all my ships for a sneak peak anyway....but that's me.
I usually do this early enough that I only have 10-15 ships in the first place, with most of them being
One of my strategies involves grabbing the sensor techs all in 1 research rush, and then buying an Eyes of the Universe, so I don't have to put sensors on my ships. With 4.0 yesterday, I did this, and then was going through my ships clicking on them (you have to do this in order to get the expanded sensor range immediately) I had a couple fleets formed, but when I clicked on them, the sensor range didn't change. In order to get the expanded sensor range, I had to disband the fleets and then refo
Alright. I'm still a fairly serious WoW player. 3 70s, a 65 and a 63. (War, Hunter, Mage, War (Fury), Priest) That said, I am emphatically NOT a PVPer. I'm pushing 40, and my reflexes and manual dexterity are not what they used to be. Add to that the lack of ANY kind of sportsmanship (the game is filled with poor losers and worse winners) and I am completely turned off by the PVP aspects of the game. What the original poster listed as the biggest flaws in the game, are to me it's g
OMG! Can't escape them!! Now I'm seeing WoW PLing and WoW gold buying messages on GalCiv's forums...ARGHHHHH!
Seriously 1.8e broke this game for me, and the 1.8f fix didn't help. How about reposting the 1.8d build?
It shouldn't be. I'm seeing this in DA also. (Influence also takes 2 turns to get reset. One of these days I'm going to lose a planet that shouldn't be in cultural trouble, and then I'm going to blow my stack)
I am NOT running the Star Trek mod...
I am also having this error. I updated to the latest build via stardock central well into a game with a Gigantic map (I control roughly 430 of 750 worlds) and now every 6 or 7 turns, I get the out of memory error. I'm running XP Pro on a Athalon 3400+ ATI Radeon 1300 Pro SB Audigy 4. (all new drivers, my HD crashed last month, requiring a new HD) my virtual memory is set at 4gig and I have 1 gig of ram.
