thanx, i think you got my problem. i will uncheck the option and try. anyway i carefully have to remove the existing old game ships. and yes, thats exactly what i did with templates. empty ones and 'save as template'. these ships are then available as soon as i have the hull size researched. this worked as expected.
Whats the best way of getting rid of old ship designs. I used to name my ship designs always the same way e.g.: Light Fighter MkI,II,III ... as i dont have enough imagination and creativity for new names every time. I found that designs from previous games arent available for upgrade or build - except the empty versions i created as templates. I also have found that whenever i create a new ship in game with a name from an old game it complained about the name and didnt show it in the shipyar
