I noticed this myself when I played my first 1.09 game. Personally, I think it should be off by default, not on. It's counter-intuitive to have something like that on when in most other games produced (including pre-beta 1.1) it's off by default. By this same token and on the same screen, when you turn on cinematics (which is off by default...why?!) it turns off all the checked features in that column, which shouldn't happen. Each option should be independently switched unless directly

Yeah...they can cover the upper right most techs if there are any there to cover (at least for Vasari...can't remember if it was civ or mil). I'd prefer to see vertical placement as well, grouped together... the buy/sell metal and the buy/sell crystal above/below each other respectively, as well as the pirate bribe command and current bounty/target info. I don't usually bribe the pirates, but it's fun to see what the current bounty on your head is. heh

(note: huh...wow...the forum munged my post up and it won't let me edit....very weirdly... There was actually a paragraph break in the middle of that big one and everything from "I then start building trading posts" to the end was up before that last big paragraph. lol )

I should preface this with "as TEC"... Personally, I start off by maxing my homeworld cap, building 5 light frigs, 1 colonizer frig (for capturing resources in asteroid belts or at gas giants, as well as a faster flight craft to zip around and grab free planets), then 2 scouts and send them off to auto-explore while I build my cap ship factory, and 1 each of a civ and mil lab. I'll then push out an Akkan for colonization of border worlds, and while I'm bringing it online, the scouts have found m

Yeah...as a TEC solo player, I know that the AI will counter it if their ships have the abilities for it. Luckily, the pirates don't. Since getting 1.09, I use a single Mazra and 5 or so Kodiaks to protect a "beachhead" from Pirates. Against the AI player races, I'll take a Mazra, a carrier, a couple Kols, and an Akkan, as well as the other fleet complements. Reason for the Akkan is that, in the presence of an Akkan, the Mazra can do its thing unimpeded. The AI seems to like to tar

I've not had much experience with it, but from what I read elsewhere, cap ships are your counter...that and long-range craft and/or fighters/bombers. As to why you have to target a craft for it, it's because it's an area effect and you need to choose a "center" for it. You center the ability on an enemy craft and it radiates out from that point. That's the core difference between an AoE and a PBAoE (Point-Blank Area of Effect...effectively an aura).

Build a swarm of LRM's and light carriers and go for his labs and frig constructors...ignore everything else. Go after them fast and hard. Jump from system to system with your scouts on auto to keep you apprised of where he's building them. This will have a twofold effect. First, he'll be expending massive resources trying to rebuild labs and on the kodiaks themselves...they aren't cheap. They'll also take a long time to build, compartively. This allows for the secondary effect...usuall
~snip~ I havent had much expeirence but i can say that from wat ive seen kodiaks dont entirely last that long. and also, when i enter a battle against TEC those heavy cruisers are high on my list for ships i need to destroy. So in my opinon i would say its not worth building some unless you are planning to only build a few to do some quick damage. And btw this is a veiw point from a vasari player, that is my veiw of kodiaks
...and while you're focus-firing on the

If you're playing against the AI only, putting most everything on automation is okay to do, minus the cap carrier missile platform ability (it tends to drop those the moment it goes into combat mode, leaving them, often, far from the battle). Against another player, there's not too too many you want to leave on automation unless you have a massive fleet. The Hoshiko's repair ability is good to leave automated, as well as the Dunov's (?) Shield Restore for a TEC player (if you can't tell

As TEC, I personally like to take in a dreadnaught, a colonizer cap, a battleship, and a contingent of 5 hc carriers, 10 Kodiaks, and a good 15-20 LRM's with area warheads. I'll sometimes have a couple Hishokas and a command cruier too, depending. This is usually my assault fleet. 5 strike groups of fighters and 5 bombers for both anti-fighter/bomber tacops and chasing down fleeing craft, maxed uplink for range for the LRM's and dreadnaught's missiles, Hish for repairs, and all those LR
Is there a line to wait? it has been saying downloading for quite sometime but says 0/0 bytesSeems there are a lot of people downloading it recently. Also try the new downloading mechanism through Blue Orb - Preferences - Connection.
Ayup. This is what fixed it for me, finally. It still took awhile to get past 2.11mb on the download, but once it did, it flew.

The only one I've actually run across (at least, the only one that's stuck out for me) is that last one when updating bases. Once it happens, it happens often; on the order of once every 3 or so base upgrades.

But it doesn't help me with strategy games.
Me either, and therein lies the problem. If it did, I'd be golde
I'm a writer... me too! personally, i despise the question 'what do you write?', so instead i'll ask if you'd care to share anything, but leave open the option to answer the dodged question if you'd prefer.
I mostly write fantasy. I enjoy doing sci-horror on occasion even though I'm not as "fluent", shall we say, in that genre. At any rate, about the only thing I could share is a

There's people who are fantastic painters who, no matter how much you try to teach them, couldn't balance a checkbook that had no checks and no atm card or deposits made to it ($0 in and $0 out). There's highly skilled accountants who couldn't paint a recognizable picture if it was a paint-by-numbers and there was only 1 number on the canvas and 1 color in the paint tray. I'm a writer... hehehe

Oh, for sure... I usually run Neutral align...sometimes take a Good choice or Evil on rare occasion, depending on what's happening. I play the Terrans because, as I've found, I invariably lose no matter the race I take when I go for Conquest, so I go for Cultural/Influence wins. It's my greatest success. I play on Small maps and set everything else to Random. That's how I usually learn...by having the game throw different small things at me. I just played a game on a small map,

Bah...control your population the old-fashioned way... Build massive transports, send them into space...and blow them up.

Alternatively, if that doesn't work for you, this is what I use: GalCiv2\DarkAvatar\DALaunch.exe Hit properties on the shortcut, then Change Icon, then browse to that location. The .exe for the game contains the default icon.

The new low-res thumbnails are just... Terrible... Sorry guys! But i'd much rather the 128x128 versions. I'll have to second that one... between 3 of my ships, I couldn't tell, from the thumbnail, which was which, they were so blurred and pixelated. hehe

The flickering mouse point problem has returned. Nothing changed that would affect that. I can confirm that there's now a flickering cursor... It's intermittent, but the bugger of it is that on occasion (on a fresh reboot, even) the cursor will periodically disappear for a few seconds in shipyard mode...
