heh I thought it was sorta linked to the fact that people usually associate the word "Hyper" to something super-fast... Hyperion, the Titan in mythology, was often related to the sun and thought of, by some, as the sun itself. Hyperion, the satellite of Saturn, is rather inconsequential and forgettable. *shrugs*

Same here. I've seen Yor (in good relations phase) with Large hulls, Lasers +5, Phasors, and higher than singularity drivers+ shileds 3 and more, yet never muster more than a decent quality frigate when relations broke down and we went to war. 2 Fleeted Battlecruiser level ships, for me, would tear through their whole fleet and they'd still not mustered out so much as a Light Cruiser, even.

Maybe the Dreadlords blew it up! *ducks* Weird...not had that happen, yet... though there's a couple ship components that don't completely render for me once applied to ships, no matter what I do.

Well...like I said... I'm terrible at this (read: uncreative) compared to everyone else here, as is evidenced by this one... It's a small base defense fighter (meant to have its weapons and shields augmented by a base). It took me, literally, 8 hours to be even half way satisfied with it enough to put it up here (it's the first fighter I build). (edit: I should say the look is a new one...the loadout is the sa

Ahhh...from the original post, it seemed as if it was because of end-of-turn processing overhead. If you're sending them all to the same few stations, then fleet them up once they get to the rally point is all I can advise. Say you have 40 constructors and 10 bases you're sending them to... fleet them up in groups of 4 and you've just quartered your overhead (and clicking).

Hmm...I got the 4000 troops. Was the transport with the 8 modules auto-launched? If so, it wouldn't necessarily launch with the full amount. Also, if the planet it launched from didn't have enough population to support it launching full, it would only launch partially full. This is about what I was going to respond with, myself. In one game, I had a Medium hull with 4 standar

I do it when I'm playing a map that's got abundant habitable planets. That way, I can keep from going too lean on population as I'm churning out colonizers every turn. Dunno why anyone else does.

Well...you can look at it this way... You aren't playing a Huge/Gigantic map to finish a game in a couple hours, so what's a min or two extra per turn? lol Seriously, though, without doing fleet movement, you're bound by the limitation of the hard coding. That limitation is that it doesn't just place the ships where they end up, but moves each one individually... Another thought is perhaps convert some of your rear guard to doing something other than ship production an

One thing about Mars-like planets that are close to a civ's primary is that they tend to benefit very much from the terraforming technologies. Your PC4 banking planet could easily turn into a PC16 powerhouse later in the game. This is part of what makes Mars so great for my "Vegas" planet. By late game, I'm churning out so much money I can buy Large Hull warships every turn instead of waiting for them to be made. Or buy a LOT of fast

Hehehehe that is a small factor,,, the big main reason for destroying influence starbases is the sucky 4 station limit per sector. That there has been my one and only reason for ever destroying an influence base...when I needed to have another one in the same sector to try to roll over a dense group of planets and the one I'm destroying doesn't overlap enough of them.

11 Replies 6,363 Views

I always judge by what bonus tiles are on the planet I'm looking at and what I already have. ...except Mars. It's got so few spaces, I usually just make it a cash producer and let it rip...no starport, no nothing but entertainment centers. lol *shrugs* It seems to work for me. Yeah, key thing is to experiment and see what works best for you with playstyle, settings of the game, and prevailing circumstances.

I personally leave them up in my "no warships" play in order to help keep a planet from being flipped back by enemy influence bases, or for reflipping if I lose them in a planetary invasion... Of course, the way I build up planets, I usually have a massive economic machine that drives my bases. Most influence bases on a Tiny map for me? 38... 3 per planet flip, left them all

11 Replies 6,363 Views

Regular constructors on Earth (I almost always play Terrans) almost always end up being churned out once every three turns. On even Tiny map sizes, at a stock movement of 2, the default constructors could take 8-10 turns to get to a base deep in enemy territory. Along comes my Azanti Constructor with a movement of 6... It's taking 6 turns to produce and getting there in 3-4 turns. I net more constructors arriving in a given timespan... If I'm in a rush, I buy them turn

Ayup. I'm using an eVGA Nvidia 7800GS. It's about $180.00... ClubIT.com has that card for $133.99: WWW Link I bought my 6800GS from them, and they seem to be fast and reliable, as well as inexpensive. hehe Therein lies the difference. I don't buy from online... When I put money

All options exhausted. Gonna RMA tomorrow. So, anybody got any recommendations on a mid-priced Nvidia AGP card that will actually play this game? Ayup. I'm using an eVGA Nvidia 7800GS. It's about $180.00 but worth every penny if you don't want to go up to an

LOL I was born in Burlingame Peninsula Hospital lo these many decades ago... My godfather was once upon a time the general manager of Metcalf-Reese Ford-Lincoln-Mercury that owned 3 of the 4 corners of the once-great "Auto Row" of the early 60's to early 70's there in Burlingame. I know the peninsula all too well, even though I'm across the bay in the greater Hayward area now... A lot of areas of Burlingame, Belmont, and San Carlos still carry that 20's-60's appeal...my grandmo

LOL! Well, if I ever did, Brisbane is where I'd want to go anyway... There's a little town just south of San Francisco that, once upon a time, everyone knew of, though now almost no one seems to... Brisbane. It's built on the walls of a small extinct caldera between San Fransisco and South San Francisco. I spent from yr 0 - 5 there, and still go back for the occassional visit. I think the pop was...oh... 500? lol That's being liberal with the numbers, too. <img src="http://images.stardo

I'm sure this isn't a new concept, but it's something I thought of last night... Do gigantic galaxy, set everything to "random", and select your favorite race (or your own custom race). Now...select the appropriate alignment via your playstyle. For Example: If you like playing the Drengin Empire, play them warlike and Empirical, and always select "Evil" options on events. If you like playing Terrans, select Federalists, play them primarily defensive and expansio

They actually fixed the TerraDestroyer under DA, but it's never been ported back to DL. Good to know... Under these circumstances, I'll likely start playing DA games again. I was getting averse to playing DA games because of seeming to always get all the planets near me be ones I had to research to colonize while the AI races seem to always get the immediately habitable ones. I get tired of getting extremely behind in tech just so I can colonize my own li
