@Kadath: Heh, we're basically just arguing semantics, I suppose. To you the lack of variety in some features means it feels unfinished, to me it means it feels rushed. Doesn't really change the criticism, just the nature of the criticism. ;) I will kind of point out though that comparing Elemental to the current version of GalCiv2 isn't entirely fair to them. For the initial release of Elemental I would think they were going for the same sort of thing they did a

@Kadath: While I agree with many of the improvements you say could be made, I don't think they're evidence that the game is "unfinished", at least not in the sense that it keeps being used on this issue, "completeness". Room for improvement doesn't mean it's not a complete game. Now, if you mean it's unfinished because you expect those features to be worked on by the dev team, I can accept that. But I wouldn't say it's a reason for huffiness when pointing them ou

I get the same issue occasionally on an Nvidia card. http://pastebin.com/zQCUmx0r The pertinent bit seems to be: DebugMessage: DX Error: Invalid call Debug Message: ERROR: Failed to set ambient color to -1 in ::SetAmbientColor DebugMessage: Error flipping back buffer to primary buffer. I run into the same problem with the complete absence of particle effects for spells (or other places, but the absence of a fireball is easiest to note). No glowies on notable locations either. My debug.err: http://pastebin.com/BdRcK8XB I've tried disabling/re-enabling particle effects, and tweaked a few other graphics settings, with no change yet.

Brief observations: - When a unit is standing on an improvement you cannot access the button to build on that improvement without moving the unit off it first. Unless that's intended behavior, the action to build the improvement should probably be added to the action list for the unit on the tile. - The newly-added hero action button that accesses hero inventory (from the appearance, "camp" or the like) does not have a tooltip on mouseover e
Man, this thread is entertaining I wish we had a forum devoted just to the people freaking out, so they could feed on each other's rage and just completely go nuclear.
Could be worse. Could be Valve's forums before one of their releases. The Left4Dead 2 release was late by, what, a few hours? Hundreds upon hundreds of whines. I enjoyed the game, but I enjoyed the forums during its delay even more.

I'm not seeing much difference between Apple zealots and Stardock zealots, both from this article and from the comments following. And that's coming from someone who owns a Mac for his "real" work, but also paid for Object Desktop and ObjectDock Plus for his PC (and who absolutely loves his tabbed dock). First, on the article...You took ONE post on Gizmodo and declared that Mac users were on the rampage over Dell's dock. The article you cited doesn't even make bones about d

Trading posts do work across non-trade post sectors, but as I understand it the value of each of your trade posts will increase based on the length of your longest trade route - and a trade route requires a trading post in each conquerable sector in the chain. To see your longest trade route when you have posts built, mouse over your gold total at the top of the interface. So yes, you can skip a sector, but if there could be a colony there (even a dead asteroid colony), it will interrupt a tra

Meh, in short: Developers should consider coding their games with platform independence in mind. I can't blame them for not doing so, given the disparity between the gaming adherents of the various operating systems, but doing so would allow them to partner with companies that specialize in those other OSes and get their games to a wider audience. Given that the MacOS marketshare is slowly increasing, that Linux (Ubuntu in particular) has gotten much easier to install and use in recent years,

It's worth noting that they wouldn't just have to port Sins - they would need to port at least Impulse over as well. At that point Stardock may just figure it's too much trouble. I'd say it definitely should come down to what they think would make money, and be worth any extra headaches, rather than just ideology. I say that as a Mac user from the first year the machine was released, and a gamer through-and-through (Radical Castle, yay!). It's fair to be a partisan where the platform

On the patch: Frogboy came out and said this isn't the Patch To End All Balance Patches right in the OP. This is a patch to rush out some needed changes to the black market and whatever other balance changes can be easily implemented with a minimum of testing. Some posts advocated redoing Advent tech trees, or changing the effects of culture. I'm grateful that the devs are more patient than those posters, since sweeping changes like that would benefit from more extensive testing than woul

Some main points, then... - The intent appears to be that spamming one ship type early game should not be a viable strategy. Clearly it is a useful approach right now, so some sort of balancing is in order. A ship population limit beyond what's already in place would be a Bad Thing, so that would mean either weakening LRMs in some way, making them harder to produce en masse in early game, or strengthening early game planetary defenses. Some level of spam should still be useful, I wou

To some points, I would say that "realism" isn't as important as "believability" in a game, and both are subordinate to "fun". To me, it's believable that these super-advanced civilizations have something that can do a ton of damage to a planet's infrastructure from orbit. I don't need to know the specific details. And while it would be more realistic to have to worry about details like ground forces, from a fun standpoint I'm fine with their absence - it would distract from the space battles
