HighWater, I'm positive. As a note, it's not a hard 3%, it's a random value, up to I believe 10% (which is what I got), but I don't remember the lower limit. It's most likely worthwhile early in the game, but later on, a 3 or even 5% additional research bonus (due to the fact that bonuses are cumulative, rather than multiplicative) is, IMHO, useless. Mac, I don't know.

You can't in DL, but you can in DA as well as in TA. In the colony (planet) management screen, under Available Projects, select the Old tab. You might also want to turn off auto upgrade for those planets as well, via the governor, accessed from Details, also in the colony (planet) management screen.
The 'Captain's Log' anomaly still does absolutely nothing. I found about 8-10 of them, built out a nice medium warship and upgraded my Flagship. Total experience = 0. This anomaly has never worked, in any game. Why can't the experience just be given immediately, not supposedly awarded on an upgrade?
It IS given immediately. It just doesn't DO anything until you upgrade it. Don't look at the experience bar. Check ship details. I'

Never any difficulty with Imageshack here, though I can't say I like all the cookies it tries to save. (Fairly positive it's Imageshack that does that...) Running AVG alongside Comodo with Spybot S&D being supported by SpywareBlaster, albeit on Firefox. Not to get into another discussion on it, but I just want to say I'm glad you guys resolved the issues in the rule thread, and I have to admit I am pleasantly surprised by the resulting rules. Almost makes me want to join the

As I hadn't played a game in at least a month and a half and couldn't remember, I fired up a new one. Lo and behold, this was the first event I got. (I was as surprised as you are.) I checked my stats before (at game start, and they hadn't changed) and after, and I remembered correctly-the +Tech is a civilization-wide Research bonus. The reason it isn't specified as a +Research is because those are the ones that are planet-specific.

They're not flagged, at least (Beta 5), but my guess would be you've already checked that. (Have you tried trading for them?) As far as stealing techs goes, there have been a fair number of threads on the apparently odd behavior involved with it. My theory is that you always "steal" a tech...but sometimes it's a tech you already have. In essence, when you invade a planet, one of the defending AI's techs is chosen for you to steal, at pseudo-random, and if you already have it,
I could swear I got a 20% creativity tech from one of the races, deep into their their tech tree, but I can't find it now.I thought it was either the Thalan or Iconian tree, but I scoured them, and then every other race's tree searching for it.Was it just some fevered dream, or does such a tech exist?
Thalans, Neutral. You are correct; +20%. Haven't played the Iconians yet...
Ya my mind is at ease now with this new information, i used to just get teh patch v1.4x off of the galciv2 website, i never used SDC until today. They took down the link for the patch, so i had to use SDC. I dont have DA and would love to get TA, cant wait till its done. Thanks boys. P.S. I have dial-up. YAAA 56000 BAUD BABY!!
I have a working 300bps modem at home. ;) Thank God those days are over.

If you're going to use a configurator, I would recommend [link="http://www.pcusa.com/"]these guys[/link], if possible. I've built my last couple of systems myself, but I used them once upon a time, and I had no real regrets; just that I didn't know enough about computers then to know how shoddy of a system I built. I never had need of support from them, but I never doubted they'd be there, either. I can't say the same for ibuypower-I haven't dealt with them myself, and don't ever want to, but

You have 1.80e, not 1.80g. Download [link="http://files.filefront.com/Keyreg/;9530968;/fileinfo.html"]this[/link] and then run SDC to update DA. You can open it via Notepad or send it through your favorite virus scanner if you're concerned about the contents; it's clean. It changes your DA version number to 1.7 so SDC will properly update DA. Don't forget to have SDC as well as DA closed when you do this. You may need to change your server to US-1, via Tools-->Settin

Valid points, maudlin, although not quite the answer I was looking for. (For the record, I'm not positive the answer I'm looking for exists.) Maybe I'll have a reason to play the Arceans now.

This isn't specifically a thread for or against it, but I'm against it personally and no doubt my views will be reflected in my thoughts. This isn't reporting it as a bug, either; it's just a place to talk about it. And this only applies to DA+TA, so DL users will unfortunately be largely unable to participate in this discussion. Actually, reading over what I've written, my thoughts are primarily on DA, but TA users are welcome to jump in as well, though some things are a bit

@Justin Even though I don't play Suicidal myself, I couldn't have said it better. I mainly just stick to Tough-I'm honestly too scared to go to Suicidal. @neilo I would hope you'll update to 2.0 when it gets released, and possibly before then when the military/social production rounding error gets backported (come on, you know you want that extra 1 production you're supposed to have...), as well as some other bugs that the Stardock folks have fixed/will fix. The AI rarely if ever builds ships faster than ~10pc/wk with all of the engine tech bonuses applied, so the idea of it crippling your opponent as well

You need a better PSU. I can tell that just by looking at the wattage-420 is a value that no one (good) makes (in general). OCZ is good, Silverstone is awesome, Corsair is very nice, PC P & C is still epic (though OCZ bought them), Seasonic is impressive, Antec is workable (or good if you get one of their 80+ efficiency models), and you can never go wrong with FSP. As a bonus, FSP is, in general, a bit cheaper than most others. If you decide to go cheapo on your PSU, at least get a ~

Start game with cheats on (shortcut with -cheat appended to the end). Ctrl + Shift + W the specified enemy or enemies planet(s) to complete the mission. I think it's Ctrl + Shift + W, anyway. Might just be Ctrl + W-I always forget. Hit end turn, and mission is complete. IIRC, in DA there's one where you need to get a number of spies onto a world, and that's not strictly doable with cheats (AFAIK), but you can at least unfog the map and ensure your economy can crank o
All of that is something we certainly can agree on (even if my case for piracy, on a personal level, has more to do with ideology than "this company deserves my cash, that one doesn't"). All the rest is pretty much spot-on compared to myself (although I have to ask myself why you stayed with 98 for so long. I've always considered 98 to be the worst kind of basic windows there were).
Well, there was 2000...which I couldn't stand. And then there was ME... So, yeah

You can get TA by itself for $24.95 [link="https://www.galciv2.com/Purchase.aspx"]here[/link], though it's down the page a bit, or [link="http://totalgaming.stardock.com/games/?id=gc2ta"]here[/link]. It seems you've already been to the first page...I'm leaving the above in my post just in case you've missed TA separate somehow. I do believe DA is required for it (might not be, can't remember), but you say you have that already, so that shouldn't be relevant. Am I missing something? U
