I forgot about the Space Miner trick. I did use that ploy.I upgrade the miner to a colony ship virtually every game. Some other civ will mine the asteroids next to my homeworld and then it will flip to me relatively soon, so I mostly ignore them in the beginning of the game.
Hi. Not in the MVL, but enjoying this discussion. :) I do that myself, but lately (TA Thalans...) I've been finding uses for the miner as a miner. It takes a little while to get g

Although I'm aware you're speaking specifically of TA, I feel it necessary to point out that the Thalans are only "duds" in TA. In DA they're arguably among the best. Even so, in TA, they're absolutely ridiculous (and by that I mean good) if you can get them going fast enough-though that's a very big if. There's also the problem of the AI only building embassies, as that's the only thing it can build (more of an AI bug than a Thalan bug), as well as the fact that it doesn't (as of last check)
1) Post debug.err, or the last few lines of it, after a crash, before going back into the game (as that creates a new/current debug.err which overwrites the old one). (Debug.err is in the appropriate folder in your My Games folder in My Documents.) 2) Download [link="https://www.stardock.com/products/smartexception/"]SmartException[/link]. 3) Are you running windowed mode or fullscreen? Try the other one and report back. 4) Did you say SLI? I seem to remember SLI no
I can see how the encouragement towards a natural alignment would work, as well as help, both from a flavor point of view and from a game point of view. I'm also hoping that this means the Drengin will finally start building Dominator Corvettes with their current technology (IIRC they never have, maybe it's been fixed and I haven't noticed yet). But somehow I doubt that. However. Do we REALLY need to make the Drengin/Korath militarily STRONGER? I mean, come ON. <
Well, giving them a starting ship would resolve the "mega event" where the DLs appear and surrender to you a turn later, based on how low their military is compared to yours. I'm not sure one ship would be enough, though. Three battleships and three transports sounds like a good mix, but might be too much of a challenge. Though, if the surrendering algorithm, and in particular how the AI views military, could get an overhaul, that would benefit a lot more things while fixing that as w
Short answer: Yes. (Note: You said "current".) Hyperion Matrix costs 50BC-but as it has an industrial component, it counts as a factory, which means it costs 12BC for the Thalans with Super Hive. This is only a 90BC rush buy (or 80BC via the first lease option at 60 + 4 * 5) without any PurchaseNowReductions, and if you are for some reason running 57% or greater social, it's a one turn build on a new colony anyway with the default +33 social (and military, but that's irrelevan
@gherardo Partial tiles count. I know that's not what you're looking for, but maybe it will help. @DSep Very good idea, and should not be a problem to "implement", as it were, as this is moddable in and works in DA. The only thing is that Tech A does not at present tell you that you need Tech B to unlock Tech C. However, Tech A and Tech B both specify that they unlock Tech C. Interestingly enough (and rightly so), the game will not permit you to research Tech C until both Te
Interesting. I've never had this problem with my X1950GT. I do find I'm looking at a black screen after my screensaver activates + goes away, but alt tabbing in and out fixes that 90%+ of the time, and I'm fairly positive that issue isn't ATI-specific.
How do I mod this out?
You can't.
They have, if memory serves, an 800 default soldiering. You're not invading, PERIOD, until you pick up tech for adv troop modules, minimum, even if you don't need the adv modules themselves. You'll get SQUASHED. (Which makes it funny when they show up a month into the game, but that's another story altogether.) Again, if you give them time, or if this happens to be on a gigantic map where you don't control everything yet and they're in a distant system, they can actually beco
There was a restriction put in a while back where the AI was very unwilling to trade away its economic treaty before I believe it was the third year. Some people have said they won't do it, period, but the simple fact of the matter is it's just horrendously expensive. In my experience, it's been in the realm of about 50k BC during the first year or two, and I have seen this increase at least as high as 70K fairly early on as well. Presumably the AI continues to increase its perceived
I was referring to Mega Events in DA. I would assume the reason the Terrans are set to Fool is because, starting out as a player-controlled race, they have no actual intelligence level. I'm fairly certain the DLs aren't set to fool unless you play the scenario on cakewalk.
This is about all there is in that vein, AFAIK: https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Dread_Lord_Strategy IIRC, one or two people have made a custom race designed to be the Dread Lords, and while I think they've done a good job on them, there's just nothing like having the DLs pop up in your current game...so long as they're far enough away from you that they get a chance to build up first. You might want to take a look at this: http://library.galciv2.com/index.aspx?m=273
Yes. Phasors I unlocks it (in DL & DA, at least).
It's real, it's 20k (sorry to echo you, Purge), and it applies as a racial "bonus"-of 20%, IIRC. You're getting 10 from Xeno Economics and 5 from Xeno Bank Construction, at a minimum. An economic resource or two grants you either 34 or 39 a piece (my memory's foggy on that one), and if you picked a race that had some inherently or spent racial points on it, you've got that too. Not to mention you can get up to 30% from governments alone. Point being, most games, you're probably looki
It's perfectly normal under the current system because the check against max hp does not occur until the repair cycle has taken place; so you can have a 9/10 HP ship repairing 3 HP/turn go to 12/10 HP before it stops repairing. As it's only, in essence, a bonus turn of repair over the max HP, it really doesn't seem that like big of a deal-as a note, the AI gets it as well, though it might not be so great about exploiting it. Personally, I would rather more important things be taken car
Many people have reported that in the last couple of days. Several people have mentioned speaking with the devs and have received assurances that it will be fixed in the next day or two-today, if I remember correctly, though as it's only 5:30am EST I wouldn't get your hopes up for being able to download it in the next couple of hours.
It's probably that they're gaining levels, particularly if your ships are a decent match, i.e. good experience. Elvis, that's something else-ships in orbit repair faster/more than ships not in orbit, but, as for population, the cap doesn't apply until after the growth/repair is done. So say you're at 7/8 hp, and you're in orbit, and you recover 3 hp. You don't cap at 8, you go to 10/8, and then stop repairing.

This is also happening with Terror Stars in the latest beta; after you use them, they ghost out until you move them. IIRC they lose themselves if you try to set an autopilot while they're ghosted and have no moves, but don't hold me to it-they're hard to find in that mode and I keep running into little crashy bugs. At first I actually thought it had been destroyed, and I was going to weep with joy, as I had suggested that not too long ago, but alas, it was not to be.
Frankly, as much as he dislikes not having complete control over his system (or what passes for it these days), I'm a little surprised he hasn't moved to Linux. My guess is he'd have difficulty digesting Wine and would feel tempted to code an equivalent himself, just so he'd know exactly what it was doing. While I do agree that roughly 80-90% of the default services in any Windows installation since 95 (at a minimum) should be disabled, if not removed, and can understand how you would
You can use [link="http://www.prnwatch.com/prio.html"]Prio[/link] to save the priorities you set for applications, in addition to adding a couple of other task manager enhancements. And I'd say the OOM is most common with multiple hours of gigantic games in one sitting. While it's annoying, it's far from a "killer" bug, in that instance.
I think AI should improve their star bases' usage, and especially equip military bases with more modules. Also they should learn to create fleets more activly and never hide so many ships on plants without orbital fleet managers, which will be easily slaughtered one after another.
Am I the only one who sees AIs who consistently build OFMs on ~80%+ of their planets? I keep seeing complaints about how the AI isn't using th
It's not a folder, it's in your registry. [link="http://files.filefront.com/Keyreg/;9530968;/fileinfo.html"]This[/link] will do it for you. Feel free to run it through however many virus scanners you feel is necessary, or even open it up in Notepad (via Open With); it's clean. Just make sure SDC is closed when you do it. Then open SDC back up and update. You may also want to ensure you're using the US-1 server.
I'm guessing you have tech trading on, you're playing with the Thalans and the Korx in the game, and/or as one of them, you've picked up CutThroat Competition and Hyperion Fabrication, you've gone neutral, and you previously got a planetary event in the colonization phase for 22%. I agree about the major unbalance, and if you'll notice, I did mention that InterestRate/PurchaseNowReduction does not appear to work in either DL or DA, which explains why no one has seen such a difference be
