The big disadvantage to using a database in this case is the amount of data that would have to be stored. Considering that there is close to 300000 users on wincustomize. Everytime a thread was read I would need to store two pieces of information. So thats two datafields for each thread for each user. That amount of data could add up quite quickly.

Just wondering if you have noticed anything different about the site? Small differences, but differences none the less. (Probably not because you are using skin browser). Anyway, just curious.
/me quietly sneaks out the back door hoping nobody notices.
The evelope icons uses cookies to track which messages you have read. Initially there was a new cookie being created for each message. Unfortunately with IE there is a 20 cookie limitation so I changed the cookies to create Sub Items under a single cookie. Yesterday I just completed some of the cookie changes (the skin library) to prevent this from happening. So hoepfully from here on out it shouldn't clear itself anymore (fingers crossed). <A HREF="https://www.wincustomize
Its a wincustomize bug. Big Bug. Going to take me some time to get it completely fixed.
Ok. Thats it, you all have to stop posting! I can't keep up with all the messages around here! Some of you are just going to have to leave. Go on, get out! <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/sb.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmiddle
craeonics - "3)also do not overemphasize the costs off this tool against its benifits" Its the other way around. You over emphasize the benifits that WinCustomize gives to Stardock. From the days of the Stardock Library to today with WinCustomize the Costs of running a skin library for Stardock has risen dramatically. But the sales have remained fairly constant. Yes, I'm sure Stardock gets some sales because of WinCustomize but no where enough to justify the cost that we are currentl
Crumbut, I accidently posted that under my test account. I just changed it to properly show it as me now.
Crumbit - "He gets paid more. and now the canvas guy owns a gallery. and He wants me to pay him to display my work? hehe" Hmm, are you suggesting that we charge Skin Authors to upload their work here? I don't think that would be a good idea. I'm not about to get tarred and feathered!
They don't understand simply because they don't want to. Too many people just want to cruise through life without putting forth any effort. To put forth effort is simply too much work.
It has been our plan to incorporate the Stardock News Groups (or a portion of) to Message Boards on a website for almost two years now. Unfortunately it keeps getting thrown on the back burner. We still hope to do it some day. Just don't know when though.
I'm not trying to say that because the skinners only represent 1% of the use base here that they should only get 1% of they say. Not by any means am I saying that. But what I am trying to say is that some of the skinners feel that the admins are completely ignoring the skinners wishes. And that is false. We are not ignoring you. Matter of fact we listen to your wishes all the time and quite often react on them. However, in the case of the rating system we have a big disagreement o
Hey Flibber, I don't know the exact details of the emails that were exchanged but I will say this. As a Stardock Employee we do try to answer all the emails and phone messages we get. Unfortunately we are human and sometimes email/messages get missed or are simply delayed. Our support person has already gone home for the day so I know that you will have to wait at least until tomorrow for a response. As far as your refund request...Our sales person called in sick today. I don't kn
Hmm, my office is right next to Brad. Maybe I should consider moving to the other side of the building next to Koop and Javabrain. Hmm, not sure if I like that deal either. Either way, I'm Screwed! Doreen, You better start reading the thread now. If you wait too much longer it will take over a week to read it.
I would like to make a comment about the rating system. First off, we have many discussion behinds the scenes about the rating system that none of you never see. We are not ignoring the skinners wishes and desires. We have been trying to come up with a solution that is happy ground for all. Now, in my opinion, there are 3 basic types of people who are here: 1) Admins 2) Skinners 3) Users Admins represent less than 1%</b
You need to turn on the option to have WindowBlinds run automatically on StartUp.
I'm not positive but the Skin Comments may not be implemented yet (for submission).
Lets see, most of the admins here are 30+ years of age. I'm sure that is good reason. Not the only one, but a good one.
Whew I'm 34. Just barely managed to slip under the wire. /me runs off to buy treetog a walker
Why do I have the feeling we''re going to be very busy around here!
Ok, I think I have solved the problem. To make sure the problem is fixed I recommended deleting your wincustomize cookie to clear out some bad outdated data. (after a period of time it will clean itself up though). But hopefully it should begin behaving much better now.
The poor email server works so hard!
Right now there is not a way to search globally through all libraries but I am sure thats a change we can make.
Thank you everyone who submitted debug info to me. I think the problem is solved. (fingers crossed). It appears that the main problem is that the script was timing out before the upload completed. I increased the timeout so hopefully everything should be working properly again. Let me know if there are still any issues.
Frustrating. I can't reproduce the problems to solve the problem. So I have turned on some debug messages. So if some of you kind skinners will try uploading again and send me the error messages it outputs I would appreciate it. (Note: Because of the debug messages everyone will get at least one error. please send them all to me anyway)
