I'd also like to see an offline version. Is this asking too much? By requesting this, are we removing some of the added value of the Collector's Edition? Thanks
Ummm....being a CE purchaser myself, I was just wondering that. :) the Monk

There are more players in other Lobbies. Unfortunately it is my understanding that as of right now we can't view a list of "available" lobbies (as they do seem to change) EG. You load into IC online and find yourself in LOBBY 2. You click change lobby and you type LOBBY 1 in the top. You'll now find yourself in LOBBY 1 where there may or may not be other people. I usually try LOBBIES 1 - 5 to see the rest of the people online. the Monk
I run it on XPx64, and the game works flawlessly. In my opinion XPx64 is best OS for gaming. Runs all of the games I currently play with no issues whatsoever. the Monk
... well ... some Strategist (at SD or IC) decided that ICO would use the P2P system ... and according to another Genius ( The Monk ), what happens then, is that the host only synkronizes data that is effectively processed (« simulated ») by each of the other participants... consequently ... the slowest comp & the most laggy connection in the ICO game drags down the flow of the P2P experience for everybody ... but what do i know about that, anyway ? ...
<
Ah, the choice to play or not to play. I enjoy this right. I exercise it all the time.I'm glad that the people who are apparently holding guns to people's heads, forcing them to play Sins, haven't appeared in my town yet.
:CONGRAT:
I hope they aren't wasted.
Without getting technical, it is my understanding that in order to get true multi-core usage of software (in most cases) would require a large re-write of the "coding languages" used to program said software, while excluding all systems that don't have multiple cores. Reality has a way of crushing hope..... :) the Monk
@ dracula7899 Firewalls, especially those SPI-type firewalls on some crappy cable/dsl modem/router combo's or soho routers (dlink, netgear, linksys, etc.) fragment game-data (especially for p2p connections). DISABLE them. Other firewall software (other than the Windows Firewall which works fine with SINS) also costs network transport "overhead" which means it will increase latency. Disable all (except for the windows firewall) firewall
For the record, I am running an Intel Core 2 Duo and like I said above, both cores are very busy during my entire play session.
For the record, my answer was taken directly from a dev post, so......unless he and I are mistaken....
Please contact me via xfire (the1monk) for my TS Server information. Seeing as you're at a college dorm (different colleges handle IT in sometimes very different ways) there may not be anything we can do. I am willing to try though, so if you contact me (and get TeamSpeak so that we can talk....I hate typing :) ) I'll see what we can do. thanks, the Monk
I cant seem to connect to either of the teamspeak servers... despite Multi being away. Im new to Sins so i would really like to find helpful people like you guys on VOIP.
Sorry, I try to have my TS Server online everyday for at least a few hours (the last few days I've been a tad distracted, by work.....lol). :) It is up right now, so anyone wanting to use it feel free while its up. If you need my TS Server info (and can't seem to find it on these forums..
Dude... ummm.... I respect your opinion and all that jive but.... YOU'RE OUT OF YOUR GOD DAMN MIND! HW2 > HW1... that's blasphemous!
:CONGRAT: Abso-f***ing-lutely! HW1 = greatest space story-driven game I ever touched. HWC = wicked "expansion" on the already deep HW lore. HW2 = should never have been made! (wow, what an epic letdown that POS was) the Monk
I could get a much better feel simply by dropping by and playing a game. Do you give out your TS addy before someone officially joins?Tea
Sent you a PM.
Thanks for the welcome. Do you actually have players active in SOASE besides yourself? There's no mention of it on the web page or in the forums.Tea
Yes we do (I believe 8 of us now). Pretty much every night. We haven't put up a SINS forum section yet, however under the "general spam" you'll find SINS as a "hot topic" :)
As far as I know, the only "multi-threading" SINS does is while it "pre-caches" textures, after that the entire sim is run single-core. I'm assuming this is so that SINS is able to entertain the "broadest" hardware market and not be exclusive to only the "power-rigs" favoured by mostly FPS-gamers. ;p the Monk
People, please make sure any/all "hardware" firewalls (on modems/routers) like "SPI" etc. are disabled. They're not much use on such puny hardware devices anyway and usually only serve to "fragment" game-data and increase latency. @ Iantis In case you haven't read my reply to you in the other thread I'll copy and paste it into here.
The HOST does nothing but "synchronize" the data between the clients. Every client runs the entire simulation on
@ Iantis The HOST does nothing but "synchronize" the data between the clients. Every client runs the entire simulation on their own machine, therefore the slowest machine in the mix will cause slowdown for everyone. the Monk
Probably most of them here do. We (Killer Instincts) certainly don't play any of the multiplayer games we play without voip. :D Check out the following thread I started about KI if you're interested. [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=410&aid=172642"]WWW Link[/link] We're definately older and casual in our approach. Feel free to stop by our forums and get a feel for the group. the Monk
I pre-ordered my CE on January 13th 2008 The Canada Post mailman brought my CE to my door today. Along with a $7.55 "customs charge" , he wouldn't even let me take the package from him until I handed him the exact change (first words out of his mouth after telling me about the charge were "and I don't make change".... ) :( Oh well I finally got it, I'm happy! the Monk
Um, you need to revise your guide because its confusing for networking illiterate people. Btw, Im having the same problem of not being able to host games, as is a buddy of mine. Kinda pissing us off, you guys need to patch it if anything, the gamers shouldnt have to go through all this BS and headache just to play a game with a friend.
@ Aurellious If you truly find my latest (inclusive of all information needed) guide Networking and SINS
No. My understanding is that the one serial supercedes the other. 1 purchase, 1 serial.
@Aegeta If (as seems to be the case) your "westell" is also a router and not just a cable/dsl modem you need to make sure of the following: two ports are forwarded to the correct internal IP TCP 6112 TCP 6000 You need to disable any "SPI" or other firewall on the Westell as it will only serve to "fragment" game-data packets. You need to make sure you have the SINS "exception" in the Windows Firewall, and ALL other security softwar
My server isn't always on either (I run it on a seperate box, but I don't run it 24/7), but generally speaking, if I'm online......so is my TS server.
Whenever I'm online, so is my TS Server! 24.78.232.135:8788 login as an anonymous user & the server pw = temp
So it doesn't hurt to check. the Monk
what if you cant run Sins as an admin? Its in some stupid "Games Explorer" folder. Can someone help me out?
If you right-click the shortcut in the start-menu and left-click "run as" you can run it as administrator. You're welcome. the Monk
1. Then you didn't buy/download it through Stardock? The manual.pdf is (I believe) right there in the game folder. 2. The manual explains the basic race difference as do countless threads on these forums. 3. No. This game is not about being "inside a movie" (so to speak). I'm betting such a thing will never happen. 4. No. Unless you count "discovering" an artifact on a planet of yours which gives you a certain bonus, or reaching "achievments
Please read my guide "Networking and SINS" linked-to from the "Technical FAQ". It explains everything, including security concerns. thanks, the Monk
