It's not fatal. SoGE has tons of them on boot and they don't crash the game.
Mine have always been fatal, so I only assumed they must be...there are a lot of different things that can cause that error though, and for me at least they have always resulted in CTDs... Since OP's errors aren't fatal and neither are SOGE's, Lavo probably can help you more than I can...

I will have to re-look at the planet textures I was working with...I compared normal .dds to DXT3, but like I said, I may not have tested it properly...I also did not use the dev.exe memory stats but rather task manager (I know it sounds sketch but I decided using something NOT put in the game may be a fairer way of analyzing)....

From a modding perspective, unlimited (or just a very large number) would be nice... I don't know the cap on the recent total war games but it is kind of cool that basically every province has a unique faction controlling it instead of the general "rebels"...strategy games have worked with very large amounts of factions all on the map at once...
Very odd, because the textures overlay for the dev exe clearly showed a reduction in texture memory usage, for BackdropInGame for example. In addition, I ran test case at the end of my dds pass (same game, same map, same conditions; 9 players, triumverte, all 6 factions present): for unmodded, the first 729 textures loaded took up exactly 814.37 MB, while for modded, the first 729 textures loaded took up exactly 735.00 MB.
What

I don't for sure remember the exact numbers, but IIRC using DXT3 cut down the file-size by a factor of 2 or 4 for planet textures (probably comparable for other textures too)...yet when in-game, the memory usage seemed unaffected regardless of how "zoomed in" you were on planets...I tried on maps with lots of planet

I have a map that I made in galaxyforge and it worked great in the 1.79 version. I added the graveyard and a comet to the same map. Game starts out great. I start doing some research and capturing some planets and it still works great. Once I start to battle it out with anyone the game comes to a crawl. Even after the battle the game doesn't recover. Benchmarks are usually crap...not uncommon for a computer to run well in the benchmark but not actually perform well in normal gameplay (and vice versa)... I'd be more in favor of real time stats...and I agree with OP, having easy access to that information is actually useful for an alpha or beta as it points to where improvements can be made... Sins is nice in that there is a dev.exe that gives certain information you otherwise would not have access to....it's a great

There tend to be 2 reasons why there is a limit on races: User interface -- this is the common issue for games with expansions...a UI is designed with the intent of supporting only so many races (in GC2's case, ten), and then an expansion comes along and adds more races -- now what? Changing the UI, while doable, can be a pain in the ass -- kind of an issue of diminishing returns... AI relations -- each race added increases the workload on the AI thought pro

The recent post thing "plagues" all of the SD forums...the devs have been inquired about it before and they have said that it is basically because "JoeUser and Wincustomize are important to all of us"...I don't want to put words in their mouth but that's what I got out of their response -- I'm sure one of them will correct/elaborate on my take....
Temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles within a given volume. It may not strictly speaking be defined by kinetic energy, but it is a measurement of it, and absolute zero is defined as the point at which the average kinetic energy of the particles in that volume is zero, which leads to the conclusion that the velocity of said particles is also zero.
You just really can't take a joke can you?</p
