Next time, play a lawyer race and sue the AI for cheating! If the game were too easy, you'd stop playing it. Just research the tech that will get you those worlds. On an immense map, it's going to take some time for anyone to find you. OR you can go to the map editor and create your own starting area and see how that works out. ENJOY!!!

Try editing their race next time you play with them in the game. Give them a bump in trade. There are always points left over in all of the AI races that can be used. Give it a try and let us know how it come out!
Yea, go assimilate some other thread!!!
Before you start your games, go and edit the races to give them some advantage in the areas you think they need it in. You can also edit the 'xml' files to give them more than the game can.
Use the "TALaunch" rather then the "Gal Civ 2 ToA" shortcut.
I do almost all my trading with the NPR's. They will always do well with your help and the other Racial AI's love to go after them.
Yea, wait till you get the tourism trade bonus event. I have 0% tax rate and am banking ~1000bc a turn! Talk about ruining a good game. I lost interest except that I'm going for the Ascension victory and figured I'd play with the Terror Stars. Found them to be pretty much usless other then for the PR!!!
Try it. You'll like it! The game has a different flavor to it.
While playing a game, I noticed that the game would freeze and the TURN button would never become active or highlighted. This happens when you give a terror star a move order to a location and it gets blocked. It will not go around or make any adjustments so the game sits there waiting for it to move. You have to move it manually out of the way of the obstruction (planet, ship, base). After moving the TS the game would return to regular movement and t
Next time you mod something, go into the file folder. Highlight the file/s your going to mod and make a copy of all of them. Never, never, never delete or rewrite the originals!!! Always use the copies to work on. Rename the originals with a .BAK extension and they will always be there for you when something goes wrong, kinda like this... Turn the mods 'off' and try to find the 'copy' file you made and replace the corrupt one.
They should be hidden as they are truly unique crystals and NOT regular resources! No road signs, neon lights or road maps... They ARE "Game Ending" elements!!!
I've also had CTD when trying to place a spy by clicking on planet and then hitting the "Spy" button. No error message but a CTD. It's happened more then once. There seems to be more problems related to the spy placement then any other problems I've had. The above happens quite often. I will post again if I can isolate the exact proceedure that causes this.
I've always found with tech trading is, whatever one AI has all the rest will have. It's like 8 vs 1 on the tech war. AI's freely trade tech among each other so that pretty much puts your research against ALL of the AIs reasearch. With tech stealing, I always find I have more stolen from me then I get.
You'll need to go to the game folder, then to the Twilight folder and create a shortcut to TALaunch.exe located there. You can also change it in the properties setting and set that as your target program.
Had this event last night in the game I'm currently running. The AI does not seem to know what this is. I have tech trades turned off so the AI was Outta Luck on this one. The Terran and myself are the only ones with the cure. All the other races planets are down below 1b execpt the homeworlds. Kinda ruins the game!!! Now, on top of that the Korath declares war on me and he couldn't even fill up a transport if he had one! You need to look into this one and change the way the cure is handled.
WHAT!!! Why even quit GC2, just never shut it off and then you'll never need anything else.
@Zyxpsilon that's so you can edit the color schemes of those races and the game will keep a copy of it in your directory for use in later games.
It would be nice to "what if" change AI races or 'tweek' your race.
I know what you mean. I think that you will have to edit the map file itself in something like notepad or word. I'm hoping that someone from stardock can answer this question as to what TO edit! You will probably have to define the race by name in the map file. I don't know if you would add it to the existing races at the beginning or if they should replace that specific race. Maybe by editing the race file itself to have the game recognize it as a 'game customized' race? That would probably be
I do not beleive that GC2 will let you export a map out of a game. It would be nice to be able to save a 'game generated map' when you get into a good game that you'd like to replay as a "what if."
You can add them (weapons and all) to your game in the map editor if you are starting a game from scratch. BEWARE, the maint. on them is ~75bc!!!
Generate your map. Click on a star and hit the delete key and the system (star and all planets) will be deleted. You can edit the planets in question and delete or add resources in the same way. Random generation is, after all, Random! It's still better then creating a whole map by placing each star and planet. I generate a map, play on it and then edit it to what I need.
I let the map editor randomly create a 8x8 map. In playing on it I noticed that a lot of the planet were "special" colonies (radiated, barren, etc.). It seemed like a more realistic galaxy then to have all these colonizable planet laying around. It does give the races capable of colonizing them a good advantage. Is there a way to change the backround in the map editor? I'd rather have a light grey or generally lighter color in the backround.
It's part of the game strategy, to make you feel your losing right out of the gate... Take it from me, if you ignore it you'll play a much better game. It's 'trash talk' mentality on the AI's part. ;)
Go into your GalCiv2 folder (where you installed the game to) and go into the Twight folder. Find the TALaunch.exe program and highlight it. Right click on it and use "create shortcut". Drag and drop the newly created shortcut onto your desktop and your set.
