Well I didn't think of it because the firewall lets me know whenever an application is trying to access the internet. It does this whenever a new internet-capable application is installed. In this case one application (OD) was trying to use another application (FF) to access the internet and the firewall apparently blocked this as a default action without warning me. Just goes to show, never take anything for granted :P
Hi Seabass, thanks for the hint. It was the firewall all along. It was setup to allow FF through but whenever OD launched it, the firewall figured that something was up and blocked it. Thanks for all the replies, appreciate it.
OK, I hadn't tried out IE before but it is having the same problem. Both FF and IE work fine if OD is not running. But if I launch them through OD, they can't access the internet. I tried all the options in the troubleshooting panel, i.e. enabled them and then restarted OD but they had no effect.
I tried that, making a direct shortcut to firefox.exe and also by dragging the shortcut of firefox from the windows start menu to OD. In all the cases, firefox starts up fine, it is when it tries to fetch a page, that it does not recognize that there is internet available. It seems to me that there is something in OD which is interfering with how firefox interacts with windows. Anyways thanks for the replies.
Just an update, I uninstalled OD, removed the folder, restarted and then re-installed OD again. Firefox still wouldn't see the internet connection.
The first time that you run od, there are a few docklets already there e.g My Computer, My Pictures, Internet, Email, Search Google, etc.
I have removed all the other docklets but have the same issue (quitting and restarting ObjectDock each time). As long as objectDock is running, any new instance of Firefox refuses to see the internet connectivity.
Well, initially it was using the default internet docklet that comes with ObjectDock. Firefox is my default so it picked that up. When this problem came up, I removed docklet and added manually but that didn't help. I have also tried clearing the cache but no effect
Hi, I just installed ObjectDock (free edition) on my XP. It is a cool program and seemed very good. I did miss the fact that I could not shutdown gtalk completely from the running programs list or check the status of my active network (because its not visible, I hid the windows taskbar, and it is not visible in the running programs list). However the biggest problem arose after a restart. Firefox insisted that there is no internet connection but the Internet is up and running
