if you played online you would notice that...no skilled player ever builds a kortul
Tell that to the guy who built about 7 the other day in a skilled game.
Agent of Karma....sorry i caused you to pop some blood vessels but i play online regurlary and many,,,many players (including very skilled ones) begin with a 2cap start, and have a third by midgame.
Of course they do. I never said otherwise. I just said that caps cannot perf
and agent of karma....caps are more powerfull now and used more now in MP than ever before in this games history. most players (incuding me) will have 2-3 caps by midgame and 5-7 by late game. most players go 2 caps start at the begginning because they are so powerfull....when is the last time u played a game online against competent players??? lol
Uh... who the hell are you? I've got more than 1000 games online. I've never seen you online, as far as I know.
Apparently you never played 1.00 vanilla...
I absolutely played it, the first day it was out. Online, no less. I've been here from the very beginning.
It had no target cap and propogated 70% of damage. That sort of thing annihilated enemy fleets.
Sounds somewhat OP. Especially the words "70% of damage" and "annihilated enemy fleets." I mean, additional 70% is almost double the damage of your fleet.
@Joe: Agent is the local.. Cynic..
Hey! I resemble that! Nah, seriously, I'm not calling him an idiot. Actually, I stated that I suspected he was making a catastrophic, yet easy-to-fix error (like not upgrading planets, or not realizing there was a black market, etc). I also came back later and left a detailed post on how to win.

I don't have a replay handy, but I will give you a set of instructions. As John Connor said in The Teriminator, "Do what I say! Do exactly what I say! Don't make a move unless I say! Don't make a sound unless I say! Do you understand? DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!?" Follow these instructions and you will win. Note that these are not instructions on how to enjoy the game - you can figure out how to do that on your own later. These are simply instru

I think there is a confluence of factors that combine to make lrf so strong and prevailant. First is what others have pointed out - the lrf just deals way more damage than other unit types. Second, they either counter, or hard-counter, relatively many units. Third, I don't think there are many good options for countering them. Carrier cruisers for fighters are quite expensive, and easily counterable by much cheaper, more spammable flak. Flak itself isn't a

The first game of Sins I ever played, I beat normal AI easily like it was a piece of cake. I can't help but think you are setting the difficulty too high (unfair will slaughter a newb), and setting the speed too high so that the AI gets more of an advantage (you are clicking and thinking in "normal time" while the AI is clicking and thinking in "fast time"). Play a SMALL map, play with pirates off, play with normal difficulty, play with normal (or slower) speed settings. Y
Is another ship type really needed though? ... Rebuffing scouts to the 1.4 Arcova level (Visari model may need a slightly higher cost due to the capture ability) would solve a lot of frigate related balance issues.
I didn't like buffed scouts because you could play the entire game without teching up. Indeed, if you had a player spamming nothing but scouts and lf, you were forced never to tech up. Those two tier 0 units countered practically every

Are you playing against an unfair AI? I can see a newb getting crushed against an unfair AI like you describe, but I crushed the AI on normal difficulty on my very first game of Sins, without even knowing what I was doing. My guess is you have the difficulty bumped up to unfair or more? Make sure you tone it down to normal until you know what you are doing. And turn pirates off.
@Agent: In sins, everything hits everything (aside from SC) every time. Do you see a problem here? Firing 300 of anything at anything ought to annihilate that target, but you seem to think otherwise.
Then we simply have a fundamental disagreement on this issue, and will have to agree to disagree. I think that capships ought to fulfill their role, which is impossible with the mechanics you advocate. I can answer the question of this thread, "the pri
as well as any proposed Egg colony buff
I think the egg's superior attacking capabilities (nano-dissassem) can justify it not being an economic-powerhouse like akkan or mothership. But I'd certainly buff the build rate buff on its colonization - the current numbers on it are ridiculous. But either rate, adjustments to this cap should take an extreme low priority.
If they are separate, why have them? If you put them off in their own little world, what good are they going to do?
The "good they are going to do" is support the fleet... isn't that obvious? Perhaps you think "support the fleet" means add raw firepower? No. It means being able to Shield Recharge your fleet with an Advent Mothership while 2 fleets duke it out, it means being able to Repair Cloud with a Skirantra in the heat of battle, etc. It
We have a three-fold problem with capital ship survivability.
A good summary of the bottom-line issues.
Perhaps you might be able to just knock down the damage multiplier LRF get on capital ships, so that LRF go from being a good unit against capital ships to a bad unit against them
I thought of this too, but it would need to be extended to bombers and HC as well.
This thread is designed to fix 2, not 1.
Understood. But I'd like to relate my most recent experience (which happened today), if I might be allowed? This seems like the most appropriate place, rather than starting an entirely new thread? Got online and played against what ended up being a pure lrm spammer. Even before I realized he was an lrm spammer, I purposefully got the colonization cap as my first and only cap, with the pure intent of keep
True, you can, but I don't want to see spamming of level six abilities. Those need to be hard to get so I'm not terribly fond of the exp bonus. I want ships to earn it, not get it easily...
Not that I'm necessarily against "having to earn it" per say (if people consider this a critical gameplay element), but I'm also not against NOT having to earn it. "Having to earn it" is a tactical mechanic. Buying experience late game when funds are available would be
I said it would ruin the feel of the game because of common sense...
You said "common sense" within the context of a futuristic sci fi game? LOL, let's see how far you can actually get with this.
Want another example? Let's look at WWII battleships.
Uh... the correct example would be one of the Star Destroyers out of Star Wars. There can be hundreds of frigates and strikecraft buzzing around them, but they essentially shrug i

Ah, you are suggesting that you keep changing the capital planet back and forth. Interesting. The bottom line is, it's viable if you can profit from it, and it isn't if you can't. You'd have to make more in income from the new peak than you pay to switch. Do some tests and report back.
If they are too powerful, then it ruins the feel of the game

How so?

Isn't that obvious? Look a seige frigates; no one builds them because caps do it better.
No one builds them because they were nerfed into oblvion long ago because they were extremely OP. When Sins first released, it wasn't Sins of a Solar Empire. It was Siege Frigates of a Solar Empire. A consensus was never reached by anyone on what to
I understand your point, but this game is designed around frigates.
Then caps cannot support the fleet, and in fact don't support the fleet, so people should stop repeating this old chestnut. The role of caps is therefore colonizing and bombing planets. Period. Thanks for clearing this up.
Anyhow, I think if you want to buff Caps in gerneral stats are the easiest and safest way to go. Trying to justifly their low survivablitly by buffing
