Actually a reskin is when you take original models and just change textures. As soon as you replace the 3D assets it can no longer be called "just a reskin". Along similar lines, a total conversion does not necessarily require new gameplay mechanics. For example, a Star Trek or Star Wars mod will keep the original gameplay pretty much as it is, while completely replacing the ingame visual, sound and other assets, thus qualifying for a "total conversion" as in turning the game into som

Keep in mind that if you are running Sins in fullscreen, the error popup sometimes appears "behind" the window the game is running in. Alt-tabbing reveals it, otherwise it looks like the game stalled. And usually if you do something wrong in the .entity files, you get a minidump. Logic loops are very rare, and personally I've never had them and I've broken the game a gazillion times during my modmaking. :)

Due to the RL constraints I am now placing absolute priority on the Last Stand mod, so any minimods that I have released (namely DBS and the Volumetric mod) will have to take a back seat. Since their development is part of the Last Stand mod, you can certainly expect standalone versions to be updated if not before then with the release of the Last Stand (if for some reason you're crazy enough not to want to download that piece of awesomeness :p )

Comfirming that I, and the mod, are still alive. Its just that when you have paying work to do on top of passing a truckload of exams, your mod-time tends to shrink. I resumed work on the mod though, and there should be a juicy update coming out soon. Hopefully I'll even be able to announce a release date soon, but lets just excersize patience with that one for little longer.

Check this out, courtesy of Ubisoft: http://support.uk.ubi.com/online-services-platform/ Long story short - you need a permanent internet connection in order to play a single player game. No, not like Steam, where you have an Offline mode. If you lose the connection to the internet, your game pauses, and if it can't reconnect you have to wait to reestablish connection and load up your last save game. Meani

[quote]The fact that you used the word "he" is part of the problem. You want to the strategy field to be so narrow that you want to exclude titles that are strategic but not what you enjoy. Still, I am the one, if you bothered to read what I wrote, that said there isn't a great category for the Sims series. Which means, drum roll, that I don't think strategy is a perfect place for it. Compared to simulators, yeah I think strategy is a better choice. Tetris would be more like a puzzle game but

So in your opinion Sims belong in the same category as Europa Universalis, Hearts of Iron series or similar? I find that a bit strange. In fact, I would go as far as to suggest that the Sims series are about the last thing on the mind of an average strategy game enthusiast when he's thinking which game he should buy next. So I doubt that chucking it in the strategy bin will help gamers choose wisely. And if "planning ahead" is the main requirement for calling a title a "strategy game"

[quote who="Nesrie" reply="21" id="2499953"] Well then the sim city and cities xl would need to shift to simulators too, maybe even some of the city builders as they are simulating cities. What about the racing games, those are simulating car races. I mean if the only thing a game needs to do to get put in the simulation section is simulate something, we need to reclassify a ton of games, not just a handful, anything that simulates a job, simluates delivering papers, simulate

Social Simulator... essentially they are simulators. As in, they simulate something specific, people's lives in this case. They are not a strategy game (and neither are games like C&C because they deal with a battlefield on a tactical level, not strategic). There are a lot of titles which have been poorly typified. In the case of Sims, I don't see why they shouldn't be classified next to a flight simulator. The essential premise of both is the same, to simulate (i
