Depends. Usually with rendered images you use some sort of compositing software, like Nuke or After Effects, or in case of XSI you can even use its built-in compositor. Of course, for single images Photoshop is also an option. Specifically, its done by applying a lens flare effect (usually there are plugins for that) on a separate composition layer, then setting the blending mode to Screen or similar and adjusting the effect so it looks how you want.

Looks like a composite of rendered models (turret shadows are a giveaway), some lens flares + bloom, a background image and what looks like a flat overlay for atmospherics + maybe some photoshoping for the light rays. Personally I would use volumetric lights for a similar but much more 3D effect. A very nice image though. And am I right? :p
WRT Star Wars and science fiction, the proper description of it is actually "science fantasy", because it uses many fantasy-styled plot elements and stylizations, but has a very much scifi-esque setting. Warhammer 40,000 is another example of science fantasy, only awesomer because of chainswords and flying space cathedrals. WRT SWvsST debating, the idea isn't "SW beats of ST", it's actually that of a mental exercise and
Errr......about the Mod. @Manshooter, how do i prevent the ships from going out of the planets gravity well and how do I prevent the ships from bumping into each other? I'm setting everything below Capitalship to use the fighter movements. Theo
You have to tweak their turn speed values. The reason why some ships end up in an infinite chase out of the gravity well is because they get locked in a tail-chase loop, where one sh

Looks a bit more complicated to me than that. In fact I'd bet it was more like three spheres, two images and a at least one gradient based shader. ;) Or maybe not the last one, on a closer look there's no atmospheric opacity distance faloff. I just wanted to comment because its a pretty good piece of work as far as CGI planets go.

Well, Star Trek is not science fiction either. As in, science fiction is extrapolation of existing science to create visions of future science. Star Trek, much like Star Wars, pulls a lot of stuff out of its proverbial arse. And likes to ignore Newtonian physics. You want science fiction, go watch Odyssey 2001. You want shiney space pew pew, either Star Trek or Star Wars will do, depending whether you want your dose of science fantasy flavored with inverse polaron beams or anc

Well now, it IS a well known fact that Stormtroopers can't shoot worth a damn. It must be those helmets. Also, any Star Trek captain worth his salt could easily detonate Imperial ships and especially stations by creating feedback loops in the primary reactor power control via directed beams of theta particles. In fact, they wouldn't even need a proton torpedo and a small thermal exhaust port.

Guys, guys... don't fight. Star Trek have transporters and can teleport assault teams directly on the bridge of a SSD and phaz0r Darth Vader inna face. But Star Wars have hyperdrives and could be "on the other side of the galaxy by now". For example glassing Earth while that assault team finds out whether lightsabers can deflect phaser beams or not. So it evens out in the end. ... Bah, who am I kidding, Earth gets glassed, Darth Vader chokes the red

The executable DOES NOT need to be put into the game folder. In fact, I highly recommend you put it elsewhere, as placing files in your game folder and working on them can easily lead to you messing up your installation. Instead, copy the runtime files from your game folder into a separate folder you have particle forge in. That way you keep your modding files and your game file structure nicely separate, which is always a healthy practice, as Stant123 suggested anyway. :)

@YourzZzZ What you see in the video are the improved weapon effects from Bailknight's Effects mod, which is incorporated into the Invasion. Of course, the Xin have equally impressive looking array of weapon effects, its just that you will have to wait for the pre-launch combat and gameplay trailers to see them in full. In addition, Invasion will sport improved volumetric explosion effects, which add a lot to the feeling of overall carnage of space battles. As for n

What he said. Also, if you have open meshes, pay attention to the Tolerance slider so that only the closest vertices weld together, otherwise it can mess up your new mesh. An alternative way is to, after you have merged your meshes, go to the scene explorer (8) and hide the old meshes. That way you can still go back and work on them separately if necessary and you still have their history preserved if you need it.

Also, here is a background lore update for the Scout, Siege and Assault Drones. Enjoy! SCOUT, ASSAULT AND SIEGE DRONES Drones in general are approximately the size of frigate ships; they have no crew and posess, like all Xin ships, a degree of sentience, enabling them to operate semi-independently, make autonomous decisions and also obey complex orders or follow tactics at least on the level of c

None taken, DoV is a high quality piece of work to which I don't mind losing some noise. Of course, I haven't yet started with proper trailers and updates, so its not over yet. ;) To answer your question G_Bison, there will be spotlight videos coming soon for all frigates, cruisers and capitals (and more) and there is going to be plenty of action footage in those!

Cojones. :p No, those are energy emission globules. Bigger Xin ships use them as a form of communications device, especially to coordinate their own combat drones (different and smaller than assault drone frigate analogs) and some ships can even use them as a makeshift point-defense weapon.
