My new favourite TEC Capital ship. The income it saves / earns you early on taking neutral planets is excellent. Wipe out Siege Frigates, take planet (and start developing it) while the Akkan and its supports finish clearing. If its a tough planet you can quickly throw up a repair platform to help your fledgling clearer fleet finish the job. Later, when it's time to invade enemy planets I'll add a Sova to the same fleet to help crack them. Ion Bolt will stop enemy Cap Ships fleeing (a
Could be a Danish only thing maybe? I know they woldn't be allowed to apply it to EU countries but there'd be no law on them applying it to the US.Also I've bought games only as downloads from the US, anything physical has been clothes and the like. So maybe I'm just getting away with it due to clothes being classed as "essentials" and CDs etc as Luxary items?Reading further into this and as far as i can understand some countries in the EU does not pay the tax.But im not quiet sure how th
i havent payed the $45 tax yet, so the package is still at the post office. On the paper i got says toldopkrævning which translate to "duty/tariff/customs duty" which is a percentage tax of what its worth + delivery + told + moms(25%) on anything brought outside the EU.According to the danish wiki all have to pay the tax when buying outside the EU.So how jonfon was able to avoid it, i dunno.
Could be a Danish only thing maybe?
The taxes is charge more or less wether its electronics and such... i think... EU is wierd
There is no EU Tax for buying US Items. I do it all the time quite happily with clothes. Each EU country has its own tax systems so I don't even see how this would work. Its quite possible that Denmark has an import tax of its own I suppose but Ireland certainly doesn't.
Weird, I bought the digital version and a load of US Tee-shirts this week from the US and there's no $45 dollar EU tax included, I've confirmed by checking the charges to my Credit Card. I'm in lreland
When I search for "Sins of a Solar Empire" on Play.com I get nothing back. I didn't think there was a European release yet. I looked at ordering the retail version via the Stardock website but the 80 euro put me off too. Oddly though 40 of that was Postage and Packaging, not any EU tax. In any case I just got the digital version instead and it worked like a dream. Ended up costing me €31.88 altogether and was downloaded installed within an hour.
"Fighters" and "Interceptors" seem to be used inchangeably a bit but as far as I know "Fighters" means any wee ships that spew forth from carriers (so Capital Ship bonuses which affect Fighters affect both Interceptors and bombers). I noticed "Interceptor" being used in a TEC single player game I was playing yesterday. Interceptors are the anti-light armour & fighter ones, bombers are the anti heavy ships & structure ones. Generally when you hover over something in the Tech Tree its fai
Looking forward to this mod, should be great. I won't even mention the B-word But strippers sound good. As long as they aren't Ferengi strippers :) The idea of one sector sized star map sounds great too, but I've a feeling its going to cost me a lot of sleep when it comes out (damn you). In terms of planet invasions rather than bombardment a quick-and-dirty may might be to allow those races who like to invade (Klingons and Dominion I suppose since they like h
I just downloaded & installed the digital version about 2 weeks ago (I'm in Ireland). Took about an hour in total to download and install over a 3Mb line.
I don't think I used the word "devastating" once :p I agree with the IGN review there, my primary reasons for wanting one are exactly what they mention, replacing the crappy tutorials & giving a sense of identity to the races (especially the TEC who seem a bit of a bog-standard blend of "Generic Futuristic Humans in Space").
Because these are the sort of gamers a game this good should be appealing to? I'm not saying its necessary. But it'd go a good way to explaining a lot of the fairly subtlities of the game to the more casual gamer who is trying to get into this. Its called cross market appeal. Rather than just getting the hard-core who are going to buy this anyway and pore through the forums to see how things like Armour, Culture and Extractors work (top of my head examples), it makes sense for
The nice thing with a Campaign mode, especially a well written & scripted one, is that it helps to get people in who might be scared by the almost vertical learning curve of the Skirmish mode. The tutorials are a bit forced : "This is a tutorial", they lack any real character. If you want to get fresh people playing a 4X / RTS hybrid chances are you want to tap into the pool of RTS players, especially the more casual ones who are coming from a C&C or Dawn of War PoV. There's m
