p.s. there won't be any AI changes in 1.03 - this will be primarily a bug fixing patch.
Completely untrue. The devs have posted their list of top priorities for 1.3 more than once, and that list is always headed by "greatly improved AI", "AI replacing dropped players in MP", and "AI surrendering intelligently". On-topic, for me, the primary thing that's wrong with the diplomacy system isn't the mechanic (although that's pretty darned flawed), but the feel o

I just posted on this subject in a different forum, so I'll just quote myself, here:
When you select more than one ship, note that one of them will be the "primary selection", and have a slightly brighter selection square around its icon. If you hit TAB, the primary selection will cycle through all of the ships you have selected. If you form a fleet from your selection, the primary selected ship will be the flagship. The way I usually do it is just to select the ship
It looks like the uppermost ship gets the captain position when grouping. There should be a way to designate the main ship other than moving him to the top of the screen...
There is already a way to do this. When you select more than one ship, note that one of them will be the "primary selection", and have a slightly brighter selection square around its icon. If you hit TAB, the primary selection will cycle through all of the ships you have selecte
For the record, I LOVE the auto-lock-on feature, but it's always nice to have choices.
ST:TNG's Enterprise has a combined crew/passenger capacity of 1014. No, I'm not a Star Trek geek, but I am a professional modeler, and some of my designs are flying around in the Star Trek universe. The "capitol ships" in this game fit the bill just fine. No reason to go trying to rename things to fit an entirely arbitrary naming convention without knowing the principles on which such a thing should be based.
Very, VERY nice work. I look forward to downloading it. ... My game of Sins is going to look kind of boring, after seeing this. ^_^ Now if someone would make the guns sound more impressive, as well.
Anyone have a screenshot, for those of us who weren't in the beta?
Please stop what you are doing!
? I found it useful information.
I have 10 . . . I dunno. Let's say "Flak Frigates." Or fighter squadrons. My opponent has 10 LRMs. I've enabled stacking in my empire tree, so both my force and my opponent's force take up one icon each. I click my "10 Flak Frigates" icon on the empire tree, and right-click on my opponent's "10 LRM" icon. Do my 10 flak frigates split their fire among the closest available LRMs? Or do all 10 flak frigates focus-fire one of the LRMs, and then do something else when it event
Well, about the research. You need 4 Civilian Stations to research the ability to colonise Oceanic worlds. I did this because (and this answers your second point) the Civilian slots can be upgraded to 40, giving it one more orbital structure than the Desert worlds, and 36 Tactical slots, just one more slot than a Desert world. However, to get the very last Tactical slot (you have to upgrade from 35), you will need to pay a bit, but as most of you already know, 36 is a special number. All o
Those "occasional scouts that come in to range" have crews aboard. Your potential allies don't really like you killing folks, you know? ^_^ Anyway, that's what's doing it. It's very hard to avoid, but if you want an alliance, you need to hold your fire on those scouts.
Max pop of 60 actually gives it a lower population than volcanic (70), which is reasonable, since you have to research special colonizing methods for volcanic worlds, while you can presumably colonize these new oceanic worlds with no special research. It's WAY lower than terran and desert worlds, which have populations of 190-280. So can you tell us the maximum Civilian and Tactical slots, for comparison, please? Really cool work, by the way! I missed this type of plan
Not that Sins is really an RTS, but I HATE campaigns in RTSs. There's nothing that annoys me more than buying a new game and having to slog through twenty-some missions before you're allowed to touch whatever passes for a super-groovy weapon. I believe it was good ol' Warcraft 1 that taught me to hate... "Oh, look, I can use dragons now! That'd be pretty neat if the game wasn't already OVER." Just give me the research tree and let me go, please.
It can't be toggled in-game(yet...) It's in the entity files for every ship. The line is I think PreferstoFocusFire. By default it was set to TRUE for all ships. I simply changed the value to FALSE.However your question does add another thing to my to-do list for V2. I think the AI players will still have their ships focus fire at times when appropriate like to take down a capital ship.
Thanks for the info!
I'm intrigued by the bit about turning off auto-focus-fire, since I didn't even know there was such a thing. Can this be toggled manually, in-game? Does the AI always have it on?
Wow, HuntingX. I've read two of your threads in one day, and although they haven't given me any new information about the game, they've convinced me that you're an arrogant elitist. I'd post some on-topic information, but I'm quite certain I'm not smart or skilled enough to contribute anything useful. When I grow up, I hope to be as good an RTS player as you.
Thanks, kryo! The music is great!
Noooo... he's too old. Like Jackie Chan.
Jackie Chan is NOT too old! For ANYTHING!!!
There already is a slider, in the in-game map maker, at least. Phase Lane Length seems to say how far away two planets can be and still be linked by lanes. Crank it up, and the map becomes a web of interconnecting phase lanes. Move it down, and you'll get planets connected to each other in straight, simple lines.
I've got the digital download (CE) version of the game, but my computer died the other day (thank you tornado!) and I'm stuck waiting on a shiny new replacement. I'd love to listen to the soundtrack while I wait, but this computer is far too old to install the actual game. Is there a way to get to the music download page without having the "update" button to click on, or do I just have to wait?
Well, to play Devil's Advocate, when I read a game review I prefer that the game itself gets reviewed, not its publisher
Good, ongoing support and patches IS an important part of the game. Lack of annoying, invasive copy protection doesn't have anything to do with the publisher, e
Random elements in strategy games really suck.
And 4X games without them really do, too. Now, which one is Sins, again? ^_^
Homeworld: Cataclysm was done by the team who did Sins of a Solar Empire and is the strongest in my opinion. Homeworld 2 will be less boring to a player looking at it as a vintage product but it doesn't have any of the revolutionary qualities of Homeworld 1, or the polish of Homeworld: Cataclysm. It was a very generic sequel.
You've got to be kidding me. Homeworld is on my list of all-time favorite games, and Homeworld
Under the Logistics research tree.
I'm assuming that turning down the game speed adjusts the speed of ALL game elements, so how would research speed compare if you turned the game speed down and the research speed up? Would your research complete faster or slower than on normal/normal?
