If McCain/Bush get their 100 years in Iraq, no, our superpower status will be slowly but surely sapped by useless wars. Everyone else is making civic research stations and trade structures, but we keep making carriers thinking we will convince other people to love us by a show of force. Decades of Republican leadership has destroyed the New Deal economic structures that made us the superpower we are. Medicare (Bush turned it into a big pharma subsidy), social security, food s

Free speech does not equal scientific method. They are different things. If you believe in free speech, then you are permitted to say anything you want, independent of evidence. If you believe in the scientific method, then you only accept as "factual" what is backed up by evidence. Free speech is not a justification for teaching intelligent design as science, because intelligent design has zero evidence to back it up. Free speech is justification for Ben Stein to be able to make a movie th

I would have turrets and more firing arcs that mattered. I would add a strategic difference between ships that fire on the move and ships that have to hold still to fire. I would have variable armor strength depending whether a ship is hit on front or back. I would have variable AI settings for ships, usually 2 per ship. Such as: Fire at max range. Flank to hit weaker side. I would add more strike craft options. Interceptors (long range, hi

How about research choices? Instead of the whole research tree being available, make only portions. Such as: Mercenary lasers - -20% Range -5% Hit +10% Damage Scientist lasers - +5% re-fire +5% range Make the player make tough choices about research. This will allow research build strategies that orient your fleet towards certain goals. Like, building a high shield regen short range DPS fleet, or building a high speed high range fleet.

Why not just make this a micro add on? You know carriers? They can choose fighter or bomber now right? Well, add 3 more choices. Let carriers make gundams, and put carriers lower in tech tree. Then add a bigger carrier with access to really powerful gundams a little higher on the tech tree. Then just use in game races for all the other units. All gundams are added as strike craft additions to the current gameplay. Gundams are slower than fighters, but have the best

Good idea regicide. What if they had siege mode? Siege ships when moving take the same damage they take now. But they move to planet, and divert power to mitigation. Thus, when siegeing, siege ships are much tougher. That would make them worth their cost, but still counter able by fighter runs as they approach a planet.

Tactics in this game is about timing on spell casting, timing on retreating capital ships, and getting your lights onto their carriers and your CA onto their LRM. I think that is sufficient. It isn't quite WarIII, but micro does get your somewhere with particular abilities. Dunov stands out in my mind.

[quote]Good changes, I agree a little with Innociv that LRM's shouldn't be so versatile, and the speed decrease is probably just going to be annoying, but think about it.One thing I must say before I go on to things I like: Flak now do even less damage to fighters, bombers, and long range frigates. Advent flaks have higher cost. I'm afraid there might be no incentive to buy them now, but I'll see. However, with the speed decrease in long range frigates means that they can't chase carriers aroun

Sry to spam, but why the anti verylight damage v. light nerf? Fighters were owning lights too much? I mean, fighters were almost a counter to LRM spam, and defense vessels were viable tanks against LRM spam. Everyone whines about LRM spam, but then you weaken the counter? By reducing anti very light performance you make fighters and defense vessels less viable overall, but who was complaining about defense vessel and fighter spam? Talk about two easily countered units. Fighters and defense

I don't understand hit rates. What does the Akkan +hit% aura affect? Only when things are shooting at fighters? But only Flaks / Fighters can even shoot at strike craft. What the heck is the point of a +hit% aura?

Please take a harder look at the supply costs on siege frigates. There is zero reason to build 3 siege frigates when it only costs twice as much to build a 50 supply siege capital ship. High cost, low survivability is fine, but 15 supply makes them pointless until you hit 10 planet economy.

Bandbox targeting is a MUST for 1.04 or 1.1. Critical update to make the game play properly. I can't believe they don't have it considering they added explicit anti focus fire stuff like shield mitigation.

WTF is wrong with you siege whiners? Have you not discovered the wonder that is 2 turrets or 2 hangars in defense? I mean jeez. The AI is gimp now because siege frigates eat 15 supply and die like guppies next to sharks. FIGHTERS >> SIEGE. The siege frigate is now NEVER worth building compared to just paying for a siege capital ship.

I find carriers to be great I know I have an economic advantage. They aren't as economically effective as Kodiak's. The math and survivability back this up. Carriers are also easier to counter. BUT ... Let's say I just researched a fresh supply level, I am a little behind against the enemy on ships, if I drop all my supply into carriers, the advantage is insurmountable. They turn a winning player into a crushing player because bombers can kill so much before the fight starts. In

Up front, I love this game. If I wasn't going into the last month of 1L year at law school, I would have it installed right now. But if you guys are thinking expansion pack stuff, please add branching tech trees. Force us to make hard choices about what techs we want, and then buff all the techs. Make us want all of them, but only get half. Then make them powerful and meaningful. Techs right now are good, but I want them all and am only limited by cash on hand. For example, take

I hit the "S" button, for stop. The AI will usually spread out its fire after that. If not, I hold shift and sequentially focus fire (good for siege frigate raids).

In the Homeworld series you could hold CTRL and draw a box around units you want shot at. Example: 12 LRM 12 Disciples I select 12 LRM. I hold CTRL. I draw a box over 4 Disciples. Then the 12 LRM divide their fire so that each of the 4 Disciples get 3 LRMs shooting at them. Given the mechanics of shield mitigation Band Box targeting would be great. So, when are we getting Band Box Targeting?

[quote]Slow kill ratio along with useless PJIs makes impossible to defend anything. - Simply because fleets can fly right to core systems practically unharrassed. This creates the situation where you can simply spam siege frigs in large quantities and win just by destroying worlds one by one. I found after a while that the fastest way to win is siege frig spam due to this feature. I tried various apporaches but siege frig spam seem superior to anything else- once you g

How about a remodel on the Kodiak's main gun turret? The big one on the top? That thing looks ridiculous. It looks like a big turret, but it isn't! It is a fixed gun! I think a longer, fixed weapon, along the whole dorsal region of the ship would look cooler. Kinda like a shoulder mounted cannon instead of a WWII German Tank turret.
