A RT4x game on a console?   People can barely play RTS games on consoles as it is right now. Every console RTS fails. I can't even fathom an RT4x being on a console. I think we can all agree that certain genres play better on PC and certain genres play better on consoles. There's some that cross platforms, but RTS games and certainly RT4x games are not them. I exclusively play PC games, but the above comment is solely based on sales data. No matter how elaborate the mark

Advent, because they have the most varied number of effective strategic maneuvers of all the races and their top capital ship experience bonus tech is useful all the time.
Have any of you actually done real DirectX or OpenGL development work on 3d interactive applications? (could be a game, could be a tech demo, or could be an educational project) I'm just wondering because I get the feeling I'm the only one here that has.
Dudes, would someone address the fighter heavy idea? A small number of flaks (25 or so) would not take out 60+ fighters...
Have you been playing against the unfair AI too? The AI in Sins, particularly on the Advent side, loves to have lots of carrier cruisers. I definitely agree with what you're saying. Fighters respawn for free after a short period of time. If you're running around with a high level Sova, then they can respawn instantly when abilities are used. The less m
CommanderAdama Wow i'm glad we have idiots to cheer idiots on...Repulse, in its current form, IS NOT a winning ability. IT IS A STALLING ABILITY. A player can stall indefinitely with repulse, making the game come to a grinding halt. Anyone who argues otherwise has obviously never seen it abused. Let me be crystal clear here: IF YOU DON'T THINK REPEL NEEDS REWORKING, YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN IT BEING USED PROPERLY (IMPROPERLY). I think if AOE was decreased to allow all LRMs to reach
If this game is so good, why isn't it released for Ubuntu or Linux in general? Hello stardock. Can you please release this game for Linux? Thanks!
Would I love games like this to be on Linux? Hell yeah! I'm a big Linux fan. The only time there's a need to run something other than Linux is when something isn't compatible with it. Unfortunately, in the world of games that tends to happen almost all the time, and it also tends to pop up elsewhere when it comes to deploying
If nothing else, its nice of you to give him strategy advice to help him to beat you. With any RTS, there are 100's of strategies that can be employed. Limiting yourself to one, or one unit, etc is the mark of bad tactics, and frankly, a bad game. I'm happy that there is no one way to win. As with any ship, strike craft do have their uses (that I've seen so far, I'm still fairly new). You should always work to combine forces because every RTS (hell, TBS for that matter) is a game of rock
HuntingX Man, you're even worse than Ron.Of course, I won't bother challenging you to play a game, because you'll just dodge as you "don't play multiplayer.
I've had enough of people like you who sit in matches and whine that I'm not playing the game the way you think I should be playing, whine that I'm using a 'cheap' or 'unfair' or 'unbalanced' strategy, or complain because I'm 'exploiting' a built in asset to my team, such as the Guardian's repulsion ability. People l
You people are just now realizing the full power of the Advent. I cringe when I see people whine about Advent not being powerful enough these past few months, and now I cringe seeing people whine about how the most useful Advent ship is overpowered. Literally overnight the Advent went from being terrible to being the most powerful faction in the game. The guardian should not be changed. TEC gets their robotics cruisers and Advent gets their guardians. Advent ships, on a whole, are slightly weake
Someone has a huge problem with clanners, or clans are getting out of control. At least they're not running around trying to 'close the pool'. It seems to me that this place has been overrun with clanners and someone has turned into a vigilante. It may also be related to the DOS attacks weeks ago or someone wanting to stir up drama with the easiest people to stir up (clanners). You can ban and block people like this all day long, but they will get through somehow, someway--they always do. <b
I've had this happen a couple of times too in larger games. What seems to happen is that an enemy ship of some sort, normally a light frigate, comes into a defense fleet's gravity well to scout it out rather than sending the actual scout frigate. They target the hostile ship, it jumps away, and then they pursue rather than sitting there following defend orders. This never happens if the fleet engagement orders are set to hold position or local area. When they're on gravity well mode they do some
Guardians...lots and lots of guardians. These coupled with an attack fleet supported by at least one Progenitor Mothership are just about unstoppable. Just be sure to micromanage your guardians so that they keep a continuous shield up instead of all going off at the same time. By doing this you can render your opponents shots to be worthless especially when the Progenitor is doing shield restores. Shield mitigation plus damage sharing from that the guardian shields will protect all but the weake
But Advent was already a force to be reckoned with... Build a bunch of guardians, disciples, and then a pair or triple of capital ships and you're just about unstoppable. Having those guardians around effectively turns the enemy's shots into blanks when you consider the 57% (depending on ship) shield mitigation and then the 33% damage reduction on top of that. If you sit there and micromanage the battle you can keep a guardian shield on at all times and prevent your ships from leaving its radius
Mettra [. . .]Now you've got my attention (former competitive SC player).[. . .]
As soon as I read that I switched from taking you seriously to wanting to type tl,dr. This isn't Starcraft and I don't want to play another Starcraft game. I remember what you competitive people did to the singleplayer aspects of both Starcraft and Warcraft, especially Warcraft 3. I'm not a competitive player. I'm a casual player. You competitive types have ruined everything you've touched,
I think it's important for the developers to look into the feedback of expert players (whether real or self-professed experts) to see what kind of issues they find with the balance with respect to that type of (expert) game experience. But they definitely need to take into consideration the silent majority and how any of these balance suggestions may affect them (like it or not, the silent majority is the bread and butter of the game company). That being said, I think if these 'expert' pla
Meaningful expansions, be them big or small, that add value and playability to a game are something I would purchase. I think EA was onto something with their booster pack ideas that contained new maps, vehicles, weapons, and sometimes new factions. I would be willing to pay for that sort of stuff even if it were released quarterly each year. In Sins' case, I would be willing to pay $10 to $20 for small expansions/packs that would add new races, game mechanics (such as what the Rise of Legends e
The fact is that the big majority of players has no clue of the finer strategly nuances possible in the game. This is the same for every game ever released: Only a small minority really gets into it and only this small minority actually as a clue what they are talking about when suggesting multiplayer changes. So in listening to the majority in such cases you unbalance the game, you make big mistakes in balancing. It simply does not work like that.
Typical intolerance and
None of the UTs have had a particularly engrossing story, and neither the UT or Battlefield series' have had strong single-player campaigns. Your examples are perfect examples of single-player "training grounds," so I don't know where your complaint really lies.Don't get me wrong, a single-player component is really important to me. But if you're talking about a campaign and not just a sandbox or training ground, a single-player mode MUST train the player about the rules of the game, es
Worst ship designs? It's got to be the Vasari capital ships except for the Vulkoras Desolator. The Jarrasul Evacuator is absolutely the worst design in the game. I'd say the best ship designs go to the Cobalt, Kol, Radiance, Rapture, Disciple, and Destra Crusader.
45USD? You gotta be kidding me.Did the price get adjusted to fit in with Australia's pay 2X as much as the USA scheme?
Wait a minute...you're Australian, right? The value of the US dollar is falling. If you buy Sins off the Stardock distribution site for $40 you'll probably get a great deal depending on how much currency conversion costs. I do have to say that I will not buy games that are above $50. Most of the games I've ever bought were at $40 and $45 because I wait for
I'm pretty sure if you click anywhere on the victory screen it'll immediately jump to quit and show you the graphs. I know I've had this happen a couple of times where I click in the couple o seconds the game needs to end the match thus forcing the graphs to appear immediately without the victory screen.
...and Sins is just a game where a bunch of starships blast each other to smithereens, right? It's way too early to be that judgemental about a game in which the only information that's been given is a small amount of detail and a couple screenshots. I agree that achievements and in particular unlockable content won't appeal to every gamer, but it's unfair to infer that Demigod will be "shallow" based on what little we know at this point.-- Retro
Do you know how often people say th
I must be the only person out there that really doesn't care about stats, achievements, and ranks. They're nice for some people, yes, but I do hope they're truly optional. I hope Stardock/GPG doesn't come up with one of those idiotic ideas to tie unlockable items to ranks or stats like what's done in the Battlefield series or even in Crysis. I absolutely DESPISE having game elements locked away until I give x amount of my life away to the game. I will not buy games that do that because I
Demigod doesn't really fall into any of the standard definitions. Look at sins -- is it 4X? No... RTS? Not quite...
Yes, but it was called an RTS with epic scale, 4x elements, and real-time gameplay. Those genres and elements are related and give you a basic idea of the direction of the game regardless if you anticipate it to be more like an RTS or 4x game. When something is promoted as an action, RPG, RTS, MMO, and something else it's rather difficult to see how all those elem
Now wait just a minute, wasn't GPG complaining about PC piracy being out of control a few months ago, or am I confusing them with someone else? I seem to recall them saying some stuff that was almost as bad as Epic's "disarray" comment about PC gamers, but I may be mistaken. It's good that Stardock is expanding and they plus Ironclad and GPG are teaming up. I like the whole integrated online system idea. However, the more I read about Demigod the more confused I get. It's an ac
