Well, the Karma system sucks. It only gives you the option of +1 but then gives the person 2. The underlying issue isn't that you're gaining or losing Karma, it's that there are 4 servers used by the forums to handle the load. The servers don't update at the same time forcing one to show one thing, and another to show something different.
