How many modern turn based fantasy strategy games are there? Isn't it just Elemental and Heroes?
Nah. There's also Warlock, Masters of the Broken World and Dominion 3 guys also are working on new TBS.
and I am about to drop even more money on wargames from Matrix. Something tells me I'm going to have a much better time with these products anyway.
You mean the same Matrix that shamelessly exploits the fact that you can't buy their games anywhere else to milk their fans dry? Matrix chargins 90$ for boxed Command Ops: Battles from the Bulge made me a lot more angry than 2K choosing Steamworks for Civ5
@-=XX=-Nephilim Only difference between Mac and PC is OS and most (if not all) developers would find developing for Mac way easier due to Apple's "closed eco system" - meaning less bugs, less time waste optimising your game for trillion possible PC configurations, more stable final product and ultimately smoother end-user experience. Won't work. Macs have such petite market share they simply can't be a main development platform for any developer without suicidal te
I wonder what the SPORE haters damage control will be when the game passes 2mln, then 3 mlns or maybe even 4mln copies
SPORE will easily sell many millions of copies. http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/09/16/spore-drm-update-ea-loosening-one-restriction/ It's been a week since it's release and SPORE has already sold over 430K copies.
Its no different than stealing someone's lunch, stealing someone's wallet, etc.
I'm against piracy, it's immoral, socialy damaging and illegal. But it's not theft, it's not stealing. That's a different kind of crime. Yeah, I'm anal, but I'm a law student and comments like those I just can't leave alone :) Anyway this new method sucks, I at least hope this means there won't be CDchecks and that they will release patch that removes the authentication in a year or
BIS made Lionheart, didn't they? That game was awesome.
Npe, they just put their logo on it, the actual development was handled by Reflexive
Ironically, the PC developers who get closed down historically were the most highly successful.I mean, sheesh, Black Isle? Who the hell saw THAT coming?
Everybody who followed how badly Interplay was doing. BIS was doing fine, just not fine enough to save Interplay
Y.How are you going to convince me what the return on my investment is going to be if I put millions behind your development house to make a game?
Wel, you don't have much choice. I mean there aren't many console devs left that would accept your money. Indepednent developers (I don't mean indie, just ones that are owned by their employees instead of being owned by pig publisher or other company) are quickly going extinct in console market. They either die or get bought out by publ
PCgaming is growing double digits each yearWhere are your numbers to support this? In the $18.65 billion dollar industry that is electronic gaming, last year PCs FELL from $970 million to $910 million. That is pretty much the opposite of growth.WWW LinkWWW LinkWWW LinkIf you are an investor in these sorts of industries... and in charge of deciding WHO gets the $8 million gamble to make that next game, the numbers don't look good to bet on the PC right now.~ Wyndstar
the lins
In fact, here's a link you stupid ignoramuses: http://kotaku.com/351661/crysis-comeback-moves-1-million-copiesThey sold a million after 4 months. Halo 3 eclipsed that on preorders alone. They both cost approximately the same to make. Which is the better return on investment?
Comparing Halo3 to Crysis doesn’t make much sense. First of all Halo3 is huge IP, it’s not like any developer can expect their games to sell like Halo3 does, it just doesn’t happen often. Second while they both
PCgaming is growing double digits each year, I do not know what your definition for dyzing is, but it sure as hell does not fit into my own understanding of the word.
ou CAN NOT port games to the PS3 numb nuts..
what the hell are you talking about? Porting means nothing more than simply bringing a game from one platform to another, it doesn’t necessary mean sou can just copy and past the code from other versions. As long as you bringing a game from one platform to another you’re porting.
Besides, what are the console gamers going to complain about? How 'smart' PC games are compared to console games? Give me a break. Consoles are the single factor driving down creativity, imagination, encouraging dumbing-down and pushing graphics and action over anything else.Which platform was Crysis released on again? That would be the PC, wouldn't it? And don't forget how amazingly creative, imaginative, and smart Crysis is compared to, say, Mass Effect.
Crysis might
One of those copies was mine :D Anyway congratulations guys, you and Stardock deserve it.
I don't like the mag, especialy that douche Shawn Elliot. GFW is nie magazine for previews and exclusive content, but for reviewing look elsewhere
What the hell has happened to Chris Taylor? I mean first he makes Space Siege even simplier and more streamlined than DungeonSiege (which already was jokingly compared to screensaver) making it a "game for amputees" (not my term, heard it from Age of Decadence dev) and now he goes on to ramble how rtses are too complex, that anything that requires a tutorial is bad and shouldn't be this way. I think he just uses piracy as scape goat for simplifying games. In reality a lot of pcgames sol
