Sins, strategy, and literature in Sins of a Solar Empire Sins Forums

For anybody who enjoys playing Sins and who also enjoys reading SciFi, you should pick up the books from the series The Lost Fleet by Jack Campbell. Dauntless, Fearless and Courageous are already out. It is a military scifi story - meaing that a lot of the plot involves around the changing strategy and tactics of the different star fleets and how the crews deal with everything. Good stuff. Game developers are right to protect their games from piracy. I just wish there was some better way to protect their products without making it so difficult to use. Unfortunately, the only two mechanisms are putting something on the installation media or having the user authenticate with some server on the internet. Can anybody think of anything better? I was rope-a-doped last night by the AI in 1.04. They bribed the pirates to attack me, when the pirates were active, they sent a fleet to attack one of my planets. As I was responding to that attack bby moving spacecraft to that area in support, I was surprised to discover it was a feint. The real attack from the AI with the majority of their fleet was taking place at a different area of the map! Nice. :) A pleasant surprise.

One simple way to fix this is for the Tutorials to improve to include more strategy and tactics. They explain how to use the UI to do stuff, but not really why you need to do certain things. The game model is fairly complicated for RTS noobs. This is great for hardcore gamers or people with infinite time to learn it all the hard way, but is bad for the beginners. I installed the game normally. Everything looked ok, the game started and everything was fine. However, when I tried to start the game again from the "Start Menu-?....->Sins of a Solar Empire", it would bring up the launcher(?) screen, but the launched screen would only have buttons for "Install". Ok, I installed it on my laptop and that installed fine. So the CD keys are right and all. As for what is wrong on my main desktop machine, when I start SOASE from the Start Menu icon I only see the install buttons. No options to actually play the game. I did manage to download the 1.03 update, and still no luck. I finally went through SDCentral just for giggles and although it is damn ugly, the game started. I installed the game from DVD, entered in my email and registration code, but the game is not working. I cannot launch the game and my account says that I do not have the game registered. Where do I go and register my copy of the game? How can I manually do this since the install software obviously screwed the pooch on this one? Thanks
