One tip on your fleets: Up the number of Missile Frigates in them (From 5 to 15-20 or so, ideally). They are dirt-cheap and very effective in large groups. And TEC get the best ones. That *SHOULD* allow you much more "Punch" out of your fleets for a relatively minor investment, and with the extreme range of the Frigates, you will manage to inflict some more casualties on the enemy before they manage to jump to another planet. Remember that any ship that successfully runs away will be re

Generally, it's more cost-efficient to settle a new planet and buy extractors for a few hundred credits, than the cost of researching the rather small upgrades to mining. --Trade...don't ne

1) Bombers and fighters move at insane speeds, so they can intercept enemies faster than anything else. 2) With the exception of Flak and other Fighters, there's only a 10% chance of an enemy even HITTING a Fighter or Bomber, and if the odd one is lost, they are rebuilt quickly. The sum is, that the fighters and bombers themselves are virtually impervious to attacks from a fleet that isn't specifically prepared to counter them. 3) Fighters are meant to counter Light and Very Li

Well...if you have a human player trying to bounce through your system to get to your back, I guess the best thing to do is to make him pay a price for each of your gravity-wells he moves through. To me, the best solution would be, as others mentioned, Hangars with Phase Jump Inhibitors. Fighters and Bombers cross a gravity-wells 3-4 times faster than anything else, so any fleet moving through will be smacked around a bit for each planet it passes, almost from the get-go. ...but returning to the initial question: *IF* you were going to mass one vessel, what would it be? (As in: For the rest of your game, you would only be allowed to use ONE type from each category) Frigates: Long Range Frigates, especially the LRM. They do 75% damage against Heavy, Very Heavy and Capital...but that's honestly not bad at all, considering the numbers you can amass, and the range they have. Cruisers: That's a no-brainer, I think: Heavy Assaults all the way

I think it's important to distinguish between defending against a human player, and defending against a computer-player. Granted, I haven't played games against computer-players of all difficulties, but their tacticts are certainly much more straight-forward than what a human might come up with. Against a computer-player, you can more or less expect an attack on you planet to happen in a relatively straight line from the Phase entry-point and to your planet. If you choke that a
