Making a group with the Sovereign?? in War of Magic Elemental Forums

Only bought the game last night, played about 15 mins, so I would like to know how to make a group with my Sovereign? Since mine has no combat ability I would like some cannon fodder to walk around with my leader. Can it be done and how?
