My apologies, I just won my first Dark Avatar game a week ago, and downloaded Twilight last night, and I'm playing with Modding the xml 'just to see' what can be done. The obvious question in my mind that I haven't seen addressed is what is the level of compatibility between the series? are the Binaries and dll's identical in each, backwards compatible, etcetera? If I took the seven 'mod directories' and copied them directly from dread overlords into the Twilight of the Arnor
The only thing that travels faster than the speed of light is bad news....(got that from a good book)
One of the Alan Dean Foster novelizations has a statement along the lines of "Warp Engines, Subspace radio, and Gossip; 3rd, 2nd, and 1st place for "Fastest things in the universe". -
I'm looking at the Mod info, but so far I'm still not 'getting' some concepts yet - maybe someone brighter than myself can do some testbed ideas for these and see how they work - I consider this to all be inter-related, but most of it could be done individually. I am mulling over several interrelated ideas about how mines, anomalies, and at least some ethical "dilemma's" work and I think this could be reworked into something more cohesive, and perhaps less (to my mind) unbalancing. <br
I would like to see something like this implemented (And yes, another former MOO player. I'm playing the Psilon's - {G}) - I don't think it should be an overwhelming advantage, but contrawise, thinking of the [link="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gurkha"]Ghurkas[/link] of the old British Empire, I have no difficulty imagining unleashing the 51st Drengin Legion against the Drath, to somewhat better effect than my wimpy Psilon soldiers. Not that Psilons aren't great in combat, if you can ge
Ethanol from *corn* is a pipe dream. Brazil does quite well on ethanol from sugar cane. Jonnan
How long do games typically last? I have, like 20 of those? Is the other ship the "Precursor Ranger"? I have one of those too. I am *so* screwed next game - Jonnan
At some point I think we must create a race with 100% luck, and no other abilities, just to see how unbalancing it is. Given some of the seeming effects of 25% Luck, 100% would just be godawful - {G}. Jonnan
If they would start drilling off the coast, in Alaska, in Brazil, and now in North Dakota we could be out of this mess and prevent oil from going that high. If they had simply started drilling 10 years ago when Alaska came up and it was defeated by 1 vote, then we wouldn't have the problem we have today. Yes, oil is finite, but we keep finding new deposits of it all the time. They found a bunch down in Antarctica (the Russians are eagerly going after it) and over in Greenland. Recently th
Cool - I obviously missed that, thanks. Still hope some of the other features might be useful too though? Jonnan
Ethanol might be useful - despite being from Indiana, corn based ethanol really doesn't work all that well, but Brazil shows pretty obviously that a good ethanol supply mechanism can work well. It also has the advantage that it's basically compatible with our current infrastructure, which lowers the short term investment. Hydrogen is actually workable now - the issue there is more infrastructure than technology, because it's completely incompatible as it stands now. Personally,
Its completly ridiculous. I can't even fill my truck up all the way because the pumps don't go over $75 worth of gas. Gas prices will go down some after November but not all the way to good ol' day prices, jeez I remember my parents complaining about $1.50 a gallon, lol.
With apologies - oh, that's funny. Pumps won't go over $75? That makes no sense! Surely Semi's have to use more than $75 worth of diesel on a fill up? "Good news today - Gas prices plung
Yeah - *that* would be nice to have in the Colonies screen. Jonnan
I'm still not sure I understand the Economic formula's - the system acknowledges that I have vastly more income than the AI races, but still scores me lower than any of them in the stats screens. I suspect it's because it's mostly Tourism income though - I got influence up quit early in the game (Three mines) and it's been a losing battle for the AI's ever since on that score, I'm at like 20,000,000 votes on the Galactic Senate screen versus something like 1,000,000 total for everyone else.
Just out of curiosity - do the AI's have to take these random options too? Jonnan
Definitely agreed on the good/evil decision making process. Strategically, as a good Civ, it's only sane to grab the ethical tech ASAP, because the decisions never help you. Contrawise, as an Evil civ, I'm not sure why they would *ever* actually research the tech to finalize that decision - every evil decision you make, only makes you more powerful. I would think it would be better to make the decision trees on that 'balance out' advantages and disadvantages on the Civs, maybe an ethica
I concede, I'm not sure *why* you would goof up the AI that way, but one supposes you could do it now, even without that, by simply not using any of their advantage points. If it's something that would affect the metaverse (Haven't done that yet), you could simply make a score adjustment for unused points on the AI's versus you - multiply the scores by the ratio of '(Average AI points unused+1)/(player points unused+1)' - Nerf all the AI's too badly, you're only going to get 10% of the
I've been pondering the same thing - I was actually wondering about making the penalties for a party half the regular bonus - I.E., the 'Natural' Party of Psilons when they're happy is the technologists, but the other parties are competent as well, but your solution seems more comprehensive. Not sure how one one implement it though - can this be implemented as a simple Mod? Jonnan
I'm only playing Dark Avatar, so if this has been fixed in Twilight of the Arnor, then 'nuff said. By the same token, I may be overlooking features somehow. Getting into the end game, and I'm finding Rally Points useful, now that I've figured out how to use them, but not *as* useful as it feels like it ought to be. First of all - I find it really odd that I can setup a rally point in the main map with a click, but in order to actually switch it on for a colony I have to go into the
The Psilons are not actually ready to go to war yet, but I saved and ran a few turns testing my designs against the AI. There may not be anything more fun than the realization that I don't need to bother Bringing the few 'large' battleships I have built into the fray - my 'Tiny' F6 fighters are evidently overkill, the enemy can't even penetrate my shields, but I toast their battleships one on three. Bringing my heavy cruisers into battle may just be being mean. Fly my p
These weapons are also more commonly known as fuel air bombs and they actually have been around for a while. 2003 may have been the first time any were actually used, I'm not sure. But if you watch the movie 'Outbreak' the bomb they were about to drop on the town was a fuel air bomb, and I believe the one depicted was in fact a MOAB. Thats the earliest example, at least in popular culture, that I can think of.Now I thought of a potentially scary concept for fuel air bombs. Imagine the d
prices have only increased about 150% in the last 4 years. so if the inflation of gas continues at this rate you are looking at about 14 years for this to happen. Even assuming the price were to actually continue to climb at this unnatural rate (which it wont) in 14 years every car on the road will get at least double the current gas milage if not more.In any case the price of oil is being manipulated by futures traders the actual price per gallon of fuel oil is really around 70 dollars
I don't remember the order of things, but we had a C64 and an Intellivision when I was a kid. Intellivision: The Original Civ game Utopia, Tron - deadly Disks, there was a game fighting more and more advanced robots that was good for the time. C64: I remember playing Neuromancer (With a soundtrack by Devo IIRC!), one of the first games like that I remember playing all the way through and actually beating. Temple of Apshai, Bards Tale I - III, I remember loving Adventure Constr
My main issue with the Mega Events is that they feel unrealistic. In the Jagged Knife, there is a seizure of massive amounts of planets - and not one intelligence agency anywhere saw it coming? If there were some foreshadowing (Planets with approval drifting downward for no noticeable reason, unknown agents showing up on worlds, a chance of a contact from an allied (or Respected Enemy) civilization in neutral territory) that gave one the feeling that there is a new player on the board,
Short answer - That's *really* out of date for Ubuntu
Short answer too; That's exactly what I said as well.

Sorry - it sounded like you were peripherally aware that it had gotten better since the bad old days, but weren't aware of how much. As far as I am concerned, Ubuntu has gone in a very short period from being lightyears behind Windows in ease of use to lightyears ahead - I was shocked at the difference in such a very short period, and assuming
The only feature that I think isn't going to get ported (Because of the different security models, and the risks it would create under Windows that just aren't there under Linux) would be apt-get/synaptic.
Yea, it is a terrible loss not to be able to type a string of lengthy lines into your command prompt in order to install the programs.
