I've added my 'mod' of the Dread Lords and Dark Avatar XML files to work with the Twilight Engine - campaigns still have to be copied to the Twilight\...\campaigns folder to be recognized, and it is entirely possible I've misplaced a file in the mod folders somewhere, so if you notice something not using a file it's probably *not* your imagination. That said - there's no good reason for this to crash, values and tech trees should match previous versions, so if you want to run the Dread

Well, I still don't know how to make a screenshot , but I had a moment of inspiration and looked in the "Twilight" My Games folder - Sure Enough, there was a corrupted "Drath Legion.raceconfigxml" that it had initiated at some point - delete that, and wa-la - back comes the Drath Legion in all their annoying glory. Which does point to a possible issue with this xml-update I'm working on - if the system automatically makes .raceconfigxml files when you play a race in this, then these may
Additionally - I feel really stupid on this - My reference says "Ctrl+Print Screen Take a screenshot (goes into screenshot folder)" I cannot find any screenshot folder, either among the install directories or among the my games folders? I'm sure I'm overlooking it somehow, but having a hard time imagining where? Thanks Again - Jonnan, (Who will post a screenshot if he can, like, find them?)
I hadn't played a lot of Twilight of the Arnor, so it's possible this predates my attempting to mod it and I just didn't know it, but the Drath Legion no longer seems to have any Data in it? Ship schematics are empty, tech tree is empty, there's no data there at all? If I access another race starting, then back out to the race choice screen and reselect the Drath Legion, the previous race info stays in the screens (IE name is Drath Legion, but shows Thalan Description, Ship style etcetera
I think you misread - you shouldn't be able to research from a 'licensed' technology - the receiving civ doesn't actually *understand* it, they just buy them wholesale. That doesn't mean they can't learn how it works later - not like trade goods that way, where only one civ can develop them. I would counter that the 'licensed' tech would be a cheaper and more easily traded option - if you want to assist some small civ give the Drengin a black eye, you license out Phasers and Arnorian ba
Arguing EULA's and piracy are probably two separate arguments - in the U.S. at least, a lot of the standard assumptions about EULA's actually run afoul of Uniform Commercial Code stipulations regarding contracts, with divisions between courts as to whether some provisions are enforceable or not; Jonnan
The problem is that conflating piracy with theft confuses the issue on several levels, not the least of which is that it leads to irrational thinking about what can be effectively done about it. Which leads to irrational actions that lower your profit margins without actually helping the issue - because, in the case of theft, those actions would be effective. So - it's not about right and wrong when I argue that piracy!=theft - it's about the fact that there are two separate i
Just because I'm curious - this "No Tech Brokering" Option seems to me that it should be should be generally related to the "Trade Items" specialID info - i.e. it's Tech Licensing, in which you can 'license' a technology to another civilization, but it doesn't mean they actually *have* the technology - They have access to it for purposes of it's benefits, but they can't trade it themselves, can't develop other technologies from it, as far as the engineers are concerned it's "Black Box" Technolog
That's a joke right?
If you don't know, I suppose I passed - {G} Jonnan
Okay - what exactly would I need to change in order for the Twilight engine to recognize the campaign in the mod campaigns folder then? Just change the name? Sorry goofing off at work, but I can't really test options here - {G} Jonnan
That seems to be how it works, yes - you can create a "Dark Avatar" and "DreadLords" techtree for use in Twilight by simply changing the the original xml headers; loading the tree into the twilight tech tree editor, then saving - it culls all the duplicate fields and leaves just the stuff that changes between the versions. Take care - Jonnan
Can we get an explination as to why there were three posts while the topic was "closed", then posting was not an option for some time after it was "opened"? Not that anyone needs more heckling from the peanut gallery, but if there's a "parting shot" window, I'd kinda like to know about it
My apologies - I started a posting from work (I have a job as a Turing Test), became sidetracked by those people that pay me (Shakes fist in air!) and when came back I finis
Dark Knight - we are debating a "Change in the Law". It is therefore not, by definition, "The Law". Second of all - you obviously don't actually *know* "The Law". Or you would know that the law distinguishes between a "Threat on someone's Life" and an obvious attempt at humor. The question is would a "Reasonable Man" feel threatened by a person saying they were going to beat them about the head and shoulders with a wiffle bat. You are welcome to argue that a reasonable man wou

Next time take it.That car had poor mpg. Hold the dealership hostage.Your an asshole (If ya pirate). You deserve prison. Hopefully now you'll get it.And the lawmakers feel the same way, so don't have another person make a long winded speech on how sto
I've updated the XML files and they seem to run fine under twilight - I'm trying to track down an odd bug with the Drath and figure out if I have a corrupted install or if my mod messed something up somehow, and if a reinstall fixes this, I will probably upload this weekend. If not, I may ask for help - we'll see. Jonnan
Okay - attempts at sardonic, no longer to be attempted. I'll mark that right under "Romulan Ale no longer to be served at diplomatic functions" {G} - Jonnan
Good. People would be faced with the fact that their commiting a crime, and this will lower game prices by $5-10.I hope the 4th time (going online illegally) means jail. If it was up to me, thieves would go to prison.
So don't bet on it saving you money - Theft diminishes supply and demand in a balanced fashion both the supply and the demand are reduced, and the change in price is going to depend on the elasticity of the market. IP piracy cannot diminish supply
My problem is the definition of "Piracy" - I typically find that what I define as Piracy involves a much more narrow definition of the term than what industry advocates (Or possibly even our gracious hosts) define as piracy. Now, if they mean the same thing *I* mean, then by all means, they can go to it. Jonnan
Well, I was rather hoping this might be a "Oh - you need to add a setting in the .ini" or something equally newbie-ish, but evidently not. This was mostly a way for me to dig into the XML files and see stuff, if they may just get copied into the TA campaign folder, I will survive the emotional distress - {G}. Not familiar with 'Compare It', but I found Winmerge to be pretty intuitively obvious - it is (I think) just a GUI on the Linux 'diff' tools behind the scenes - load two files, hit
My apologies - I've done some searching, and not pulled this up, so my apologies in advanced if I just missed it. Okay I have (I think) successfully played around and (With copious use of Winmerge , a program for highlighting the changes in text files) updated the XML files from Dread Lords and Dark Avatar so one can play as the previous techtrees and improvements under the Twilight engine - at least it seems
Given enough luck, Precursor ships seem to be given away with box tops - {G}. Which would be great if the darn things weren't so *slow*! Which brings up a logical question? Any way of modding the style of precursor ships that are available? I get Precursor Rangers somtimes and "Lucky" Rangers fairly consistently, but there really ought to be other ships out there? I'm sure it's a shipconfig function somewhere? jonnan
Well, heck, typically *I* go years without making a combat vessel. Of course, I have seven to ten survey vessels out there grabbing anomalies, as I research my way into higher tech levels - it's not a strategy I've noticed the AI using, but if one actually does, those 1% bonuses really add up over time. Of course, *this* game I have Pirates and Dread lords (If I get the Jagged Knife, I swear I'll wimp out and load a save game - ), so my survey vessels are not the cushy assignments fo
Kind of like using a nice ship editor that doesn't exist. Is there a way to cheat an editor in game?Well, i may have mis-read you... but as MrKorx just clearly spelled it out for you - i won't insist on *that* trick either. And yet, you were saying, EVERY races - right, Jonnan?Duh -- *That* would be a mathematical issue which i do not need to calculate for you, do i?
My apologies - I was referring to Mr. Korx cheat trick (I don't typically explore "Cheat Mode" options) and
If you play the 'Battle of the Gods' scenario you start with all techs researched. Not sure if it works with TA's custom trees though.
Well, *that's* a useful trick - Thanks Jonnan
This is very cool - a grateful public thanks you - Jonnan
