I was thinking more like quotes from older sources, like the ones that Medieval 2: Total War and probably the rest of the TW series had, although some from fiction would be good as well if they are legal to use :D
Gnats3
Having a mix of game-lore excerpts and real quotes depending on the situation would be great :D. I'm not sure exactly how the games in Elemental are set up but for example if you had a map/campaign that specifically followed the storyline, you could use the excerpts, and for "normal" skirmishs you could use real quotes.
Old :P. It was faked, I think.
So like random-team ranked games with separate ratings for each player? :P Sound a lot like normal ranked but with favor points instead of Elo.
IIRC, maps are made using programs like 3ds max and then changed to a specific format for Demigod. If GPG doesn't release an exporter, custom maps won't be doable (or at least not easily).
Don't forget achievement items :). They will surely play a big part in matchmaking.
I think having quotes would be great; they are certainly better and more interesting than "tips" that don't really help anyone. Fake trading cards might be a little much but a large pool of a mix of fictional and historical quotes would make the loading times very bearable, especially if they are thought-provoking. Maybe the devs could even let community members suggest quotes to be added to the final game :o
"Public beta" probably means that anyone who preorders gets in versus a "private beta" which would be the invite-only type. Stardock doesn't seem to do the "come demo our game!!!11" type of beta at all. And really, as some other people said, June is still Spring technically. The summer Demigod beta started in early September IIRC, which is pretty late in summer.
You can check for sure if someone is a bot or not by pressing ctrl+~ to open the console, then typing in ren_shownetworkstats. Real people will have ping and everything and AI's will be missing stuff/have 0/etc. Type ren_shownetworkstats again to remove the window, and press ctrl+~ again to hide the console. I'm not sure that Gabberkooij's explanation of sim speed is entirely right. It is indeed the speed that the game calculations are/can be made, but the numbe

I think it is important that Elemental has very "strong" music. Many games just have background music that you barely notice. If you are managing your civilization or whatever and not actively fighting a battle, some good music will help keep you interested. Improv music is ok but in my experience it hasn't been particularly impressive. The iMuse system that Zubaz mentioned sounds like a good idea :).
Way too many betas are just glorified multiplayer demos; in fact, most people have come to expect them to be that way, and just use betas to try out the game. I'm glad Stardock is sticking to the real-beta approach :).
April 14th is the estimated release date, IIRC. 2 new Demigods after/on release, hopefully more if Demigod does well.
We've seen pictures of 8 maps, I think, and I think that is about all we will be getting at first.
Sorry but I'm pretty sure that you won't be getting in [e digicons]:'([/e]
I think at least 2 more Demigods are planned, and I think Frogboy said at one point that GPG had 4 Demigods that they would like to eventually get in. This is probably pretty dependent on how well the game sells, however. I wouldn't expect 20+; even 16 is more than we'll probably be getting for a long time. It takes a long time and a lot of money to make new ones. Modders can probably add more Demigods if GPG makes modding possible; I'm not sure now but
I guess that way they can show just as much stuff but in a shorter video.
I also dislike the current pricing of the favor items. I like the items themselves...however the current system means that pretty much after the first night of gaming you have them all. In Call of Duty 4 (which this system has been compared to) it would not make for a very fun achievment system if you had all of it unlocked on your first day...or even your first week. I think the number of items is appropriate and for the mostpart..the items seem
Back in January, Frogboy said...
If there is time, I hope for us to run a beta tournament with cash and prizes to test out the system. It’s a good way to thank beta testers for helping us out and work out cheese and connectivity problems early.
Whether this will still occur hasn't been mentioned. However, if he was thinking about maybe having a tournament in the beta, I think it is even more likely that they will happen in retail.
Reviving the old "achievements/favor points let you purchase aesthetic upgrades to your Citadel" idea would be nice. Once favor points work as intended, however, this may not be necessary.
Well, usually I end up buying weakish/medium items, then eventually selling them for better ones. Wyrmskin gloves are good, and I often get the Plenor Battlecrown or whatever the relatively cheap but really useful crown/helmet is called. Early on I get a Totem of Revelation for the extra LoS, and I must have my teleport scrolls :).
thats not true gnats. you can win without killing a single unit, just playe against a very bad player / easy ai and buy citadel upgrades and let the reinforcments do the job (or your spirits with the oak)
No! Read the guide again! Citadels count as units! You (meaning your team) must kill it!
All game modes are supposed to end when the Citadel is destroyed :). The manual will say that when it gets released. However, I agree that a setting where you actually have to complete the specific game mode objective would be nice.
I'm just guessing but I bet they will look at karma to get a rough idea of who should be in the gamma, but won't rely on it to make the actual decisions. Frogboy and some of the other devs seem to browse the forums and hang out in chat pretty often, so they probably know who the useful users are. At the same time, anyone who has lots of karma but isn't necessarily "right" for gamma testing wouldn't get into the gamma just because of their karma. Still, fixing karma wo
