Quoting sneftrup, reply 10Do you have any approximate system requirements for the beta? Yeah. I don't want to PreOrder a Game I can't play because of my Computer. So some informations would be great.
If you can play Supreme Commander you should be able to play Demigod. If your in doubt, then maybe you should hold off pre-ordering. Part of the first beta is to test Demigod and multiple systems to see what works.&nb
Please remember that Dota currently has 91 heroes. When I started playing (guinsoo's era) it had around 60 to 70 heroes. I'd assume in it had even less in its earlier stages. Granted there were some earlier heroes that are no more (or radically changed), but its likely to continue to add heroes. In any case, you have to play a hero a couple of times just to become familiar with his abilities. That means for a new player, a minimum o
Only gets my vote if items that are unlocked are not necessarily better than those available as default. In other words, just because some guy has played the game 150 hours more than me, I do not think he should get an item that gives him a drastic edge. For instance, Call of Duty 4 handles this idea well. When you first start out in multiplayer, you have very few option (2 classes) to choose from. As you level, more options are opened up. As you complete
damn you people DEMIGOD =/= DOTA...
and your point.....? Yes we know that Demigod is not DOTA. But from every account DOTA is the closest thing we have played to Demigod. Of course we are going to bring up our complaints about DOTA because guess what? GPG can do something about it and address the problems heads on. If it comes out of the blocks without any of the aforemention
Love rewards. Long after you've mastered the game, know what to expect from a match, and have fun playing, rewards keep pushing us. COD4 did this well with 10 ranks of prestige with 55 levels each. Additionally, there were rewards and unlockables for completing in game challenges. I always liked the avatar options in WarIII Bnet. However, I really only play DOTA which never counted towards wins meaning I never got beyond orc worker.
I like both of these. Sometimes I stay for a busted match in COD4 simply to get the bonus points at the end. Again, I'd like to see leaving a game be a different trackable stat then lost a game. Likewise, disconnect would be another stat.
What will be done in Demigod to prevent people from simply dropping mid game because they are doing badly? And destroying the game for the others playing. Even if AI were to take over that char I don't think any AI is compareable to decent human player. There also must be some sort of penalty for the leaver.
Actually, the AI that has been developed for DOTA is better than most of the leavers. It carries a couple of healing potions (flasks), knows when to back up a
8 isn't a bad start. It seems rather small only compared to DOTA. Compared to many fighting games, classes in FPS games, and RPG games, 8 unique heroes is pretty normal. I'd expect the work and attention to detail put into these 8 (animations, special effects, spells, balance) will make it worth it. Plus, the curve will be that less steep to learn the skills and gameplay with these core. Looking forward to Thurs/Friday
...But then again, much of the DotA community is incrediably rude and immature.
I'd like to think that the majority of the dota community is not incredibly rude and immature and that it only seems that way because the rude and immature crowd are much more vocal. If you think about it, in a game with 10 players, there's usually only 2 or 3 really obnoxious ones. Sometimes it may be 4 or and sometimes you may feel like the only one with a sane head, but genera
Not sure if I like the concept. Its like starting World of Warcraft at level 40. Additionally, who your opponents are should affect your skill selection and item choices. Having different Demi's coming in will be a disruption. What happens when you join in a 4v5 to find your team's base nearly destroyed? Take the loss? Swapping players mid game would have the same affect. You've played a well the entire game in a 5v5. Your team pushe
I'm not really talking about the power of things, but how they FEEL. You can have a mouse doing 1000DPS, or you can have a Giant walking castle with towers on it's back and shoulders and giant hammer doing 1000DPS slowly with huge damage attacks. Which is more awesome, though?
See monty python and the holy grail. The rabbit is pretty awesome.
I wanted to continue to say to like look at DotA with it's easymode(-em). It gives m
pre-beta angsts
ah, there's a gem. I wholeheartedly support picking your demigod while in the lobby regardless if there can be same picks or not. I don't know how many DOTA matches I've played that have gone sour due to players not getting the hero they wanted (either in random or someone picked their favorite or whatever). Plus, maybe you want to change your pick depending on what others are selecting (this may go on for a while, but eventually everyone should have what they want). </
Ever play line tower wars on Warcraft III custom maps? The general idea is that each team (player when singles) has a lane that they must defend. If any units travel all the way through the lane and reach the end it counts against you until a limit is reached and you are eliminated. In addition to your lane, you have a seperate area where your barracks are located. You spend gold to make towers in your lane for defenses, and gold to send creeps from your barracks to th
It's amazing to see how everyone has a preconcieved notion of what Demigod is and should be. We'll find out what it is in another 9 days or so. Through suggestions and the dev's final say, we'll help shape what it will be.
actually this is still much tamer than many other forums I've visited. I've never seen the need for a moderator on here as most of the posters keep their posts in check.
argh, I had a nice long post and like lurker, lost it when the forums reset. I'll try it again: I played a match in Dota once where every player was given the same hero. As it turned out, we all got Magina. Magina excels at killing casters. His skills include mana burn (every hit takes mana away from the target, each point of mana taken does bonus damage), blink (short teleport with a 5 second cooldown when maxed), spell shield (up to 40% spell da
We'd all be better off if we just had the Beta now, so we wouldn't have to argue over pointless speculation :)
ah, I'm impressed that you are jumping into the example without playing dota. In any case, there is one more thing to remember. General furion will lose to Assassin furion 1v1, but General furion may still contribute equal or more to winning the game then assassin furion. The reason: Winning the game is not based on whether you can kill the other Demigod 1v1 or how many kills you get. Winning is accomplished when you destroy the enemy base/castle
I dunno, its always made sense in my head that you start with a Demigod. If you want to emphasize his general abilities, then max up the abilities in those areas and buy items that will give him the edge in that area. Likewise if you want to emphasize an assassin type, you max up those abilities first, and pick items accordingly. Take for instance Furion in the game of Dota. He has the following abilities: 1. Forces of Nature - Converts up to 5 treants from trees. 2. Tel
Its hard to argue about balance and spell dynamics when none of us have played the game. Its all speculation and subject to balance. All of this should be addressed in the 2nd and 3rd betas.
Please read the posts a little closer. I specifically typed "in the gaming community". How many times have you heard one player call another player gay? Never ever does he mean, "hey, my gay friend here..." Or "hey, your gay, I've got someone I could hook you up with". When a gamer calls someone else gay it is an insult. I'm sorry we don't live in the politically correct world you must game in, but thats how the word is used when gaming. Fag is also interchangeably used wit
10 more days and we can get a taste for ourselves.
hmm... I know this thread is about DLC, but on a side, it'd be a fun option to be able to unlock demigods. As innociv said, they wouldn't be better then the default ones, it would just give you something to work towards. I'd prefer unlocking be based on accomplishments rather than money (or some of both). Set up some challenges (single player and/or multiplayer) something like, winning 10 multiplayer matches unlocks Demigod X. Win 50 matches unlocks Demigod Z. Get 1,000 Demigod kill
