Yes, but the quote function glitched and treated my entire response (smaller quotes and my comments) as one giant quote for Hack, despite the tags for that not even being there. I've edited the quotes out and just left my comments.

@Centurion: I didn't say anyone could sue (in fact, I said the opposite), and I agree with your point. To clarify mine: this kind of action would merit lawsuits when taken out of the internet/gaming context and placed in the real world. But just because the context IS gaming/internet, I don't think that automatically makes it okay. @Hack: Publishing such accusations is libel - I'd say a public forum, which can be accessed by anyone, counts for that. Also, what about pe
Hmm, I like this expanding-in-2-directions strategy, used it to good effect against my friend last night. Vasari does best with it, I think, because lvl 1 nano-disassembler can take out siege frigates and LRMs in 1 shot.
@ Howdidudothat Who died and put you in charge? The very concept of a blacklist without substantiated proof (all we have is your word, and apparently your trusting of the words of others) is practically libel by definition . If this weren't the internet (with
The amount of trade income each trade port generates is based upon the longest linear trade route through your empire. If you have ports spread out between your homeworld and 4 adjacent planets, then your longest chain will only be 2-3 and you'll have smaller revenue per port. If you have a long chain (6, 7, 8 planets) then each port can start putting out 2+ creds-per-second. (Not sure what the exact math on it is). As far as I know, allegience has not effect on trade income, but rather plane
I've had this happen to me a lot, actually. It's weird to see your own user actions represented as a straight vertical line.
I've had plenty of opportunity to use Siege frigates, to great effect. The effectiveness of the SF, in my opinion, entirely depends on the enemy. Every fortress, every defense has a weak point somewhere, and SFs are the best option for exploiting that. I think most people don't like SFs because their expectations of them are too high ... most people want to have a brutal planet-slaying, but I think it's also acceptable to simply use a well-timed strike on an undefended planet
Hi all I have the beta patch for SoSE and would love to play it, but no matter what time I log on, there's just nobody on. Sure, there are maybe 20 people in games or so, but that doesn't help me much. I've barely been able to play online since the beta patch came out a few months ago. Is there a general time players get on to play each other? Or some method of organizing games? Or should I just uninstall the beta patch? I remember way more people being in the unpatched versio
I was playing a long single player game, trying to obtain multiple achievements in a single game. I'd just finished the 'build 100 squadrons of strikecraft' achievement, and decided that since the fleet upkeep was so much of a drain on my economy, that I'd scrap them and focus on econ for a bit. I hadn't realized at the time that fleet upkeep was directly tied to the fleet researches, and not the actual number of fleet points used. In retrospect, the way it is makes sense - the drain on r

Just tried ObjectDock after reading this article ... was impressed enough with the freeware that I had to buy the Plus version. Good program! :CONGRAT:
I want to get the beta and do what I can to help. Being able to host games will be great, too. However, since we can only play with others that have the beta version, as has been said, this raises a couple of questions: - When in the lobby, will we be able to see everyone? Or only able to see other players that have the beta patch? - If we can see everyone, will there be some indication (aside from 'their word') that they have the beta patch? - If the answer to the previous
Okay, I'm not so mad at the fact that this game has quitters, because every game does, but I'm beginning to find it a serious problem regarding player stats. I've won, or rather been slated to win the past 4 games I've played online, but without fail the host always quits when things are not going his or her way, and as is usually the case, a suitable host cannot be found to migrate to, and the game goes kaput for everyone else, and I don't end up getting credit for what otherwise would h
2. I struggle with efficiently organizing my fleets. I don't understand what the "pin" option does or how to use it. My fleets generally end up messy and jumbled and it really takes me a long time to organize them the way I feel they're most effective. Don't forgot control groups and hotkeys. I usually like to keep each individual capital ship in its own control group (honestly I usually only have 1 for most the game, the Akkan); I also put specialty groups, like siege frigates,
- more multiplayer avatars, and the ability to select individual avatars for each race (instead of selecting sets of 3; I always get stuck with 1 or 2 I don't like). And if you felt like going a step further, maybe allow players to create their own avatars (I picture skilled artists making 'custom avatar packs' for download). - Be able to apply color schemes to your fleets, much like in Dawn of War, if such a thing were possible. - A new frigate/cruiser, or possibly a capital s
The chain actually counts planets with trade ports only, so you need a tradeport at each planet if you want to make a chain. So if you have A -- B -- C with tradeports at A and C, there's no chain and no bonus income. But if you put one at B, all 3 planets now get a bonus from being along the chain. You can only have one bonus "chain", and that's whichever route is the longest uninterrupted, so it can shift around a bit as you expand.
Going with this line of thought, does
Well, keep in mind that the TEC have lots and lots and lots of planets ... the Advent are all coming, I guess, from one place, and the Vasari have lost their homelands and cultural centers. TEC has a huge numbers advantage.
Anyone know of this game where a boy gets his dog stolen by aliens or somesuch thing and he goes on a mission to get his dog back. It was a sidescrolling platformer.
Commander Keen, maybe? My first computer gaming experience was on the Commodore 64. We had a lot of games for it, but the most memorable for me was the port of Mr Do's Castle. I used to play games on my granddad's first PC, too ... usually played Dune II, which I think was the first RTS game
Don't know if someone mentioned this and I missed it, but... I've always thought it ridiculous that when a ship is given a move order to a spot behind where it's facing (like when retreating a heated battle) the ship will actually move forward and then curve around while in motion, as one would except a boat in water to do. Wouldn't it make more sense to just rotate in place (say, by simultaneously using small thrusters on the starboard aft and on the port bow) and then launch forward?<
I think the biggest issue is the hosting problems. I have a dynamic IP, for example, so even forwarding the special ports doesn't allow me to host (I think). Once the patch is out I'll be hosting all sorts of 1v1s and 2v2s (I don't prefer 10 player games that go on for 6-10 hours)
Or, perhaps, there's an in-game option to do so, but I wouldn't know. I'm not big into IT, but I've been learning German for over 5 years and I'm fairly fluent at it now. Well, where-ever you end up looking, try looking for anything called 'Einstellungen' for 'options', or 'Sprachen' for 'languages'. 'German' will be known as 'Deutsch' and English will be known as 'Englisch' (not much difference there).
This is interesting because from what I remember (not looking at it now) to get the achievement you had to use all of the cap ship slots. Is this not the case? From what I am reading it looks like it isn't. If not, I would imagine it would be a lot easier because you could "rush" with caps early and throw the AI off. I was playing rather defensively and keeping only a few planets to not stretch myself too thin but it was too difficult. It does appear that I need to keep this against 1 opp
I've effectively done this against a Hard Aggressive AI on Point Blank, as TEC. The thing you need to capitalize on is that the AI, while hard and aggressive, doesn't really adapt the way that a human player would. The best way to do this on this map is to just be offensive, and not worry about colonizing other things. Point Blank starts you on a desert planet, so you can't upgrade your planet population. So, for the cap-ship build, you should start out by scuttling your frigat
Hi all, just bought the game a few days ago and I'm really liking it so far (despite getting thrashed about every time I go online, but I'm learning). I'm also trying to get all the achievements unlocked (at about 33% right now), but I wanted to ask what the actual, um, purpose of doing so is. Yes, I've sifted through the search function of this forum and yes, I've looked through the user manual a couple of times, but I found no real mention of it. Do the achievements unlock anything? Do
