At last, someone who brought a camera with them at PAX 2008! Don't get too excited though, it's just 20 seconds, closeup, of Torchbearer casting a spell. Still enough to let us get an idea about the UI. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/259815.html

The 1UP hands-on with amazing new screenshots that make HD resolutions seem like puny, inbred midgets*
It'd be strange to live in a world where you never doubted the existence of your god. Throughout human history, various tribes have gone into battle believing that their god was on their side...but what if it really were -- and in a tangible form? Enter Demigod , a genre-bending title where you play a
Haha you don't like me because I don't like DotA.
No. I didn't say I don't like you. I said I lost respect to you. Because you are trolling about DotA, and because you are discrediting me, when I have always answered you with logical arguments, except this time ofcourse. I would loose respect if you praised DotA everywhere too. More of why not WASD: Do I really have to loose my orientation to just turn my hero around? Playing a bit like this feels like the
It's 3 am here, and I can think that HOLD button and RELEASE button is easier to handle than spamming clicks to move around. edit: and there's this little thing called "pathfinding" most devs cba with if it's not a strategy game. If you took 3 seconds and thought about it, maybe you'd realise that's the reason you see other players running till they reach a wall and keep running against it when they are lagging. I can't be arsed arguing with you anymore. Superior? It's
Well that delay is going to be there whether you WASD or click, then.so.. I don't see your point, really.I see your point in that it is an RTS engine so adding good WASD movement COULD be more difficult, and it is the only valid argument anyone has made against it.The other posts not in favor are just people not knowing what this game is. :/
Look, mate, WASD is there in most MMOs, because it's easier to send the signals to the server. You apparently don't have the game ex
I am always calm. Always see reason in things, especially ideas and suggestions. But... ...NO. I won't take this crap. Not for this type of game. UGH I can't even think about it. How could YOU think about it. Diablo III is not going to be WASD NOT because of tradition, but because it's a bird's eye view game. Even if it weren't it damn right wouldn't be WASD. All bird's eye view games == All classic RPGs are point and cli
I was merely pointing out the evolution of the word. In any case, in the gaming community, calling someone gay is an insult.
Odit is right you know, and what he said doesn't mean that he himself uses the word.
What button is autoscreenshot in cod4, that saves i n the screenshots folder? Is it screenshot, or f12 or something?I have gotten more than 100 kills and 5 deaths on shipment a few times but sadly no screenshot.
Download FRAPS, all benchmark/showoff gamers like me have it to measure their fps, it can also record video and take screenies.
Warcraft has also been accumulating said lore for nearly 15 years (most of it only having been released in the WC3-WoW period).
I can't deny that, maybe it was a poor example. But that's the taste DS left to me, a 15 year old, 6 years ago. That is, that things weren't binding together 100%, but were there just for the sake of progress throughout the game. In all other aspects, DS was a 10, don't get me wrong.
Well guys, for me, 1 year of free updates translates to expansion coming feb 2010. Micro-transactions such as 2 heroes for 10 bucks translates to sucking off your player-base money. I'd still buy it though if the game lives up to my expectations. Sometimes though, GPG did less than they could. I mean, what would they loose if they put some depth to DS series lore? Check out the warcraft series, they are RTS, don't need as much lore, yet the games start 10k years after a series of events!
Yeah but it's a dumb learning curve. Learning how to play a class involves playing it.
No, it's worse! Learning to counter, or even damage effectively another hero involves having already played that specific hero ;) And the funny part to those not familiar? There are 91 heroes! :D PS: My bad about the wikipedia thing, I tried to link and the first sentence was like: A noob is a newbie in a game, and I said f^*% it. It continues to discriminate between th
the talk of these veteran DoTa players is.....sickening to say the least
Are you talking to me? a n00b/noob is NOT a newbie. a noob is someone who does not give a crap about learning the game, but keeps whining about how hard it is constantly. Don't give me wikipedia links because I will get annoyed. Go to any game's hardcore community and ask for the difference between noob and newbie. eg. A noob is someone who will run up to a stronger hero, get killed,
How is an item that gives +10 str any different than one that gives +200 life, +10 damage, +10 health regen? It's NOT.
Well +10 str gives 190 life and less regen :P Seriously though, it is different, but only when a hero has an ability that depends on his current str/int/agi. Damn we need to know more about Demigod! And my damned pre-order didn't work, I'm waiting for an e-mail :( PS: amazing how the smileys are messed up, instead of a unhappy "( :
Still, just having an "upgrade item" button or something, or a "blacksmith" that you go to upgrade them for a higher cost would be better, more intuitive, and requiring less learning than item combination's.
Ya I agree, sexy idea! /waves @ Demigod devs As for Defense of the Ancients I don't think it's possible, just go check the forums, and see how many good ideas are getting turned down because "the map editor is not powerful enough" or "the engine does not support it" :S
So? Make it so you can sell your old items back then.Or make it so you can pay to upgrade the single item, not combine. Also, if you ask me, there should be dimensioning returns, not the opposite. In DotA, an item that costs twice as much is more like 150% better, not 100% better.(The items you combine become one item that is better than all the items combined for the same money)An item that costs 100% more should be more like 75% better. Snowballing effect = BAD.
I'm quit
Second point. Warcraft Three was a break from Blizzard tradition (that is, the tradition of making blockbuster Real-Time-Strategy games, or RTS' for those who forget what it stands for, which is a HUGE part of this point). This break is the fact that Warcraft Three is a RPS - Role Playing Strategy [...]
-WyvernRyder No, no, and no. Just because the rules are different (upkeeps) doesn't mean the genre changes. The hero is linking to RPGs. Yes. But is the game real time
Yeah but still the whining is annoying. It's good for the game to be accessible. That means the new players know you win because you're simply good, and don't accuse you or using some exploit. A good sniper is good in TF2 because he has good aim and shoots people in the head, not because he knows there is some hidden mechanic in the game where if you shoot someone in the left leg you instantly kill them at a low charge level. And it makes the learning curve less harsh so people are less l
Yes, Odit, but don't forget that Demigod's pathfinding is 2008 code, while DotA's is modified War3, 2002 (it's been fixed though, latest versions, hasn't it?) Creepblocking will hardly be a problem if the Generals can't mass their units and block or possible ways out. It all goes down to the beta, which I won't have the chance to test because I'm getting my gaming PC in october, and I'm stuck with a very lousy laptop (pimped up with linux though ;) )
@OP: Look mate, if you have yourself an onboard Intel 945G or some geforce 8600GS and below, and expect to run games, then PLEASE, go learn a thing or two and come back. Today's mid end graphics cards are 100x more powerful than your average onboard chip. You can't expect a 2008 game to run buttery smooth on your craptop. The game gets easily 15-20 fps on my old athlon 3000+ geforce 7800gt which I bought for 700 euros total including screen 3 years ago, all settings high. It st
I always thought of the Generals as semi-support demigods, and all the spells you described could as well be used by a General.
Let me explain a bit further. innociv, Shadowgandor: Concerning dota: If two players decide to farm early game, which they have to, to begin with (who can jungle or heroekill at lvl1?) they must keep going until one of them is strong(lvl wise) enough to be able to harass/kill without having the downside of getting destroyed himself - may I remind you that creeps automatically attack enemy players who are attacking allied heroes, and keep attacking the heroes until they are furth
I would go with: The Blood Drenched Count
One of the main reasons DotA succeeded (please do not flame answering Demigod is not DotA) is because of the "tidy" gameplay. A Nash Equilibrium is a state where in a competitive game between two players using the same tactic (let's say, tactic A) do not benefit themselves or the other player by switching to any other tactic, besides tactic A. This is -unwillingly or not- achieved in multiple aspects in DotA. (It does not only app
