Yes Demigod is fine in it's own rights and as a "casual" game or for those people who are not DoTA players but for me personally, once you began as a seasoned DoTA player, your view on Demigod can never as high as yours is.
Yeah, this statement sums up my concerns...they've intentionally placed themselves in comparison to DotA (even if they hadn't, it's a pretty obvious comparison).
I've got Dawn of War 2 which disappointed. I've got Empire Total War which is a great game but still isn't as fun as Demigod. I play an even split of strategy games and action games. There isn't much "depth" to Left4Dead or TF2 but I love them all the same. Demigod has the fun factory of a L4D/TF2 and the depth of a DOW2. That combination makes Demigod a very likely classic. But I agree with the OP, the
Starcraft 2 is coming out in early 2010 most likely...low likelihood of either late 2009 or mid 2010. Absolutely not later than that (they're close to Beta testing at this point, which will probably only last a few months to half a year). The relative proximity of Diablo 3 (coming in the next couple of years) needn't even be discussed in detail. If anybody can think of any other big RTS titles coming soon, I'd love to hear about them. :) Only one I know of
DalzK" reply="13" id="2097624"] Lots of people have mentioned that Demigod has a very low skill-ceiling. However, if its so low, why is there such a clear distinction between bad and good players. If its so easy to master, surely you would find more good players within the population of DG. When organised 2v2/3v3's are played, all with good players and vent, thats when the skill-ceiling really shoots up imo and teamwork/timing/skill/knowledge all come in
DalzK" reply="11" id="2097246"] Demigod is a casual game. One that involves basic, easy to learn/easy to master gameplay. You may be over expecting a competitive community for this game. When the hell was it decided that Demigod was going to be a "casual" game? If that was the case I would not have thought about buying it. I always thought this whole game was aimed at the online competitive community - and the single player was for the casuals.
Yeah, this better be a VERY beta version of the online client, because it really offers very little (friends list just being one major thing that's missing). The fact that it's really tough to play a complete game (with the prevalance of "disconnects") doesn't help either. I think you're exaggerating by saying it's such an amazing game minus the issues, though. If it were possible to consistently play low-lag to lagless multiplayer gam
Well, if we wont have a competitive community in this game what else you think we will have? Isnt that the point of this game? Competitive online community ftw. Nice to see someone is thinking ahead and and steps up to create a clan, either it fails or suceeds. Congrats and wish you many luck.
I'm wishing for a competitive community to evolve, but like Evanescent says...might be a little bit too optimistic.&n
If there's no lag, you're playing with bots. Bank on it. If you're still not sure, talk in chat. If nobody responds, you can be confident that nobody's really there to listen.
No offense but you do realize it's always the same handful of guys always making complaints about theoretical problems in the game but have very few minutes logged into actually playing. (I'm not referring to Fire-Irce) Anyone who's seriously tried a mass Regulus or mass whatever and knows what they're doing is going to tell you that it's a lot less effective than say a team that combines Torch Bearer, Unclean Beast, The Rook, and QoT.<b
Just as a kind of suggestion; I think the strategy is pretty tight as it stands. It could be better, but I think time is better spent largely on other things. I think you should wait for a large update (after the release) to make more changes, not only to get more player feedback, but also to give yourselves time to reflect and simply observe. Right now you've got a narrow bandwidth of feedback. Also in adjuct with that comment, I t
Full team, coordinated regulus snipe spiking is silly. It's things like that that caused DotA to limit each hero to 1 in a game. It's actually alot harder than it sounds - they nerfed snipe to the point where a coordinated 5 max snipe spike still does less than 4k damage. It's survivable, now, and against a snipe team I'd rather be on a mixed team which includes Rook and UB, a good careful TB, and Sedna. A maxed Angelic Fury t
Unless they've drastically improved connectivity and significantly lessened the prevalence of disconnects, I can't see how you could possibly be having so much fun. Heres to hoping! If this game won't be all that competitive, I'm confident that it can at least be pretty fun. Need to be able to consistently play a full game with other people without lots of lag before that's possible, though.
Demigod, as far as I have seen so far, lacks the competitive depth required for a competition such as WCG. This is unfortunate, seeing as it was supposedly conceived as a competitive game.
Ceiling? I'm not sure you could call it that. How about....skill coffee table? I say this with the consideration that knowledge of game mechanics and items doesn't really constitute "skill," as it's something you don't need to practice and that anybody can develop equally.
I'll put it this way: If you play a game and there's no lag at all, it's extremely unlikely that there are any humans besides yourself playing.
Yea, with the LAN version there's no specific checking. Here's what you would want to do for a LAN game: You'll download Demigod from Impulse when it ships. You'll have a directory like \program files\stardock games\demigod. You would copy that onto a USB stick or whatever and then put it on the other machines on your LAN. When they load up the game, they'll need to enter in the email address associated wi
I'm fine with no +Rep (karma) being working at the moment. The developers should notice and decide which participants to include in their final testing phase. It should not be based on the opinion of individual posters giving each other karma points. The quality of a test can't really be quantified; plus, as others have said, most posters forget to give karma points to good posters anyway.
You just answered with exactly what I said... you basically must do the frost nova -> rain of ice -> deep freeze combo... otherwise you will not be a threat to anyone, or kill anything (as Ice TB). Ergo 'one trick pony', the only difficulty in the whole thing is getting people close enough to you so you can pull it off. That changes in team play however when Ice TB and Rook team up for some sweet hammer slam and stun co
Shatter makes Ice TB a one trick pony.... I can't see how it is a great thing
He's much less a one trick pony than other Demigods. You use 3 skills in succession and get bonus damage for timing it right. That's not terribly complex and could still be better, but I think it's a lot better than just having 2-3 useful active skills that are each applicable to a few different situations and work the same no
Hmmm, I'm a bit torn. It's a cool mechanic that I'd like to see more, but at the same time, I like that it's somewhat unique.
I agree, other mechanics shouldn't be exactly the same. My point is, we need more like this. The timing and order of skills that a player uses ought to have a larger effect on their success. Reward players for knowing how to get the most out of their skills.<
Shatter Mechanic Grade: A- Combat would be a lot more interesting if more Demigods had skills that combo'd together the way the Ice-TB skills do. I almost feel like skill and timing make a difference when I play as TB now. It's not perfect...I mean, it's not much more than "use skill A / skill B in succession then hit skill C for bonus damage" but it's still a lot more interesting than the other skill sets.
This has happened to me a few times and it's really annoying: I click on a game in the game listing and I click join, and it turns out the game needs a password to join. So I click cancel, and then after the password enter box goes away, the "joining game" box comes up (not the newer one - the one that used to come up before Beta 3), and the box doesn't go away. There's no way to get rid of it, either. Need to alt+esc out (as far as I know).
BTW I'm not stating this one way or the other as a bad or good thing. I'm on the fence. It's very comical sounding, but I don't necessarily mind that. The game doesn't really have enough of a backstory or firm context / setting for the seriousness of the "characters" to matter.
