Perhaps a friend invite wouldn't be such a bad idea..maybe 1 invite per pre-order beta user. Would be a good way to convince a friend to maybe buy it in the future.
I think this is actually a really good compromise. Nice idea. One invite is perhaps a bit draconic though. Personally I know that with my kind of friends I'd need to send out at least a few invite to hopefully get one person who is a dedi
Honestly, most people who joined an open beta at this point would download it, try to play online for 30 minutes and then uninstall. I also strongly disagree that you can't get good feedback from the current testers, just because we bought the game based on a description. Buying a product is not the same as being happy with it. The game is simply not ready for open beta. Netcode needs to be 99.5%, not ~50% chance to connect, 50% chance t
Sedna (aka cat girl) is perhaps too strong as well. Her regen aura allows her to do some pretty crazy things, and she gets a fast, pretty nasty army going. Thankfully she's not impossible to kill. But the Rook is just silly. His attacks allow him to kill a Demigod at a similar level with 75% health in an instant. That happened to me in a game I played yesterday and I just said "forget this."
The game is simply not ready for open beta. .
I didn't say Open Beta. I agree, it's not ready for that. But we could use more people from different backgrounds, not just preorders. What I'm saying (and perhaps it is too late at this point, I don't really know) is that giving people the chance to sign up for the beta and then sending out controlled numbers of Beta Keys (like

You end up having a core of people that are invested in making the game better. It limits the amount of less useful feedback from people that don't know the game style adn may not really care. I think it also reinforces the fact that this is not a demo. It's a beta. In your post above you mentioned he
Rook is definitely the worst. I haven't dealt too much with Regulus recently, but Rook simply ruins games for me.
I still idols are a bad mechanic in general...
I agree. It seems like a sort of lazy way to give Generals units to command. However, it's what we have to work with, and I think the Idol mechanic has enough room to work with that it could become pretty interesting. At the moment though, it's pretty bland.
This game is technically based around a "hero", but that hero is not much more complicated than a super unit in an RTS game. It just happens to level up and get stronger as the game goes on. It didn't take years to define what an RTS is. Real Time Strategy. It's a strategy game that happens in real time instead of being turn based. Not much more to it than that. Yes, the genre has come a long way since the original RTS, but that doesn't mea
In response to the OP's question: Right now, DotA is better. However, it's been around for a lot longer, so it's only natural that it would be. Can Demigod live up to or surpass it's spiritual predecessor / inspiration? Time will tell.
This game feels far more like an RTS than an RPG or any "hero based game." The game is based, more than anything, on map control. Hero combat is a ) not particularly involved (not anywhere close to a MMO or a RPG) and b ) not super important for the outcome of the game. The biggest thing in the game is capturing flags and pushing towers. Map control. That's an RTS element. The only thing really missing is different strategies / build orders / counte
Generals could use a bit more differentiation. My ideas are as follows: 1) Idol summons should be specific to generals. I.E. Only sedna can summon Priests and only Queen of Thorns can summon Minotaur Beserkers. Maybe there could be a few idol summons that are the same for all i.e. siege archers and minotaurs, but each general gets a couple idol summons that give them a unique advantage. or 2) Generals get more abilities (such as auras
I think her regeneration perhaps makes her a bit too strong at pushing lanes. Once she has an army up and decent regen she can all-out attack towers, get to low health, and then get back up again in 10-15 seconds and then push again. Not to mention the speed issue. I think her minions need to be made weaker (to make up for the fact that they get boosted significantly by her auras) or she needs to be capped at 4-5 yetis instead of 8.
We need more people. We need more feedback, we need more people playing the game, and we need different perspectives. You can't expect to get a broad, reliable spectrum of gameplay analysis and feedback from people who are (obviously) already going to buy the game. You need to get feedback from people who are on the fence, from the subset of potential players who are not as inclined to go for Demigod right away. You can't expect to get a lot of useful feedback from p
ARTS (Action RTS) it's simple, and it works well because ARTS is to RTS as Action RPG is to RPG. More action, quicker, simpler, etc.
Different for the sake of different is not good. Different because there is a good reason to be different may be good if implemented properly. Similar but tried and true may not be different, but it can be very good because it builds on established methods and principles. Please, don't defend any aspect of Demigod simply because it is different. I'm not saying Demigod ought to less original. My point is simply that any aspect
This game's BIGGEST influence is DotA, and despite all the hate DotA gets, DotA has practically a perfect gameplay formula for its type. Because DotA is virtually the only other game with similar gameplay, it's the only thing we have to compare, and it'd be idiotic not to learn things from it.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, to all you "DotA haters": This game's success will be measured by how effectively
I hear ya. On the few occasions I've been able to actually connect to people, I feel lucky if there are enough people online to actually join the game. Between there not being a lot of people testing this game and the connection being unreliable (and the seemingly inevitable desync) it's a miracle to play a complete multiplayer game.
Now wait a second, you're all talking as if this is a bad thing. I, personally, think it's great. The fact that Demigod is really a whole new genre, it's amazing. It just bug bugs me about how they keep saying it's an RTS, which it's not.
Hey, look, genre bending is fine. There are plenty of games that try to be creative with genre lines, and end up being quite interesting because of it. However,
Thread title: Wow! What flawless logic! If everybody likes it, it must be overpowered!
I'm inclined to agree about the skills, however, I think the more important thing to note about skills currently is that they don't really...well...take that much skill to use. Most of them are very straightforward. Target enemy, do damage. Summon minions. Hurt enemy tower. Take passive ability. We need more skills that require more precision, skills that you will be able to use more effectively with practice. Each Demigod could hav
At the moment this game is not as complicated or as interesting as either an RPG or an RTS. It has potential, but it's genre bending at the expense of being a bit bland. You can't really call it an RTS due to lack of strategic depth and micro but you can't really call it an RPG because of shallow character building and no real storyline in gameplay (you don't do quests and there aren't any persistent characters with real personality etc).
I'd prefer if the game weren't "relaxing" per se. Playing this game seriously should be intense, otherwise it's not exciting or competitive. On the other hand, a really good player should be able to beat two others. I'm on the fence about Warscore. It's a little too automatic for my tastes. Seems almost like an artificial solution to game length problems.
