I have this "nil value" problem as well, but there are more problems, like not being able to do the campaign (beyond the tutorial), and not being able to save games. It's like nothing with the profiles works (I have to re-enter my profile name every time I start the game. I'm on windows 7 64-bit, and I installed the game into C:\Games\
