I also suffer from this issue. Have uninstalled MM for the moment. The issue only seems to affect closing a window from the jump-list style context menu, and not from the titlebar button, nor the shift-right-click style menu. It does not hang the system but does sound the tone and wait for about a second before actually closing the window. Suggestions in Launch Stardock Forums

It also seems to ignore custom icons on some shortcuts. I have a shortcut to a web app I use however it displays the chrome icon instead of my custom icon selected for the shortcut. I'm guessing this is an initial bug of sorts.

I already did an sfc run. Not 100% sure what did it, but things seem to be back to normal now. Not sure if it just needed an extra restart or something but all is good now. I wish I could isolate the specific solution to help others in the future but somehow a combination of all suggestions above and a fair few restarts managed to fix things. Thanks for your help guys.

Unfortunately your instructions did not resolve the issue. I noticed that under "Icons & Cursors" -> "Folders" the icons for "Live Folder (Back)", "Live Folder (Front)", and "Live Folder (Data)" (along with a few others, were blank. I tried Restoring default icon but they did not change. I then went to manually change them and was presented with the correct icon already selected. This allowed me to restore them in this section, however they are still displaying incorrectly in explorer.

I recently gave IconPackager a whirl. When I decided to go back to defaults and remove the program all seemed fine. I selected the default Windows icon set and uninstalled the program. I've now found though that Live Folders are still using the icon set I had previously selected, and so are a few special folders here and there (such as recent places). Does anyone know a way to fix this?

Microsoft are happily living in ignorance. They managed to convince themselves that people only ever use maximised windows so they only need full-screen apps. They also convinced themselves that because Windows 8 currently offers more multi-tasking potential than iOS that's all they need to worry about. It's as if they forgot they're developing a desktop OS. Even with Blue you'll only get 1-4 modern apps at once (in a vertical split). Gone are the days of "windows" officially.

Can't thank you guys enough. This is what I've been after for so long, and I think it'll help the development of metro apps and the WinRT platform by letting desktop users do away with the pathetic window management (that is in fact far inferior to that offered in Windows 1) when using, what can be, perfectly decent and attractive applications. Thank you Stardock- you never disappoint!

I love that you've added the option for custom locations in the places pane (right pane). What I have noticed that seems missing from this is the ability to add Libraries (or even the Libraries folder itself) to this menu (ideally as an expanding item). I know it must be possible as I've seen it implemented in other competing products (e.g. Start Menu X, RetroUI). I'd love to be able to have access to my custom libraries directly from the start menu.

You guys are moving towards making an awesome little suite of customisation applications for Windows 8 however one of the cornerstone customisation applications for my Windows 8 setups is OblyTile- it creates custom tiles for the Windows 8 Start Screen linking to whatever application you chose. Just an idea. Given that this is a new start menu implementation perhaps we could build on Microsoft's concept. I'd love to be able to add custom links / folders in the right pane, ideally with the option to re-order them all. I use a few custom libraries and would love for them to appear alongside the predefined ones. Also I'm sure other people would have a great use for such an option- adding DropBox or other similar folders to the places panel. That said

Yeah that is likely- while I do have my local directories indexed my libraries do contain network locations and may be being searched resulting in the delay. Allowing it to execute provided at least one result is found would be great though :-)

I've not disabled indexing- although I have been noticing that it's not responding to the return key press until it's searched and populated the file/folder results. Could the return key not be picked up before the search is complete? I don't always want or need a full file/folder search to run a quickly found indexed shortcut.

On further testing it seems that it does run commands with return, however after a substantial delay of around 10 seconds. Anyone else have this problem?

I'm not sure if this is a known issue or just my system- but I'm finding that whenever I search using the Start8 search box, using return to launch the first result doesn't work- I seem to have to click it instead.

I'm almost certain that the Win7 Start menu was translucent. Granted you could disable transparency across the OS which may explain why yours wasn't. I personally like the translucent appearance, however this application is screaming out for customisation abilities. I'm sure it'll be fully skinable in due time- after all it' Stardock! :D

Auto-hiding taskbar + WinKey? in Start8 Stardock Forums

Loving the program. I honestly love Metro on my tablet but on my desktop it just gets in the way. This is awesome, however I've noticed that when I set my taskbar to auto-hide (as I usually do) and attempt to launch the start8 menu using the Win Key I am greeted with only the user image at the top of the menu and not the menu itself. This is resolved when I disable auto-hiding or when I focus the taskbar (with a left click) before using the Win Key to launch the menu.
